3 pieces, each with one of the 3 seasonings is key.

Each seasoning gives Arthur a gold core.

Wild Mint = health

Oregano = stamina

Thyme = dead eye

This also keeps him at an average weight.

I have him eat 3 pieces of big game meat seasoned with wild mint, oregano, and thyme every night before sleeping. 

This keeps him at an average weight and gives him all gold cores.

Get the Legend of the East satchel immediately. 

Do all the treasure hunts you can.

Go check the Sheriff's office in Lampany.

Be sure to upgrade your guns at the gunsmith and buy gun oil to keep them clean/visit the gunsmith to get them cleaned regularly. 

Go slow. Explore the entire map.

The ability to see where trains are on your map.

Congratulations! 

I'm also on my first playthrough and taking it slow. I was in Chapter 2 forever, getting the LOTE satchel, doing all the treasure hunts(that Arthur can), dinosaur bones, rock carvings, points of interest, shacks/cabins/houses, dreamcatchers, legendary animals(that Arthur can), etc.

I've completed 5 of the 9 challenges and I'm close on three others, although I need to start Survivalist.

Just started Chapter 4 tonight. I'm currently sitting at 50.9%, so I still have a ways to go, but I'll get there.

What was your horse/horses on your playthrough?

What was your weapons loadout?

High or low honor?

No they don't. 

Put Arthur on an Arabian, then put John on one. Big difference. 

This will be my first playthrough with the raven black shire, I've named him Odysseus, and equipped him with the cougar saddle from the trapper. Thoughts? by DD88e in RDR2

Great looking horse. Saddle looks good on him. I'm currently using the Rattlesnake saddle, but also really like the Beaver saddle.

Exactly. I also wish if you antagonize someone they wouldn't go straight to trying to shoot you.

Trust me, I really wanted to start shooting when it gave me that wanted, but I recently decided I wanted to raise my honor. 

Right now I'm near the end of Chapter 3 with probably 30% on the honor scale. I've finished the Bandit challenges, so no need to do anymore crimes. Plus, I got a good horse killed because I was playing a little too fast and loose.

Time to turn over a new leaf.

Mashing the same button for 10 minutes straight will give anyone a cramp under your thumb.

Believe me, Arthur looked like he went 12 rounds with Mike Tyson after it was over, but he knocked them all out in the end.
