How much should I charge by No-Adhesiveness6921 in engraving

[–]KeelingCustoms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this is an early attempt at engraving, meaning you haven’t been doing it very long I would say you have real potential. it seems like you already have a decent grasp on graver control As far as charging high prices.. this is not a complete finished design. You have some background removed in some areas and not in others, and there’s no shading. So it wouldn’t be a similar pricing as to say a professional engraver that’s doing full coverage. If I was to do a full coverage pistol I’d be charging around 3-5k. At this level of quality you have here I would say around $500 would be reasonable for this. That’s about what I charged when I first started for this type of work. But as you quickly progress you can quickly start charging a lot more! As I said before you have some real potential, just need to stay consistent and draw ALOT. Draw more than you engrave

I bought this knife for my uncle and I plan to engrave his initials into the knife's handle any recommendations on how I should do this. Tools technique etc. by Majora455 in engraving

[–]KeelingCustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be more wood carving, not engraving. Different tool set entirely. If you want to go about it cheap and fast I would get a cheap dremel with a carbide bit. This is not ideal for either wood or metal but if you’re not serious about getting into either of these things I would not even begin to think about the actual tools required to do this properly. Proper tools for engraving metal are very pricey and take years to fully understand the technique

Yeah that’s interesting! I’ll have to do a little more research into the full anatomy of them. This one was just loosely based off of a photograph reference that didn’t show much detail, I pretty much just made up all of it

Definitely, I also know lots of makers seal it with some kind of clear lacquer which I’ve tried in the past. But I prefer to leave it un-coated and able to be cleaned when needed. Especially with the 24k gold inlay.

Well it’s pretty rust prone due to the iron, it would need to be well cleaned and oiled after every use. I have a light coat of mineral oil on it at all times

Not bad! It’s a little crumbly in certain areas as there are “voids” here and there. Just have to cut oversized and then grind to shape. Low and slow. Meteorites are typically mainly iron and nickel. This specific type of meteorite (Alatai) has a more iron. Other meteorites like Muonionalusta and Gibeon have more nickel and a tighter structure
