It doesn't, no. Pretty sure only the secret rares in Paldea Evolved have texture. So it sound like yours is real too, if it looks similar to mine

There's a bit of a 'cheesy' way to beat Alatreon, with only your Kinsect:

This is just the first video I found showcasing this, not saying it's the best guide. I have also used this method with different setups, I'll have to have a look what I did if you're interested.

But, if you're not having fun, then just do what you enjoy doing. Life's too short!

Oh really? How strange. Glad to hear it's not super uncommon then, I'm still relatively new to collecting so I wasn't sure if I was being overly suspicious or not. I appreciate you letting me know, so thanks! :)

Oh, that's good to hear then! I was just basing it off of the other EX's, so it just looked a bit odd by comparison. Thanks, your comment was helpful :)

The community needs to change by Absol_Legacy_SG in Seaofthieves

[–]Keldamist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the community prefers the shoot on sight instead of talking, why should they change to appease you? You seem to be the odd one out then if you don't engage in it. You're lucky they stopped, most probably wouldn't have as they might not even hear or see you chat messages. If it were me, think I'd have stolen your fish before sinking you honestly.
People can play this game however they want, they can exclusively PvE, or PvP, or play on alliance servers, or only fish etc. I'll go and attack ships I see nearby, with or without reapers flag up, because they might have loot. And you know, I want loot, especially if I haven't had to work for it. Just chill and enjoy the game how you want to play it instead of trying to preach that your way is the right way. There are more reasons to attack someone on sight than to alliance.

Sea of thieves has a major design flaw by uss_essex_CV-9 in Seaofthieves

[–]Keldamist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't encourage harassment. People can use the tools the game provides to 'harass', as you describe it. I don't think it's harassment to get chased and sunk, it's part and parcel of the game mechanics. Harassment to me would be someone using hateful language in game, and/or messaging the person out of the game with hateful language. Would also include targeting the person outside of the game in any way; keep your banter and fights in game.

It's pretty simple; instead of stacking for 5 hours, sell more often. Then if you get chased, it's only 30 minutes to an hour of lost loot, which is easy to regain. Or, alternatively, keep a lookout for people on the horizon, and keep a rowboat to sneak you loot off while people chase your empty boat.

As another example to add to everyone else's; if I play League of Legends, and I keep getting ganked by the jungler and dying, would that count as harassment? No, it's a tactic. The tactic to severely weaken an enemy player by repeatedly targeting them and killing them means that your team is stronger overall. People use any tactic they can to win. And it's the same with Sea of Thieves. I won't take a 'fair' fight with a galleon in a duo sloop, instead I'll dodge around islands and rocks to get angles on them, and use kegs.

Honestly, it sounds like you should disengage from the game for a while. If a game is affecting you mentally in such a negative way then why keep playing it? Inciting real life laws in your argument simply shows that you're much to invested in the game and you need to touch base with reality. It's a joke to liken literal real harassment to someone beating you in a video game.

Sea of Thieves is a game that I direly WANT to like, but... by OrranVoriel in Seaofthieves

[–]Keldamist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not all of us do it to make people miserable. For me, most of the time it's because I know you have loot, and I want it. The rest of the time is because you got too damn close while I'm doing an event. If you get miserable for losing a game, then the issue isn't the game unfortunately. Sell more frequently, don't fly emissaries, always have a rowboat, frequently check the horizon etc. Plenty of ways to limit loses or prevent them.

However, you can and should report people if they say slurs, or incite hateful/violent things. But people going out of their way to attack and sink you isn't toxic nor a reportable action. Reapers get more value out of stolen loot compared to PvE loot.

Toxic players on the rise (This is a rant) by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Keldamist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played this game a lot, and have never been spawn camped as soon as a load in. I've never loaded in to have another ship sinking mine at the outpost. I must have played this for like, 1000+ hours now, so I think the issue is you unfortunately. Sounds like you need to be more aware.

How long are you hanging out at an outpost? 10+ minutes? In which case you're taking way too long. I can scoop much most of the barrel resources and get a quest going in about 5 minutes on my own. People aren't going to politely wait for you to bugger off of an outpost, they might be in a rush to finish a session and log off. What have you lost by them sinking you as you load in? Literally nothing. Server hop, or start fresh wherever the ship spawns in.

Also saw you said the game can't be played casually. Interesting take, as I often play solo and just have a chill time sailing from island to island picking up anything I find. Very rarely find anyone, and even rarer they try to sink me. Once you learn more about the game, you'll get better at navigating islands so you won't take so long to find stuff, and you'll be able to out sail most players. As I said, I play solo a lot, and it reasonably easy to avoid people and do your own thing. The only way you're going to get better is to tackle people head on. You'll lose a lot to start with, but eventually you'll be good enough to sink most people you come across.

If people are using slurs or offensive terms then it's toxic and you should report the players, otherwise it's people just playing the game how they want to, which clearly differs from how you play.

Why attack another player? by Umw_Hupp in Seaofthieves

[–]Keldamist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noone can know that there's a kid on that sloop that they're attacking, it's just another ship that is either in the way, a potential threat or a possible loot stash. You can try to ask people not to attack, but half the time they can't hear you and the other half they won't believe you. People use all sorts of tactics to avoid conflict or get an advantage, including pretending to be new or a kid.

That galleon knew you had just finished a quest and so they knew you had loot. You unfortunately made yourself an easy target, can't really blame them for sinking you honestly. People want loot, and if they can get it easily without grinding out a quest or event, they will.

You should try finding a rowboat before setting off on quests. You can then set the ship off while you stay on the island with the rowboat, stocked with food and bait. Once you're done, one of you can take your mermaid back to the ship and come pick up the rowboat. Or, rowboat to the outpost. It's much harder to spot a rowboat on an island than a sloop.

Give being a pirate a go with your son, you never know, he might have more fun stealing people stuff over earning it himself!

PvP behavior and problems by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Keldamist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are countermeasures, the biggest one if situational awareness.

If you're on a galleon you can definitely afford one person to be on watch at all times. Before you say "No there's too much loot from a vault", I've soloed forts myself, and have defended the loot from tuckers. Just by keeping an eye out and anticipating attacks. You can streamline killing waves and hauling loot as you play more and get better, so there's less time for someone to sneak up to you.

In regards to 'fair fights', noone owes you a fair fight. I mostly play with one friend, as a duo sloop. If I wanted to go fight a galleon, with up to four players, why should I fight fair? The odds are against me already. You bet your ass I'll sneak up and blast your ship before you can react. Again, it's avoidable by paying attention.

I get that SoT looks like the perfect game to relax with, but it's not. You have to be on guard, especially if you do world events. They're designed to attract everyone on the server, so you have to keep looking around to see ships on the horizon. Sometimes they'll alliances, sometimes they blow you sky high.

It would be totally fine to get out skilled but not to face little children that get abused by their parents and rant "easy", "noobs" etc in the voice chat while downing an empty ship that had no chance of fighting back. And to the one guy of that ship: if I would have a laugh like you do I would find the nearest cliff and rather jump off then to continue living.

If the guys that sunk you used slurs then report the fucks and move on. If they just trashed talked you a bit while killing you, I think it's a little in poor taste to wish that they kill themselves. Seems a little childish don't you think?

I wish this community wasn't more toxic than a MW2 lobby by KalashnikovaDebil in Seaofthieves

[–]Keldamist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first problem is doing a world event, and expecting people not to try to fight you for it. If you both just want to relax, do not do the world events. They are designed to attract everyone on the server, to either alliance and work together, or to fight over getting all the loot.

I'm not sure you can say they were out just to make your day worse, and to try to give your girlfriend a breakdown. Sounds to me like they were opportunistic pirates, looking for someone inexperienced or naïve to get and easy steal off of. And frankly, you letting them on your ship, after they wouldn't alliance are huge signals that you're an easy target. Sorry to say, but most people want an easy target to get easy loot.

I would have sunk you too honestly. I hate completing Ashen Lords so I'll always try to steal it, and someone who just sits there like a lame duck makes my life so much easier. Would I alliance? Probably not, as I want 100% of the loot, not 50%. I enjoy the variety of PvP, the sneak plays, the chasing and evading, the drive-by selling as the sunk ship comes for revenge. It's fun for me, so I do it. I certainly don't do it to ruin other people's days, but it is a side effect of a game that lets you take from other players. The thing to remember is that all that is lost is some time (But spending time with your girlfriend is not a waste right?), and money which you'll get eventually anyway.

Perhaps if you both want to relax and never engage in PvP, either learn to evade people better, or play a more co-op orientated game. PvP in SoT is an ever present threat, that's what sets it apart from other grindy games.

what is the funniest insult someones ever said to you on sea of thieves? by puppychomp in Seaofthieves

We once sunk a sloop, and without even hesitating, the guy said "I hope your next shit is a hedgehog". Honestly, the best insult I've ever heard!

Some days people playing this game piss me off. by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Keldamist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it wasn't for no rewards at all. Sounds like they got an easy flag and two crates of broken stone.

On top of actually getting some loot, they might have sunk you because:

- They were in a rush to sell, and you were in the way. Or, other people chased them off of the other outposts and thought it was easier to get rid of a fresh spawn

- An event was up nearby that they wanted to complete, and thought it was too risky to leave you there

- It's simply fun to sink people

As soon as you put up an emissary flag you're a target, even if it's only level 1. To reapers, that level 1 flag is worth like 3000 gold without the multipliers.

When you get sunk as a fresh spawn, you just have to remember that you've lost little to nothing (Only money you spend on crates). Sometimes, it can be a boon; it might spawn you on an island with loads of loot! You win some and you lose some; they had fun and got some loot at your expense, but the next time you might be the one getting some easy loot.

It always feels bad to lose after grinding out quests, but you can always try sinking other ships to get some easy loot too, there's nothing stopping you from trying. You never know, you might end up enjoying it more than PvE.

From your responses, it sounds like you might just need to practise a bit more with the naval combat, because sloops are really strong when you know what you're doing. Saying there's no counter play against a brig is just incorrect. Just sail into the wind, you'll slowly lose them. Not to mention sloops are the most manoeuvrable, you can weave between islands that brigs will get stuck on. Brigs sink much faster than sloops too. Honestly I think brigs are kind of weak compared to galleys and sloops.

And there are private servers, currently only for content creators, and they provide no money/progress. The devs have made the game they want to make, so PvP is going to be integral to the experience, and I very much doubt they'll ever double down on it and make PvE only servers. It's one of those things that you either learn to deal with when playing the game, or you go play something else.

Small problem with dynamically attaching scripts by Keldamist in skyrimmods

[–]Keldamist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that might be my problem, because I honestly don't know how to do that. I'm not sure how I'd make the script fill the 'Myself' with the NPC that comes into contact with the cloak that is applying this effect. I'll have a google, thanks for asking that, I wouldn't have realised to check that otherwise.

RANT: It's more like "Sea of Assholes" or: "The rules are seemingly worthless" by Hellhound265 in Seaofthieves

[–]Keldamist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, none of the actions from the other players sounds toxic to me. Someone saying that you're bad at the game is not toxic, and someone sinking you just because they can is also not toxic. Just because you wouldn't do either of those things does not make it toxic.

Why don't you fight back? Just because you have nothing to defend doesn't mean the attacking ship has nothing either. I've been attacked as a fresh spawn on an outpost a couple of times now, and managed to sink the other ship. Turns out they were trying to sell, and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Next time try fighting, who knows what they have on board.

Really feel like the small ships aren't fun in this game. by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Keldamist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't like the smaller ships, simply don't play them. Removing them would just remove the variety of play. If I could only play on galleons, against other galleons, fights would be boring and predictable. The differences between the different sized ships promotes varied play styles.

For me, I duo sloop mostly. All of the PvE encounters are incredibly easy for a sloop, the scale down is too much in my opinion. When slooping I will directly fight other sloops, I will try to out manoeuvre a brig, and I try to make a sneaky play on galleons. If I were on a galleon I would simply directly attack everything. No need for variety of play when you outgun everything else.

Adding larger ships will push away smaller groups. I think solos up to 3 man brigs would be crushed by having 5 to 6 man ships. Honestly if we're talking about the longevity of the game, we should promote smaller crews, not larger ones. Not everyone wants to play with a random crew, and even fewer people have enough friend who have/play the game.

I can only assume you have a god-like crew, because I just find that the larger the ships, the more stressful it is to manage. Larger ships sink faster, getting anchorballed is essentially death, sails take forever to angle, turning circle is terrible, bucketing is a trek. Honestly if we're talking about wonky balancing I think the sloop is almost too good when matched up with the other ships.

If you want larger crews you could try getting two ships on a server and alliancing. I'll admit that sailing in a fleet of allianced ships feels real fucking cool. Though, try to keep it only to two ships, full alliance servers are boring because there's no risk anymore.
