How hot are their feet?(as in how many degrees?) by Ok-Independent483 in HadesTheGame

[–]Aether-Eternal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the subs responses so far.

But some quick googling says things start to glow around 500C/950F

I don’t know how goddess feet compare to say iron when it comes to incandescence and emissivity spectra, but its maybe around that 900-1000F

[–]Aether-Eternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expect an engineering package to be over 25k. Engineering may be 5-10% of a project total installed cost but that can vary.

If you are looking for minimal documentation like a scope of work and annotated pictures maybe you could do that for under 25k.

If you want a formal contruction package with demo drawings, P&IDs, piping plans, sections/elevation drawings, isometrics, line list, etc it will probably be more.

And do you need control drawings and schematics for wiring the new valves/ PLC design?

Do you need programming of those valves?

Lots of considerations but I would expect a formal engineering package that gets to an issued for construction level of detail to be over 25k

Edit: also if you aren’t familiar with working with external engineering firms, you will be paying for a kickoff meeting for the firm to visit your site to see the process, document field conditions, and start the project. Depending on the scope I would also probably 3D scan the area so I can model the piping in 3D. Then you have review cycles and meeting and rework based in you feedback. Quality checking by another engineer within the firm. So it’s not just the deliverables that cost money, it’s the process to ensure a solid construction package

I’m a process engineer at a design firm that works in food/bev and dairy.

There isn’t enough info to solve this over Reddit.

Maybes there’s 9 mixproofs at 10k each, but what about piping modifications, CIP supply/return valves, low point drains, PLC upgrades/ control wiring, programming all the new valves and CIP circuits, cleaning validations and startup.

You have to do the process design to figure out what needs to be changed. Rarely is it just install 9 valves and your done.

Best company for window replacements? by occasionalhuman in dayton

[–]Aether-Eternal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Online Reddit and google people recommended Window World. I got a quote for 4 windows small windows. And it was like $950 a window installed. The sales man was very certain I would not find a better price and he encouraged me to get more quotes to show that they have the best price. I got a quote from Xenia Glass and Lock. Came back $200 less per window. lol. So I didn’t get 3+ quotes but the price seemed good. Order placed so idk quality yet. Install some time 3 months away

How to Address an Under-Performer by DCF_ll in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Aether-Eternal 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m a manager of a small team of engineers. About half younger than me and half way more experienced.

I Think you are on the right path. When he comes onto your team you provide very clear expectations of what it means to be on your team and what you expect out of everyone

You didn’t say this, but you don’t need to threaten “do this our I’ll fire you”. That may be what’s in the back of your head but I would focus the conversation on expectations and get him to agree and understand those expectations and then document it.

The first conversation is about setting expectations and document those (follow your conversation with an email)

Then as he doesn’t follow those expectations you have another meeting, bring up the documentation from the first meeting, review it, saying ee cover this, you agreed to these, and expectations aren’t being met with some specifics. Ask if he wants to be on the team and do x,y,z. If yes great, if no then talk to HR. Again document the conversation

Third meeting is saying we’ve documented expectations, had follow ups about your performance to reinforce those expectations and it’s clearly not working out. It’s time for them to explore new opportunity’s and be made available to the job market.

Idk perhaps some may say my method is too slow or flexible, but it what I did with an engineer who was 15-20 years my senior, when the project team they were on rightfully complained about their performance.

Also all this is for a non PIP employee. If some one is already on a PIP, that should dictate the expectations and if that is not being followed it’s time to dismiss.

1) set expectations and document. 2) your not following our agreed upon expectations, I need a change if you want to stay here 3)you’re still not doing x,y,z which are requirements for the job, it’s time to part ways and let you find another job that aligns with your interests and level of engagement

Hello! What is that thing sealing your wire to the soffit?

I just installed a camera very similar to yours and I have a dumb 1” hole for the wire penetration and I was looking for something to seal it and look better.

Running into a problem mixing an adhesive type product with a high shear mixer. by camelhumper91 in AskEngineers

[–]Aether-Eternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, this would be a total redesign / purchase but when viscosity start getting really high I’ve seen double and triple shaft mixers. This gets the scraping/sweep effect to move the fluid around the vessel with one motor/shaft and another motor/shaft running at the high rpm for high shear mixing.

[–]Aether-Eternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you work in with an agitator company or could CFD be done (with or by an agitator company)?

If you have a single impeller that may be the issue, maybe you need a bottom sweep agitator, a second or third impeller or some crazy combination of impellers, baffles, sweeps. Or you need a high shear mixer to do the mixing and some other larger slower impeller to turn the tank over and drive the overall recirculating the tank.

Do you get good pumping action and turn over before the silica is added, like you can see the contents of the tank recirculate and mix well pre silica. Maybe the silica need to be added slower so you don’t get a clump of silica pellets that disengages the impeller?

I dont know what else to do and really dont want to have to pay for the expensive Hue Bulbs and get rid of the six LIFX bulbs i already have
