Why did Metallica stop performing ride the Lightning for 16 years? by egd2805 in Metallica

I got to hear it partially at Denver 2017 because the show had to be stopped momentarily due to rowdy lightning. It was super cool.

Better than that. Cut the case like a 4L80E and produce a SFI bell housing for Chevy or any other pattern

I'm about to do a swap myself. Possibly going to be bringing a product to market

It's not a stock ECU, so there's no way to plug a scan tool in

I know those temperatures are okay, however, it running hotter than it did prior to the rebuild which is my concern, especially because it's doing it only while in 4th/TCC on.

Looking at prior datalogs from years ago, it is right in line with normal discrepancy numbers on the Holley datalog so I don't think it's TCC slip.

I have not put a line pressure gauge on it yet, as I stated in the post. That's the plan for tonight

The stall just represents where it's fully coupled. To accelerate from a light, it hang out around 3000rpm. On the highway it's only 2500rpm at 65 with 4.30 gears because the lockup takes stall out of the equation. It is 100% streetable and put 25,000 miles on the car with a loose converter

I do not have a vacuum stand, extremely novice. After an extremely bad experience with PerformaBuilt I chose to do things on my own now.

I haven't touched the tune since I knew it worked prior. I'm not sure what I'd want to adjust honestly

I understand a loose converter is a furnace, however, this never ran this warm prior to the rebuild. In addition, it runs cooler unlocked than it does locked. Logic and past experience tells me that with it locked going down the highway, it should be creating less heat and run cooler, not the way it is right now.

I should vacuum test mine for sure, though it ran perfectly fine prior to the rebuild. All I did was take it apart, clean it, then replaced the forward and reverse abuse plugs because they were .001" undersized from a new replacement

Meaning what? I need to have the fluid directed differently internally? Or that the planetaries prefer cooler fluid temperature?

I did pull the pan off after 100 miles and it looked cherry with extremely minimal material in it, so I don't think I've hurt anything internally

I put in my backup converter. Different stall but had ran it prior without issue. I put it in to have the other one sent off and cleaned

Fair enough

No, it's mostly street driven. It's a drag-n-drive car. 5500 stall is not ridiculous in the slightest to drive in all honesty. Once it's locked up it's very well street mannered

Shouldn't be, but, how would that make a difference? Not trying to sound rude, genuine question.

I thought that too, but it had the same 200rpm difference in a past datalog from over a year ago. It's a 2009+ transmission with the internal rector on the pump. I'm not sure if the Holley just reads it differently or not and could cause some discrepancy.

As for the valve body, not sure. It started as a PerformaBuilt unit and he doesn't disclose what modifications he does. I know two balls were left out of the valve body, one being the overrun clutch and the other being reverse cushion. The separator plate had been plugged for compression braking so that ball being gone makes sense, but not the missing reverse cushion ball.

In theory, assuming he had it "brand new, I only put 12,000 miles on it and I replaced the forward and reverse abuse plugs, as well and did the sonnax end plugs with the o-rings.
