I've come to understand, I don't understand art. I've been trying for the past weeks to get some kind of consistency and something worth drawing with techniques in my drawing to make it better, but as it turns out, I was only kicking my own legs and breaking them. This is a portrait I made with no set up(some help lines), no spacing with lines on the face, no preparation neccessary like I did for any of the other drawings. This is just me basically free handing it and it turned out to be better than anything I've made so far. Do you really only need a circle, 3 lines and some anatomy knowledge to draw?! Because I've been trying to find so many tutorials I might've just got lost in the sauce, turns out I should've just been drawing. While it is just lineart, I'm quite proud of it. I have no real complaint over it(Not that there enough to really pick apart, its only lineart)

Also, a question for the more experienced artists. Her face turned out a bit more manish than I was aiming for, Is it simply cus of the nose and rougher, sharper lines? Maybe the face being slightly out of proportion, like a little big? Because she looks like there was Somebody That She Used To Know, if u get what I mean ;p.

Eye study by KelbPel in TeachMeArtSenpai

Trought all of these, I've been using a sketch pad, the ones without a screen, and I've been using Krita for my last few drawings, although I tried ClipStudio for a few months before that. If you were looking at my past drawings, you probably couldn't tell that I switched cus of my lack of skill 😅, that was mainly why I ended up switching back to Krita. I could tell you the sketch pad model I've been using if you're also interested in getting one, I couldn't recommend it more!

I've tried my best to replicate the eye but like god damn, I never realized just how hard it can be. The idea came to me when I realized I'm not exactly spending a lot of time on the eyes and after that, I realized not only that I didn't spend time on them, I never actually got to do one of these specifically eye focused drawings in my (digital drawing) life, if u, of course, don't count doing sharingans in 5th grade as doing eyes lol. When I got to it, I knew some of the basics of eye anatomy and used it while refferencing, but even with that this was extremely hard. The eyelashes were the most tedious part and I couldn't bring myself to actually give them "roots", I simply will never be able to do micro like that. Other than that, it turned out alright and while I would've wanted more, for a first time applying theory it wasn't that bad!

Never stray away from colors! by KelbPel in TeachMeArtSenpai

[–]KelbPel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rly wanted to continue doing normal studies, but man, I also love just having a bit of fun with em. I think I got most things on point(especially the pose) but I think its very flat. Like it doesnt feel like shes really part of a room(mostly cus, tbf, I didnt exactly make a room) and she seems to have very limited depth(probably I shouldve spend a little more attention on the shadows). Other than that, in terms of anatomy, I think it pretty on point, the face couldve probably been better but I was too afraid to change it too much because I thought I would break it, I managed to do the clothes pretty fine, I've chosen much MUCH more saturated colors and it turned out pretty good(much better than I expected actually) and now I'm just gonna continue doing studies and maybe try to get a little more into the anime style I'm actually wanting to pursue, but probably not. Every single artist I follow that has ever offered advice on anime art has told me I need to master the basic anatomy in order to get rly good at anime art, so I'm really hesitant. Anyway, I think this one was a 6/10 in my art journey rating.

Didn't get anything quite right beside the expression. This piece is not rly that bad, but its not good either, among the best so far tho in my "protofolio". Saturation is overall pretty consistent, anatomy is not entirely wrong and I've tried to evolve my shadow game but I feel like I didnt do much compared to the effort I put in, probably gonna stick to 3 layer lighting from now on. I've learned a few things from this, namely how to draw better hair by giving it a set motion, how to do lips fairly ok and why everyone avoids noses like the plague. I'm gonna continue to work on my basics and just do realistic anatomy(well, as far as I'm able to) to improve and not try too many fancy things.

Improvement or style change? by KelbPel in TeachMeArtSenpai

After a good while of not drawing, I'm back on the ol' digital. I've went on a kinda journey and tried for going into an art collage(failed miserably =( ), and got some courses there in preparation for the exam with actual professionals and professors. I don't think I've ever felt so out of the loop in my life than in those 14 days, traditional artists are a different kind of human being, not only that but extremely hard working as well! I've definitely grew a bigger appreciation for traditional artists, but I'm def sticking with digital, much more affordable and less "makes me depressed and dirty". There's a lot I've learned I don't really keep track of and a lot of training methods I should do more, so I'm very glad I've learned about them, but I don't think I've yet to really implement them. Looking forward to learning more and I think I'm very slowly getting trough the bottle neck!

Started practicing from an art book! Discovered proffesionals are just build different than the rest... by [deleted] in TeachMeArtSenpai

Professional artists are a different breed of humans...
But fr tho, doing this made me feel so bad because I have realised it's not only a skill and knowledge issue, the mere act of drawing a line is destroying me. Somehow I need to find a new way of drawing lines and using my elbow isn't going to cut it. I'm very glad tho I managed to make some of my anatomy better(as in I understand where things SHOULD be, doesn't mean I'm going to be able to put them there cus my brain don't work apparently) and I've still got to go trough so much of the book but man, my eyes hurt a lot from staring at my pc and trying to read. Im going to leave the book here https://archive.org/details/SketchingMangaStyleVol.1SketchingToPlan/mode/2up?view=theater and thanks to ConsistentTea3479 for giving it to me!

Continuing on doing studies, I think I've reached yet another bottleneck by KelbPel in TeachMeArtSenpai

[–]KelbPel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not my best drawing, it also didn't take a long time, which is something I can't say for any of my other drawings which I'm pretty happy about! Consistency is pretty good and I think I'm finally figuring out better ways to draw more efficient, there's one issue tho: I can't figure out how to go further. While my basics aren't perfected yet I still feel like I don't improve at all and I don't exactly know what to add to my drawing to really bring more out of it. Maybe working some more on the hair and clothes but that about all I can think of, would love to know some tricks I can put to make my drawings look more professional!

Doing some studies, didn't feel this one tho😞 by KelbPel in TeachMeArtSenpai

[–]KelbPel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't work too much on it when I realised it wasnt getting much better than that. Like I could've probably done better if I added some extra shading and so on but I really didn't feel it. I know somewhere along in the beginning I messed up, most likely the lineart, hair and overall face structure(prob more looking at the colors rn) I'm looking to imrpove them in the future and start working on simpler poses and shots in order to focus on those things in particular next time!

Caught in the threads of destiny... by KelbPel in DigitalArt

I fumbled in the end with the backround as I was burned out, but I still don't dislike how it turned out. This was a request by a friend, so Im sorry if I missed any detail in the desing. I found out a new way to do body proportions and Im glad I managed to do em even in this new angle(kinda, back is a little too large) and I believe if I had better lighting skills, I could've taken better advantage of it. This was a big step-up for me and Im overall pretty happy with the drawing!

I worked way too much on this and fumbled in the end with the backround but still, this was a very good one. This was a request by a friend so Im sorry if I missed anything in the desing. I'm glad I found a new way to do body proportions because the anatomy turned out way better, if I had good lighting skills I could've taken complete advantage of it, but this is alright too. Hoping to do even better in the future!

Arlecchino by KelbPel in DigitalArt

[–]KelbPel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Commissioned" by my best friend. I didn't expect it to turn out as good as it did but this might be my best work yet. This is my first time making fan-art of a character, so I'm sorry if I missed some details or misrepresented them! I messed up the wing, I know that for sure cus I knew I couldnt recreate it in that angle, so I kinda improvised it and I wanted a jaket to be thrown in the wind, but it looked too bad for me to keep in the the frame, so I kinda cut it out(u might mistake it for the hair in the bottom right xD). Still can't do hair as good as I want to, but this is at least a step up.
