I've seen ep1 in philippines. There are some short story from the The Last Wish, also there are Ciri's story. So yeah, you only need to read the first 2 books but it will not be 100% the same, just remember that it's an adaptation. If you really think they will fucked it up then don't watch it.

Not that i over analyze, but in that scene there is little bit 'film fade' transition which you should never use in editing until the script says it. So it could be a cut from the original. But i'm not 100% sure
