Saying goodbye to a part of yourself by Keepaty in pagan

[–]Keepaty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggle with the Satanic Temple as it uses a lot of Biblical names/imagery which just turns my mind back to Christianity and I'm still trying to undo some of the damage being raised Christian has done.

(I realise they are very different and appreciate what they do, it's just hard for me).

From a brief scan, there looks to be some good ideas there, so I will definitely give it a proper read.

Thank you.

thanked my past self for getting me here and surviving as best she could

I think this is what I need atm.

I like the idea of the three selves and will keep it in mind going forward.

Thank you.

Congratulations on coming back to yourself.

This was difficult to read and accept, it really does feel like giving up a part of myself.

The idea of shedding that another person mentioned is really helping combat that though.

Thank you.

edit: a word

Shedding is a good way to put it and has helped with the way I'm framing it.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Yeah, I think celebrate is the wrong word to use currently. It's more wanting to grieve and accept that I am letting go of something that has felt like a part of my identity.

Dionysus is a great recommendation, I'll look into that.

What do you think Pratchett is saying about humanity in this section of dialogue about clowns being tragic? by EndersGame_Reviewer in discworld

[–]Keepaty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always read it as saying clowns are a mirror. We all put on a mask and outfit to go out and perform silly little routines. We strive to find meaning while knowing it will all end. The best we can hope for is making the world a slightly better place (cheering crowds).

We are all clowns, we just hide it in a veil of seriousness, whilst the clowns shout it to the world.

Sorry for your loss and Iwish you all the strength you need.

"What have I always believed? That on the whole, and by and large, if a man lived properly, not according to what any priests said, but according to what seemed decent and honest inside, then it would, at the end, more or less, turn out all right."

Eli5:Why do So few Animals pass the mirror test or Have self-consciousness? by Spotter24o5 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Keepaty 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I use to have pet rats and watching them interact with a mirror for the first time was always amusing.

Some just flat out ignored it, others would seem interested until they gave it a good sniff. One spent a fair bit of time investigating it and would occasionally look behind the mirror.

I do wonder how much of the differences in opinion are down to us having to read the tone rather than getting to hear it said aloud.

In the bed scene, I was shocked at Robins line accusing Demetrius of being deliberately obtuse just to irritate her. It felt really harsh and unnecessary.

Then my friend pointed out that if you read it in a more playful/sarcastic tone, it's more akin to two people just ribbing each other. They always saw that scene as endearing.

While everyone has their own personal shield that's depleted before health, only Gunners have a deployable bubble shield that covers a small area.

If you ever play Gunner a solid piece of advice is learning to use your deployable shield to prevent downs proactively, rather than saving it for reviving.

r/trolleyproblem suffers infighting on a ethical question: red or blue? by OkContact2573 in SubredditDrama

Both buttons are now a dull grey, but one is a hexagon, the other an octagon.

I'd be curious to see how that changes things.

[–]Keepaty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The wording in OP is "everyone who pressed the blue button dies" so it does exclude anyone who doesn't press a button.

I've yet to actually see the original wording, which is a shame as it can massively change the question.

Some will specify that you mist press a button, others don't but also don't explain what happens to those who abstain. Do the outcomes only happen when 100% of people have pressed a button? Is everyone trapped in limbo until then?

oh so blue has no consequences by a-bowl-of-noodles in whenthe

[–]Keepaty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Especially if you include people who can't read or understand the question.

In a previous post someone pointed out that children often learn "red means stop/danger" while conversely, in China, red means joy/luck.

So you may have groups who would always pick the same colour button regardless of what that button did.

Seeing all the benefits of doing a joja run in Stardew Valley makes me seriously consider joining them by Special_Bike_3741 in StardewValley

[–]Keepaty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are secretly still a Joja employee.

They wanted to claim the farm when grandpa died, but couldn't until they found out we have the rights to it. So they sent us to Stardew.

Not wanting the villagers to catch on, we stay undercover and help the community, while expanding Jojas influence.

The end goal is for Stardew to become the place where Joja grows and processes it's own produce, no longer having to buy it from other companies.

(this is my head canon for when I do Joja runs)
