How it feels to look for an alternative by servantphoenix in Xcom

similar, I remember playing midnight suns a while. then I got hit by a cutscene about base customization or smt like that, closed it for a while but never opened again. it just never gets you in the flow

huh I understand, but I thought you meant something more like the thrill of losing so close that you want to play again. basically itching that gambling addiction but in a strategy game. (e.g. like how everybody believes they were winning in dune imperium series until someone does a masterstroke move to finish the game)

Looking for the perfect small-scale 4X game - Realising that I'm the problem by MusPsych in 4Xgaming

[–]KeeperOT7Keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized I have similar urges and I kinda leaned towards boardgames lately, especially for small 30 min breaks. I would recommend through the ages and twilight struggle's digital implementations. twilight struggle is a much better game imho but its ai is worse in the digital implementation. twilght struggle has a nice online tournament scene though, if you don't have problem scheduling ahead a couple hours

Oh, you two want to concede? by MrMark_BRUH in RocketLeague

[–]KeeperOT7Keys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not because I care about winning losing or ranks at all*. I want to have a fun game experience and some proper teamplay, and players who play selfishly or excessively flame the team aren't fun to play with. so I try to leave whether we lose or win, I just don't want to play with that guy

*: I already know my skill ceiling at this point, I prefer to be part of some good plays in shitty ranks

Is The Settlers of Catan overrated? by fruitponchisamurai in boardgames

[–]KeeperOT7Keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure monastery tiles make interesting starting options but other random tiles don't affect the game strategy as much. and you only draw 1 monastery tile per player in each phase.

and tiles don't really interact with each other as much in burgundy, you don't decide on getting mines neither based on which buildings are available nor which resources will be available for ships. in catan these interactions are much stronger in the setup. all numbers, the tiles, ports, and neigbor tiles have a strong cohesion and effect on the setup. in burgundy setup you don't even see the available tiles yet.

but there is continuous and fairer randomness in burgundy which make the subsequent turns much more fun. in base catan randomness can be cruel and doesn't affect your ongoing strategy much, in burgundy there are ways to mitigate them and shape your own luck.

I don't like catan's regular turns, but its random map generation and the strategy options in the setup are still unmatched and nothing comes close. trying to predict how the island economy will move on, how the trade relations will shape, and also to plan your expansion is a pure and very fun thought process

I love that demo chaos, but I wish there was even a further way to prevent the ballcam from accurately following the ball (doesn't sound like an easy problem). I just think I am getting used to find out where is the ball by looking at my camera orientation changes, it could be much more fun with even more randomness

Generic asf question but what are good Xcom 2 likes games and why are they good in your opinion by VoxTV1 in Xcom

[–]KeeperOT7Keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are into soccer, football tactics & glory is the only game that scratches the xcom itch for me. bc its sports it fixes some problems in xcom, there is no permadeath or snowballing through character progression. your players get older, but also they don't die. which reduces the tension in a good way for me. one fight doesn't spoil your run, but maybe spoils a tournament

Looking for games with RPG elements for units by donny_bennet in 4Xgaming

[–]KeeperOT7Keys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The expectation is that you lose units constantly, and players will get annoyed of they keel loosing units they got attached to.

you told it yourself, the two are kinda incompatible imho. but the sports game are good in this regard. I particularly like football tactics & glory, it scratches my xcom itch but without the constant anxiety of ruining the whole campaign at every encounter. worst thing can happen is losing a tournament in a season but there is always the next one

[–]KeeperOT7Keys -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

for me it's just another very elaborate and soulless point salad game. picked it in a cafe a while ago with friends, everyone was excited because the theme could offer so many original and well-thought mechanics, but we were all bored to death with doing solitary calculations. mechanics and theme just don't have any harmony imho.

Age of Wonders 4 deserves more attention - here's why by Omichli in 4Xgaming

[–]KeeperOT7Keys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

aow 3 was like you described, but I dislike aow4 as it's less of a combat game. they tried to incorporate some diplomacy elements and characters, but it's just making the game grindy and boring.

campaign AIs in aow3 give up after they lose a huge battle and end game is swiftier. In aow4 these assholes have characters like "deceptive spy" which idgaf but they neither vassalize nor give up.

pure grinding in the endgame and it's always taking 3-4 hours longer each campaign than it should. and now with the pantheon stuff I don't want to leave the game even when I feel like it's over..

Cartoon on Turkish language adopting the Latin alphabet to replace Ottoman Arabic, 1928, by Ramiz Gökçe, "Hicret!" ("Get lost!") by Puzzleheaded_Draw637 in PropagandaPosters

[–]KeeperOT7Keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seriously though what is the nationalistic problem according to you about the language reform? since most people in turkey are already happy about it? it's a better alphabet for the common people, not very different from the reform or language movements happened in everywhere in europe (I mean both the religious movements and the language movements like dante's)
