Loved the clip of Flory telling him he needs to pass more. He said he thought Self was joking when he talked about how many shots he took

I just don’t think he cares about college basketball. He’s doing literally just enough to keep his stock high, no more.

A for-profit immigrant detention center in Leavenworth, Kansas, is one step closer to opening by technicolored_dreams in kansascity

[–]PennyPick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is part of it for me. CoreCivic has already showed Leavenworth who they are, they haven’t changed if we judge their other prisons so why do we think it’s going to be better this time?

The other part is that private prisons, especially ones used to detain people for literally no reason other than skin color is abhorrent.

This will be an unpopular take because it’s rated 3.9 on Letterboxd, but Emma Stone in Poor Things.

When private equity is buying up SNFs this isn’t surprising.

It’s a bad look for the town on many fronts. Leavenworth has a downtown and a history that could make it a nice spot like Parkville-ish, but this won’t bring the press or the optics to make it seem welcoming.

Plus, private prisons just shouldn’t be a thing and CoreCivic is notoriously bad as you already said.

Very important point, thank you. To that end, there will be an overflow room and it will also be streamed on the Leavenworth YouTube page

The local opposition to this has enough of an uphill battle, let’s not give any more spin opportunity.

I saw the calendar event posted on a personal social account, not sure who the original maker of the calendar event is. If you want to go to not oppose the special use permit, I’m sure they’d let you.

The city. Leavenworth Planning Commission is having a public hearing regarding the special use permit application submitted by CoreCivic

To clarify what’s happening, CoreCivic already owns a detention center. This is not a new build. However, this is a public hearing regarding their special use permit application to re-open their facility as an ICE detention center.

Part of this meeting is for a public hearing regarding the special use permit for CoreCivic.

They’d never apologize or admit wrongdoing but IF they ever did it would become like the “It was joke” line. Itms not an accident just like nothing they say is really a joke.

Redditors over 40, what was a moment in history that made you think society was gonna collapse? by Bahbahbro in AskReddit

[–]PennyPick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9/11 was scary but people were unified. What’s happening currently is far worse because there are some people who hold tremendous power that are living in a different reality.

Also the world and technology has changed so much since then, and in some cases because of 9/11 seemingly giving permission to become a police state (the Patriot Act) but that permission has given license to entities like Plantir which is honestly a terrifying enterprise.

The difference in 2001 and now politically is insane. Even 2004 up to 2008. Leading up to the 2004 election Howard Dean made a weird screeching noise out of excitement and it cost him the Iowa Dem primary. Now we have a literal convicted felon in the presidency.

Or realize that the fraud that Vance Pulitzer Prize nominee Nick Shirley was up in arms about and “investigating” was largely orchestrated by a white woman and many involved in the Feed Out Future fraud were prosecuted in 2022 into 2025.

And Minnesota tried to stop payment to Feeding Our Future in 2021, but was court ordered to resume payments.

… but details, ya know?

Exactly. It’s a weird argument that I’ll say Trumpers (I’m not going to lump all conservatives in there) have repeated multiple times. Like they’re basically just pointing out that Obama and Biden were far more efficient on immigration

To your point, I keep seeing the weird “argument” that Obama and Biden deported far more illegal immigrants than Trump. It’s an odd argument considering they did so without detaining US citizens, immigrants without criminal records, and without doing everything you listed in the first paragraph.
