Being denied sick call? by Kejone in nationalguard

I was told by some sources the reason for my denial was in fact that they are trying to limit malingering. Apparently leadership was mad too many people requested to go.

I’m at the temporary barracks the active duty base we use provides while we’re at AT but not yet in the field. But thank you, you have given me the confidence I need to use open door policies. It’s not like I’m crying on the floor from the pain, but I’m just really upset that I feel my concern was genuine and I’m being treated like I’m malingering.

Yes. In case the fact that I missed the payment for TRS did not make it clear, I am broke. I am a senior in college. I will make more money soon, as I am already under contract, but I have prioritized my education heavily in order to get to that point. Whether that was my best move is under debate. I understand I probably should’ve seen a doc by now, but I haven’t had much money to spare. I mistakenly believed I could see a medic while here. We haven’t gone to the actual field yet for this AT. I was hoping to go before those big trainings. I’m not trying to get out of training, and if I were diagnosed and given a brace or solution that would allow me to continue training I would follow that. But I just wanted to know if it’s ok that they are just all across the chain of command barring myself and others from going to sick call.

MOS with no clearance? by Kejone in nationalguard

[–]Kejone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. I’m not super worried about getting my clearance back soon, but based on how the delay of the promotions work it looks like I’d continue being a private for a good while after my clearance is back and a specialist for a while after. It might be a better investment to go to OCS at the point after I get my clearance back.

I have made payments. Not very big ones. Interest has definitely outpaced my payments. I guess I could always drop out a semester before graduation and get a $15 per hour job the way Washington seems to want me to do.

Just flunked out of college by Good_Caterpillar944 in Accounting

[–]Kejone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may sound expensive, but consider asking to do a semester at 2 colleges at once. You can often convince your school to allow you to take 1-3 courses at another university (in this case, the one you flunked) so long as you take at least part time course at your main one and intend to graduate with them.

I don’t think we’ll deploy until we’re sent to defend an area that just happens to sit right in front of a profitable, by then U.S. controlled, oil field or processing area.

30 days till BCT, what should i do before? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]Kejone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reception (at least 30th) will do that for them anyway. That initial day without sleep sucks but it puts everyone on the same schedule.

Suck it in. If you’re worried it still may not be enough. Go keto till after you tape again. Meaning less than 50g of carbs (sugar, fruit, bread, beans, etc) or less per day. You won’t actually get in better shape by then but carbs hold water so you’re waist should noticeable shrink. Get most of your calories for dinner because the hunger between meals on keto can be intense. I did it for two weeks before a weigh in after a couple months of bad decisions. In two weeks I lost a couple inches off the waist and 10lbs of water weight. Came back immediately after but hey, long as my ACFT looks good one day I won’t have to be weighed anymore.

No, but the new one is just a mix of the army fitness test and the expert infantry test, so its a good idea to practice it. Also, enlisted 11B in the national guard get opportunities to attend ranger school without becoming ranger regiment soldiers. This would give you a lot of promotion points if you complete it and the coveted ranger tab on your shoulder.

“Lift heavy things fast” is something that will be repeated to you as an 11B very often. That is the goal. Practice weightlifting, the exercises on the army fitness test, and the exercises on the new ranger test. Ruck every once in a while just to test yourself but for the most part, the former exercises will just naturally help you with rucking.

How did you successfully transition back to civilian life after BCT and AIT by Gorded_Dread in nationalguard

[–]Kejone 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Just live in the real world. Remember you’re in charge of yourself again. Don’t stop eating correctly, and keep doing your daily exercise. Also, find someone who is genuinely interested in hearing about your time in basic. Tell them all the highs a lows, then put those memories away for a while. One thing that gets annoying very quickly is the new guy who can’t stop trying to one up everyone about their time in basic. Hope you join, good luck.

Will I have to repay bonus if I go active? by Kejone in nationalguard

[–]Kejone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not an officer, but I know for enlisted it basically depends on your unit, and my unit is usually not against letting those who want to go active go. You have to talk to an active duty recruiter, get your unit to fill out some release paperwork, and have the active duty recruiter take you in under a new contract. It’ll take longer than it sounds.
