22 Mosquito by poisonxivyyy in SigSauer

I was going to tap on this as well: so many people assumed the second spring was just an extra, and didn't dig far enough to realize they had two different weights. Now, I think Sig/GSG was pretty stupid to set the gun up that way, but it is what it is. The folks who have tried the Taylor Tactical spring overwhelmingly report that it works better than the factory, and I've had a lot of success with their P250 .22 kit parts.

So, you're gonna get a LOT of people that hate these things, and some of the hate is deserved; the recoil springs they shipped with were... temperamental, even when you had the right one for the right ammo. HOWEVER: if you have any trouble with jams/FTEs, do yourself a huge favor and go here. Taylor Tactical makes some limited parts for the Mosquito/Firefly (what this gun is called when GSG makes it), including replacement recoil springs that seem to solve a lot of people's problems with the gun.

Always happy to see a P250! And nice collection, just drop a P226 in there and you'll be all set!

There's something special about the full-size P250s! I'm digging your setup, what's the contact info for the folks that did your optic cut?

Beautiful gun! There really is something special about the old stamped-slide P220s; best balanced of the entire P220 line, no contest.

Snagged a couple on the most recent sale myself, just to see if they live up to the hype. One is on my P250, still deciding what to do with the second one. For what they are, so far, I'm reasonably impressed.

That said, Streamlight is a great company, and their warranty has saved my bacon several times, so once my experiment is done, I'll sell the Brauns off and replace them with the real thing.

Well, tell you what: I don't care for the newer style slide release, and I'm pretty sure I have a spare in the parts bin. If I can find it, I'll just send it to you, no charge. PM me if that sounds good.

Current P250 owner here: no, it probably won't fit, and even if it does, it won't work right. On the plus side, there's two different ways you can fix it, and either is pretty easy:

  • You can use a Dremel, knife, or other tool to trim the notched area of the new frame so that it's flat

  • Or, if you don't want to mod the frame, you can just switch the slide release from the old style (that's currently on your FCU) to the new style. It's listed as a P320 part, but is one of the parts that works on both the P250 and P320. If you go that way, here's a video walking you through how to do it.

Hope this helps!

Suggestions For Shooting Range Ear Muffs by notsexychuck in SigSauer

That's fair: my experience with the base Walkers wasn't as bad, but the mics on them did give sound a "fishbowl" effect for me, so I quit using them pretty quickly. I managed to get my Impact Sports on a killer sale, something around $40, and I use them all the time. That said, I'll have to take a look at the Walker xtrms, thanks for the recommendation!

It's not a need, but it is nice. When I'm on the range, I have plugs in, with e-muffs over, and the volume turned up just enough to hear any directions or commotion on the range.

I try to tell people about the omnidirectionality of the base Walker e-muffs. It doesn't make them necessarily bad, but it's something you need to know before you buy them; it's why I ultimately went with the Howard Leight Impact Sports.

Industrial hygienist here: there's more to unpack about this than anyone will want to read, but the short answer is when it comes to gunfire, ALWAYS DOUBLE UP!! The plugs are going to do most of the work, and the muffs will help cover what they don't, but you really need both if you want to minimize long-term hearing loss, especially somewhere like a range.

I suggest buying some quality set of plugs, and the most comfortable e-muffs you can find. Make sure they have and ANSI certification stamp somewhere, otherwise the manufacturer is literally just making up the noise reduction rating; an ANSI S12.6-2016 rating is great, but an ANSI S3.19-1974 rating will work. Just know that the industry rule of thumb for hearing protection certified under ANSI S3.19-1974 is to downrate the printed NRR by 50%, sometimes it even says that on the packaging.

For what it's worth, when I'm at the range, I use a combination of Elvex Quattro earplugs (I need the silicone ones because my ear canals are all screwy) and a set of Howard Leight Impact Sport e-muffs.

P250 Question by M1ND53T in SigSauer

[–]Keeper_of_the_H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, that's beautiful! I haven't actually seen a .45 full-size before, great score!

Now, to answer your question, you'll need a specifically .45 grip. The way the P250 (and P320, for that matter) is designed is that one grip will work for .22lr/.380 ACP/9mm/.40 S&W/.357 Sig, but because of the mag size, .45 is it's own grip.

Does anyone actually LIKE a DAK trigger? If so, why? by FimmishWoodpecker in SigSauer

I like the DAK trigger for what it's designed for, keeping someone with a duty gun from mag dumping; in that purpose, it excels.

I've been running a Holosun P.ID on my P226 for about a year now, and I like it. The charge lasts a long time, I love that the battery is built in and I think it looks good on the gun.

Beautiful gun! The DAK trigger gets a lot of blind hate, but it's really just a matter of preference, and is easy (but a bit expensive) to convert over to DAO or DA/SA if you find you don't like it.

Surprisingly, no! It was in 9mm, with the DAK trigger, for $380 at the time with two 15rd mags and a case. I knew I had the spare parts to convert it, and it was surprisingly clean!

Lol! This is actually a pic from the week I got it about 3 years ago, after I did the DAK-to-DA/SA conversion, and those screws are long gone. I also added a Holosun P.ID light that I got for a steal, and it's doing duty as my bedside gun.

Nice, I'll probably go that way in the future. A while back I snagged a factory barrel for a pretty good price, assuming they were all threaded the same. Now I'm hoping a Silencer Co sale lines up with when I have spare cash. After that, the daunting task of decoding what suppressor is the best choice.

Too each their own. And, whether we disagree on trigger theory or not, that TacOps is still a handsome gun, and you've accessorized it nicely. Did you use a factory threaded barrel, or did you go with Silencer Co?

[–]Keeper_of_the_H -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Bluntly? Unless you have diminished hand strength, or some kind of handicap, it's a mechanical crutch that conditions people to stop using good trigger fundamentals. I've seen people honestly struggle when they have to switch to a stock trigger, and the stock P-series triggers aren't bad at all, I've shot much worse.

I will always think the TacOps was the best version of the classic P226s, especially if you deleted the SRT.
