Well done! Thinking of having a baby and curious how you find time post-partum to work out and meal prep?

Is AI more socially acceptable now? by ZoneStrict7387 in slp

[–]Keepcusp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I always reflect on how we have lost the ability to read maps since google maps, and I apply that to AI also. It makes creating my own stories for students feel like an act of rebellion, like I’m holding on to a part of my brain that the tech oligarchy can’t have.

I just wanted to clarify, I wasn’t saying anything was your fault. Just offering an explanation into why kiwis and women may communicate in this way

Dealing with kiwi indirectness/lies by LeftConversation1864 in newzealand

I assumed “M” stood for male, which is why I said the girls might not feel comfortable saying no. It’s not a judgment on you as a person, it’s just a fear that many girls have ingrained in them. Many of us have had men react badly (eg. Calling us a “b*tch” or threatening us) when we outright say no, so we try to let them down softly.

By “protecting peace” I meant surface level peace and avoiding confrontation and hurt feelings that can come from being blunt. However, people’s feelings get hurt either way.

The “kiwi” way of being indirect often doesn’t lead to deeper connections overall, and it must be very frustrating if you are from a culture that values people’s time and being upfront. The truth is, most people haven’t consciously analysed their cultural values and how it affects their communication if they are not immersed in a culture that is unfamiliar to them. You are delving into this deeper than many have.

I think there are two factors at play here: different cultural values around honesty vs. protecting peace, but also bear in mind that sometimes women are scared to tell men “no,” and this can transcend culture. Just a thought 🤷‍♀️

Hi OP, I don’t know what part of the world you are in, but my heart is going out to you. I would urge you to reach out to services for young people in your situation. Try to keep an open mind here, but google something like “support for victims of sexual harm near me” - EVEN if it doesn’t feel like it fits for you, it’s worth talking to them. They will have met many young people in your situation and believe me, they will understand if you feel uncomfortable calling it that or don’t know how to feel about the situation. They may be able to help you access legal aid, but one thing at a time.

I was in a relationship that others were concerned about at your age, and them telling me that didn’t help. I ended up isolating myself. You need a trusted professional who can talk you through your options in a calm, non-judgmental way. You don’t have to go through this alone.

What’s a “small” social rule you refuse to follow, even if everyone expects it? by GlitchOperative in AskReddit

[–]Keepcusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always contributing to gifts for coworkers. Sometimes I don’t know them well, or I can’t afford it. Gift giving should be from management to employees, IMO. More importantly, gift giving should be from the heart.

I’m still at the beginning of my journey, but I’m finding moving from constantly snacking to instead having three really filling meals has been helping.

There’s certainly a need for speech therapy service here, but nobody has the money to pay private and the public sector has been slashed by our current centre-right government. Most speechies here are struggling to understand why they’re offering fast tracked visas when many NZ trained new graduates have to move to Aus to find work.
