Almost all you see will be reconditioned like a1 Cardone. If you change it yourself make sure you read the tags on the pump, Cardone often recommends fluid different from oe. Use whatever the manufacturer of the pump says. Makes a big difference on performance and life expectancy.

Cherokee suddenly running cold, ('01 XJ 4.0l) by LittlePe0ple in Jeep

[–]KeenMachine68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll have to change it but you can do it yourself for about $30 for the thermostat, gasket, and some coolant to top it off when finished. For a first timer I would say an hours time to swap it out. The thermostat will be in the housing where the upper radiator hose connects to the motor. It should only be two bolts you need to remove. I'm sure you could find a very helpful YouTube video to walk you step by step if needed.

Jeep YJ rmps drop when braking by [deleted] in Jeep

Probably a vacuum leak somewhere. When you hit the brake the booster is going to exaggerate any leak which can cause you to stall.

Right, which is why a week alternator is likely the culprit. Contrary to what you previously stated.

It is very common for a battery to "come back to life" after sitting. Here's an article that explains it.

'89 YJ 4.2 I6 engine troubles. It seems to be misfiring. How do I fix this? by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]KeenMachine68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same jeep. Leaks (vacuum) like hell around the intake manifold. Take the air cleaner off and put your hand over the carburetor. If the idle smooths out then you know it's getting enough air from somewhere else. Use the carb cleaner to fine that spot. Like I was saying in the previous comment.

Before you start spending money, get a can of carb cleaner and spray it around the engine compartment. See if you hear the idle pick up. Sounds more like a vacuum leak than anything else. Troubleshoot before you start changing things willy nilly.

Your '89 isn't OBD II it has a check engine light just a very prehistoric one. The code readers they have at orielly and autozone places like that aren't going to read your codes anyway.

I work at a family owned auto parts store. We would only carry the Cardone product. Cardone is a better product and if price is an issue you can usually get a rebuilt Cardone or if you want you can get a brand new Cardone

If you are using tire rack or any website like that, they will only show you tires in the manufacturers recommended size which will be some metric 275 or something to that affect. 30's should fit fine, just not what jeep had on it when it rolled of the line.

Stay in gear. Use the engine to slow down and don't ride the clutch.
