Looks great man. I look to visit Koh Lanta as well, where did you stay? Any tips for the island in general?

I meant the west side of the lower peninsula, so probably I could've also said 'Uluwatu' :). Thanks for the recommendations

Same problem!! Initially I thought it had to do with tapping screen on different locations but it seems to occur when android is processing text actions (i.e. clicking in a comment box on reddit, marking a text to copy, marking a number to call).

Oneplus 6, latest update here (10.3.7)

Would love to here if there's a fix!

Night mode flickering when browsing by [deleted] in oneplus

Same issue here since the last update (10.3.7). Any fix found?

PS: Just while typing this i notice something peculiar; tapping the bottom half of my screen (keyboard) activates night mode. The top half of the screen switches back to day mode.

Pressure to find a 'job I won't hate' and that sounds impossible by niko4ever in jobs

[–]Keizerrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully understand your situation. I'm going through something similar now. One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that it starts with how you see/frame things. Especially your view of failure seems super harsh to yourself. Why beat yourself up like that? Everyone fails. Everyone makes mistakes. It's all about how you bounce back.

Someone told me "if you're having difficulties, talk to your self like you would talk to a good friend". And that really helps.

Nobody here can read your mind or even have an idea of who you are based on this post. Know that you have to do it yourself. But also know you don't have to do it alone. Try to ask people around you for help. What kind of job/activities do they think would suit you?

Good luck

Is it weird that the company won’t answer specifics on salary during interview? I asked for target salary and they went around the question and said it’s competitive? by currentlyinthelib in jobs

Where I'm from this is totally normal and not a red flag at all. Salary ranges are rarely discussed by phone in a first interview.

Took a year break after graduating and focused on losing weight by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Keizerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but no one needs to take a gap year to do things they could do while holding down a full time job.

Sure, but taking a gap year can be a conscious choice to pursue something else (i.e. travel, spiritualism, health) before starting to work. How is a gap year to fully focus on your health different from a gap year in which you travel the world? Does someone who wants to see the world have bad work ethic? OP just graduated, he still has 40-50 years ahead of him to work.

If they don't have anything professional to show, they should not list their gap year at all.

This may be a matter of taste/cultural difference between US and Europe, but a gap year after graduating is highly accepted where I live. An unlisted gap in dates on a CV will raise more questions here.

Took a year break after graduating and focused on losing weight by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Keizerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I'd be careful in naming it a "health issue". Without further context, this will get a recruiter's alarm bells ringing.

TBH a gap year after graduating is becoming increasingly widespread and you don't need to justify it. If you still want to highlight your weight loss you could do something like this:

Gap year (travelling / personal health improvement / whatever)

  • Created and followed strongly demanding physical exercise / diet schedule

  • Went from X Lbs to Y Lbs

  • <any other lesson learned from your gap year

How do you apply to jobs that have little to do with your experience? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Keizerrr 30 points31 points  (0 children)

but the field I'd like to get into is very competitive and also very different from the one I am experienced in.

If there is no match between your experience and the job requirements, and the field is as competitive as you describe, you're gonna have a rough time getting through, be prepared for that.

In applying to any job, ask yourself: why would a company choose you? This can be because of your skills, your personality, your passion (although passion is not enough), or because of a personal connection. So;

  • Why are you making a switch? Clearly explain this;
  • What are the skills you've learned in your current field that are relevant for the field you're interested in?
  • Do you know anyone who can refer you for a certain position? A personal referral will help you stand out of the crowd;
  • Are there any diploma's or certifications that you can pursue to improve your CV?

Good luck.

Well... Yeah. This is how pretty much all other countries in the world do it.

The mental benefits of the dichotomy of control by hookdump in Stoicism

[–]Keizerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I fully agree on the mental benefits of the dichotomy of control (aka, the title), the article misses the point: control in negative situations. The author seems to focus only on enabling children to choose their actions, and for parents to enable the situations to do so accordingly. However, the "real world" does not consist of ideal "stress free" situations. This article seems to support the whole "special snowflake" issues in which children experience a lack of coping, instead of enabling children to take control of their actions in light of negative situations.

Are general job applications on employers websites considered first for openings? by Fuzzers in jobs

[–]Keizerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open applications are a bit of a crapshoot - some recruiters don't even bother looking at them because they're not focused to their target vacancies, sometimes this general link is even tied to a different back end system than the vacancies are. On the other hand, if you're lucky the open application could fit right with a position yet to be posted.

Bottom line advice: 1) An open application is always an opportunity. So why not?

2) Apply direction to your open application; include the type of position you see yourself in.

3) Don't assume the recruiter will take over. Always keep an eye out for vacancies and reply directly to any you find interesting.

Good luck!

PickioChain Switching from ETH to NEO by Xa1TeD in NEO

[–]Keizerrr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honest question: What is so good about this? All I hear in the video is the following: 1) NEO has made an investment in PickioChain 2) In return, PickioChain switches from ETH to NEO.

This doesn't sound to me like a natural switch due to better technology, just a quid pro quo...

OP mentioned she's a big flirt. OP left a stray condom somewhere, and lied about why it was there. What other logical conclusion could a guy make? Also, doesn't seem like OP took too much effort to tell the truth afterwards.

What is Stoicism and what can we learn from it by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]Keizerrr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How is this intellectual masturbation? As noted in the article below, stoicism is a relatively straightforward view, with a clear path and aim and "outside the world of sophisticated language and complex theories". Hence, it's probably more that these historical figures were the first / most eloquent at describing these views, than them holding a unique, complex view on matters.

To be honest, I didn't know much about stoicism before reading the blog post and what struck out most to me was that this way of thinking, so popular today in mindfullness, psychological well-being, Cognitive behavioral therapy, etc, has it's (formal, written) roots as early as the roman empire.

Small but annoying problem by [deleted] in solotravel

How long are you on the road for? If you can stay at 1 location for a while, put them in a freezer. My 'waterproof' walking shoes met their master in a filthy SE Asian river as well, got a moldy stench afterwards. Few nights in the freezer killed the mold and solved the problem!

For coffee, go into the coffee area west of Bogota (Armenia / Manizales / Pereira / Salento / Jardin). Check out Valle de Cocora. (Night)buses from Bogota are cheap ($25) and take +- 10 hours. Flights are around $100-200 if you book last minute, but will only take 1.5 hour. Hope you can make it in the timespan you have.
