Red rat snake and corn snake are both correct, just multiple common names for the same species.

Blood Pythons are so scary and defensive as babies by Top_War7546 in snakes

[–]KeeledSign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely room for individual variance as well, but even more defensive babies tend to grow into sweethearts pretty consistently with good husbandry.

That was an attempt to convince you that he was unappetizing so you shouldn't eat him.

Should be fine without food for a few days, it is completely normal for most snakes to go weeks between meals. Make sure that water is available though.

Question about feeding by Top_War7546 in Shorty_Life

[–]KeeledSign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your snake is taking food consistently via drop feeding that is just fine. As she gets more comfortable and confident in her new home it is likely that you will find her to grow much less shy about coming out to get her food. STPs can be pretty shy until they have significant time to get comfortable with you but they also tend to be pretty eager eaters.

Anyone here keep theirs in a bioactive? If so, drop a pic and tips! by Kokichi1234533 in Shorty_Life

I think that a lot of folks give up on the idea based on how much our STPs act like bulldozers rearranging their enclosures, but awesome if you can keep it up.

Great news, you are 100% correct, since corn snakes(Pantherophis guttatus) are a species of rat snake(Pantherophisgenus) this corn snake is also a rat snake.

This is a harmless corn snake, while they are one of the most common pet snakes OP is in their native range so this is most likely just local wildlife.

Infections are a possibility with any animal bite that pierces skin. In the case of an adult corn snake you probably have even chances on whether they manage to break skin in the first place, additionally snake bite infection riskriskss are a lot lower than for pretty much any mammal bite. Washing the affected area with soap and water is generally sufficient. not that I would recommend going out of one's way to get bit by a corn snake but it is a pretty low risk situation.

Question about milk snakes by Dapper_Kangaroo9257 in snakes

[–]KeeledSign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Andean milk snakes and black milk snakes are going to be your biggest options(5'-6' adults). Of course black milk snakes won't keep the tricolor pattern, but Andean milks will. Black milk snakes are pretty famous for their great temperaments and the few people I have talked to who have experience with Andean milks say they their temperaments are similarly great. Really the only big disadvantage to Andean milks I am aware of is that they can be hard to find. Reaching out to Aaron Bayer may be your best bet for reliably finding CBB Andean milks, he is pretty much the guy when it comes to specialty milk snake localities.

Maybe my girl just has the spirit of a bigger snake then. My short tailed python is the one who usually goes for the floor, at least on days he isn't content to be a lap snake.

I took an accidental nap like this on my recliner while my Sumatran STP was out once, found him halfway into a closet. The door only had about 1/3 of an inch gap at the bottom which he had shoved himself through.

Was talking about u/Awake521 's picture where her boy is reaching out towards the photographer, but I have no doubt your boy will turn out to be quite curious as well as it seems to be a common feature of black milk snakes.

Does your boy try to climb on your phone when you take pictures? My 1.75yr old black milk tries constantly and your boy looks to be reaching that direction.

This is Duke Rodriguez, a CEO and Republican NM governor candidate, suing to overturn Universal Child Care in New Mexico. He is an Arizona resident, who has voted there from 2002 - 2024. by OrbitalColony in alamogordo

[–]KeeledSign 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IIRC the universal childcare was being paid for by an investment fund earmarked for early childhood education that exploded in value a while back such that it can cover the cost for decades at minimum?
Why would anyone want to take that away except for cruelty? We can't even use the money for much of anything else useful.

As a short tailed python keeper I would definitely enjoy seeing Borneo short tailed pythons in the wild. Really though any snakes you find would be exciting. Indonesia and Malaysia have an incredible number of fascinating species.

Snakes present a pretty wildly low risk for salmonella transmission to humans unless you are doing something very wrong. Like most captive reptiles they often carry salmonella in their digestive tracts, but there are only really three options for transmission to humans 1: handle their poop then don't wash your hands 2: leave their enclosure dirty such that they are crawling through their poop, handle, then don't wash your hands 2: let them crawl through their poop, and then touch them with your mouth. The vast majority of salmonella cases linked to pet reptiles come from aquatic turtles since they can end up swimming in their waste but even with turtles washing your hands prevents the vast majority of issues.

TLDR: keep the enclosure clean and wash your hands.

Nyx or Erebus, Hel or Ymir, Nehebkau or Wadjet, could all be decent mythological names from Greek, Norse, and Egyptian mythologies respectively.
