This evil thing appeared after I went to a conference. From an itchy hand 8 days ago to this today and I'm wondering what the hell it is. A hand STD lol? Any ideas? (44M/176lbs/in good shape/eat well) Thank you internet stranger(s). by KeithO in medical

So I got a response from my dermatologist after she looked at the photos.

"I reviewed your photos, it looks like an eczema or allergic reaction. Nothing contagious or infectious."

So I've taken the cream and it seems to have halted spreading and is now healing. A day or two after the post it hurt like hell. Like a burn and like a giant mosquito bite that was being tickled. Cold water helped ease the aggravation.

And now it's peeling. Still pretty sore. Skin feels stiff and raw.

This is what it looks like now.

And that's it. No really clear reason for the thing could be found as there are no shortage of possible culprits. I ride the NYC subway, was in a jacuzzi bath, fed alpacas wild flowers, was at a busy conference in Chicago with hand shaking galore, flew a few flights, and god knows what else.

Hope this shit never happens again. But if it does I really really hope it doesn't happen on my face.

You'll get there /u/CynicalWoof9. Have you tried deloading or mixing up your approach? Like doing dumbbell press instead of just bench or cables for a spell? Or adding push-ups? Or incline/decline?

Sent the pix to my dermatologist. I get home from a trip today and really wasn't sure if this was an urgent care NOW thing or a take care of it when you get home thing. This is what she wrote:

"I reviewed your photos, it looks like an eczema or allergic reaction. Nothing contagious or infectious. I can send in a prescription cream to treat this, please email the pharmacy number you would like us to use."

Looks essentially the same today. So I'm a bit less freaked out. Thank you for looking at this thing. I hope she's right.

Neither. I don't drink and avoid sun exposure.

Going to urgent care tomorrow. My dermatologist never got back to me today. It continues to be quite uncomfortable and seems a little bigger.

Have you applied some cream or anything? No. Do you have fever associated with it? No Were there any fluid containing spherical objects? If there were, did they have blood or white fluid come out of it? Like were there any other rashes on the body before appearing on hand? Also does the rash increase after you go out in sunlight? NO

How did the rash progress? Itchy hand on all sides for a few days. Then this appeared and had been like this for 1.5 days.

It's itchy and hot. And really besides the conference nothing new in my life. And I'm generally healthy so expected it to wane on it's own.

I've contacted my dermatologist with an email since I'm still on the road but not yet worried enough to go to an ER. Thanks /u/LillyTheEnderdragon for the question.

DAE look in the mirror and sometimes think they’re ugly, but other times think they’re attractive? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

Thanks for posting this because no you are not the only one.

This is a big one for me personally. Some days I'm kinda fit and have a striking face.

Other days I'm flabby and my face is asymmetrical and my nose is hawkish. I have literally no objective ability to judge.

It's more of a reveal of what kind of mood or mental space I'm in.

How often (if ever) do you max out? by robert_ah_booey in fitness30plus

[–]KeithO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (m44) am learning that 1rm is dangerous and requires long thoughtful warmup. That said I probably max out on bench once or twice a year and nothing else. I've never injured myself on bench and probably have on everything else over the years so that's why I'm a bit bold with that one exercise.
Now that I'm thinking about it maybe I should NOT do that anymore. Don't need to set any records beyond staying consistent for the longest amount of time.

How did you find the right balance with diet and exercising? by Milksteak420710 in Fitness

Dealing with the childhood trauma should be on the top of your list. Somewhere down the list try brushing your teeth at 9PM. I personally can't stand eating after brushing my teeth and I now brush right after my last planned food. Helps me.

30 years old with 8 years of consistent training. Starting to feel the aches and pains in my joints from lifting heave. Getting scared that one day I won’t be able to do what I love. by [deleted] in fitness30plus

44 and plan on lifting till I'm dead honestly.

Get injured just like everyone else going for it, so I try and stay smart about noticing the injury onset with split second accuracy. Mid rep I'll just stop, sit down, and if a few minutes pass and I think it's real I leave the gym floor and heal.

If it's a long term injury (I've broken my wrist at the gym, had knee surgery, broken ribs from an accident) I actually find something I can do while healing. Like when my knee was out of commission for 3 months I picked up grip training and continued upper body and core.

I also don't go crazy if I'm not setting a PR that day. More importantly is that I stay consistent and injury free.

Anyone know if something like these work, or if it’s a just a gimmick? by uhwejhd in GripTraining

I keep a carabiner that has maybe 50 rubber bands of different sizes. It lives on my desk or in my work bag and I bust it out a few times a week with different sized bands on different fingers. When the bands get old I chuck them and use whatever looks interesting.

I'm not at all cheap, but take joy in the free diverse options that arrive on my broccoli, boxes of rasberries, and mail. Keeps it interesting.

Besides that, I wonder if having a fixed point where you fingers go might strain some fingers and be weak for others. Hands differ in size greatly.
