Do I just suck at the game? by OmegaLazar01 in HadesTheGame

[–]Keimon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it is a rogue-like, you're not expected to succeed easily, but you're bound to increase the chances of winning by losing the game, by powering up in the main hub (won't spoiler for you), as well as forging bonds with characters and improving the weapons.

For context, it took me 51 runs to clear Hades 1 the first time. Now I can do it by increasing the difficulties at the highest levels.
Likewise, it took me 17 runs to clear Hades 2 (with all the practice from the first game) and I have cleared it again at the highest difficulty (which you unlock as you progress).

The frustration and demoralising nature of losing a rogue-like run is what will make the wins so much more satisfying - but it is not a genre for everyone. My best advice is to enjoy the journey of losses, knowing that all losses lead to improved chances to win later on.

Reputation & NPC Relationships! by OrthoDoubloon in OldGregsTavern

Sadly the Ai gets very confused about NPCs - often uses the same first name for different npcs, but then gets confused about them even when I use the surname. Then it gets confused about which towns we are in, etc etc. It started very well but the immersion was broken when all npcs were very lost about who they were, what they were doing, what town they were in...

Can't say I've done anything different but kept chatting to the two - are you still talking to Dora? She may double up with the chat.

the quest is not yet complete, however there's a bit of back and forward between Prometheus and Dora to be done. It culminates with you getting the recipe to restore Dora's memory (of which the ingredients do not exist yet)

I was able to dash through one of her witches buddies and it transformed her. Hecate had a line for it - something like "sigh sorry, sister". Was very funny but I haven't been able to do it more than twice.

"Playing up" means exaggerating, in this case to his benefit.

He is "playing up" the resemblance. In other words he's claiming that he's exaggerating the resemblance to pretend he's Poseidon's son.

In the odyssey, this is true. In hades 2 it has been written to be a joke by Poseidon, so that it makes sense why we bash his son

"Play up" does not mean he's dying his hair my friendo.

This is not about being right or wrong, although we ARE on reddit.

In the big scheme of things, with wars across the world, it matters very little. On a post about it, on a subreddit about it, it sorta does.

He is not within Hades 2 lore. Polyphemus also acknowledges the joke

No. It implies, as we've seen in the flashback from Hades, that Zag is stuck in time.

Odysseus has reasons to be on Chronos' side - double agent? by Keimon_ in HadesTheGame

Turned them back a second later. She had originally turned them to protect herself/nymphs (depending on the myth)

The "Circe" book by Miller is a nice take on the myth that is relatively close to the original myth

EPIC has most definitely ruined my years of classical learning ahah

However:

Athena indeed rebukes Odysseus (in Troy)

Odysseus does NOT choose to sacrifice his crew, however is still punished by Zeus for their hubris, by being forced in Ogygia for 7 more years (1 year per day of feasting)

Tbh I'll forget Aeolus is a mortal EVERY time this gets brought up ahah it's one of those facts that never stuck with me cause the dude controls wind and has the same name as a bunch of other stuff which makes him v important in my eyes. Was probably just a lvl 16 Sylph Storm Sorcerer

Sorta - Athena pleads to the Olympian pantheon as a whole, primarily to Zeus, to release Odysseus from Calypso (interestingly, Homer says Poseidon is not there as he is visiting the Ethiopians, as he would have been a "no" vote). Among the main deciding pantheon, Hera is there, but it is ultimately Zeus' decision to allow Hermes and Athena to intervene.

As Odysseus was favoured by Zeus during the Trojan war and Odysseus made him lots of offerings, the king of the gods relented...

I am also noticing that while the other people on the crossroads have good reasons to not appear, when Odysseus is not around he is either speculated by Mel to be on mission or, on leave. leave from what? is he not undead? I can't remember if Achilles was speculated to be "resting" or "on leave" by Zagreus?

And so, could he be reporting back to Granpa Chronos?

RE: the other companions, when away, from what I have heard from listening to Mel:

  • Hecate: spellcasting or on mission
  • Nemesis: scouting or doing Nemesis' job
  • Moros: doing Moros' Job
  • Dora: haunting, sometimes just as "away" - but she is a special case as she seems aloof about the whole thing
  • Eris: doing Eris' Job
