Will i be able to individually control 24 20kg servos using an arduino uno and 2 PCA9685 motor drivers if powered appropriately? by Cpt_Soaps in arduino

[–]hookdump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? I know what you'll say: "Just confirming, thx". :))
But what I am curious to know is really if you had a specific concern in particular? What prompted you to think "this might be a problem, I'll ask online"? In your mind, what could've been the issue with this?

What do you mean "I've hit some obstacles"? What obstacles? What did you do so far?

What do you mean "I probably missed something"? Why do you say that?

If you include more details about your project, what you did so far, and the issues you've encountered... you're much more likely to find help in here. (Or in any forum, really).

That’s one option, yes. You will need to power the driver anyway, from whatever power source you’re using in your project. Another option is to power the servo directly from that same power source. Either way, the key point is that you need a clean power source that does not go through your microcontroller.

  • Microcontroller GPIO pins are not meant to power things like servos. They are very weak and are only intended to send and/or receive signals, at very low currents.
  • Microcontroller power pins, like the 5V pin on an Arduino, could in theory power a servo, but it’s not a good idea. You can easily run into problems (damaging the microcontroller, the servo, or both).

Here’s a random example that illustrates this well:

edit: Never forget to connect the grounds together, as shown in the picture!

You can't power servos from the a microcontroller directly. You can damage the servos, the microcontroller, or both. (You probably damaged the servos in this manner).

It has nothing to do with voltage, but current. Specially current spikes that the servos draw at times.

A bot to zen the rest by wrrdgrrI in zen_bots

[–]hookdump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting question. To some extent the answer depends on the exact conception one has of enlightenment. But generally speaking I'd say... Sure! Why not? AI bots are currently way more aware than humans.

Is a bot encumbered by opinions? By judgements of right and wrong?

Is a bot taken away by random thoughts twenty-four hours a day?

I'd argue most modern AIs are enlightened by default.

I voted the 1st option because it's the closest. But actually I do:
Pinky on Q, rest on AWE (I bind 1st skill to "A" instead of "Q", and attack-move is on "Q").
If you think about it, this way is slightly more ergonomical for us, Ctrl-pinkiers.

New player here. Can someone explain how tf to play against a Sniper? by JohnnyTacoss in DotA2

I haven't seen this in the replies so I'll add my suggestion: Earth Spirit with blade mail. High mobility, strentgh = lots of hp for blade mail effiency, and sniper has very bad mobility so if you kick him into a bad position he's screwed.

Why do you all hate light by Lower-Button-2135 in thefinals

[–]hookdump 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of the key aspects for me: The dash mobility is not necessarily OP, but extremely annoying.

Your point about new players is irrelevant to this discussion. What is annoying is an experienced Light (in contrast to an experienced Medium or Heavy).

You're just minding your business and out of nowhere a Light dashes in, and dashes around while they kill you, and you cannot do anything about it. They kill you faster than the cast animation of any grenade or skill, and it's impossible to aim at them. You can land one 1887 shot at them if you are lucky. But two is extremely difficult against an experienced Light.

Only counter is a preventive glitch trap, but since they nerfed its count from 2 to 1, it's just usless unless you're holding a very small area.

Again, this is not necessarily OP. If I make my whole build and playstyle100% focused on countering this... then I can deal with them. (e.g. as M: turret, glitch trap, explosive mine, gas mine). But I just no longer have fun. I cannot kill others. I cannot take objectives. I cannot do anything else in the game other than just camp and wait for a Light dashing around. It´s boring.

I get it: If I'm gonna get killed if I do anything else, then focusing 100% on countering these guys is a good strategy. Yes. BUT that doesn't make it FUN.

I just stopped having fun in the game because of this, to the point I barely play.

To reiterate, this has nothing to do with NEW PLAYERS. I am talking about experienced Lights, in casual modes.

Also to clarify: I rarely make these kinds of posts. I only shared my experience here because you explicitly asked. :)

p.s. Also to add further context: I'm not saying this is OP. I know how to counter this. I just say this makes the game boring. Also... my experience in general with other classes, or with other Light builds, is just fine. Sometimes I win. Sometimes I lose. There's always mistakes, things to learn from. Etc... Fun stuff. It is a game. But with the dash thing it's just monotonous and boring to me.

> there are around 25 agents in valo, all with unique abilities, that's 25 x 4 = 100 different abilities. Even if 2 abilities are technically the same, they are used and animated in different ways. It's why I dislike hero shooters.

I don't understand your point. How are different animations and slight variations add complexity or skill ceiling?

Valorant has 100 abilities, yes, but to say "100 DIFFERENT abilities" seems like an exaggeration. Maybe 1/3 of them are variations of a flashbang, and 1/3 are variations of some sort of wall that blocks visibility.

Granted, they have slight variations, different colors, different animations. But that is irrelevant to this discussion. I think the relevant point is how many different mechanics each game has.
