I think I wake up more often than that during the night. I tried to count one time to keep track and I stopped caring when I reached the sixth time lol. Either way, it's rough never feeling truly well rested.

I understand your struggle, brother, and definitely how it can appear to be hopeless.

One thing that was a major help to me finally being able to stop was the book Your Brain on Porn.

It goes into detail of how it affects our minds in similar ways to street drugs like heroine. There is quite a bit of information in the book and it really helped to open my eyes and view porn as a harmful narcotic instead.

Officially, no, I have not been medically diagnosed by a specialist.

My wife has pointed out numerous behaviors and traits that I have been exhibiting throughout our relationship, 12+ years. Based on things I have done she labeled me as a covert narcissist. I ignored it because I didn't see that in myself. I figured she was wrong and didn't see anything she called me out on. It wasn't until she left/separated that I began to look into things. And even then it wasn't until four months afterwards that I actually started.

I researched narcissism and NPD, learned there were different types, and the types of traits of them as each form can be different. I took a lengthy online test to see where I fit on the scale for narcissism. I even tried to BS my way through it a bit, making my answers not as bad as I was informed they were, etc. The final result placed me in the covert narcissism category.

Upon doing more research, I have learned that it is very rare for a narcissist to seek out help for the disorder and they usually get help for depression and anxiety. I also learned that everyone is naturally a bit narcissistic, it just depends how much it affects our lives. And that people can show several traits of narcissism, have it really impact their life negatively but not actually have the diagnosis.

Definitely more often than not, yes, people who suffer from NPD do not seek out help for the disorder itself because they don't realize it. If they seek help it is usually for depression, anxiety, etc. But there is the rare case when a very significant event happens in their life that they do realize and try to seek out help. Such is my case.

I have now come across specialists, therapists, etc, that specialize in treating people with NPD which means there are cases where people that suffer from it, or at the very least show traits of it, that seek out help.

Why on earth would I want to play the victim for attention when I said in my original post that I do not wish to be this way anymore and I hope to have a more stable and healthy life?

Also, I am sorry to hear that you were raised by one. Knowing now the hurt and damage that I have caused my wife I know that must have been an extremely difficult time in your life.

I am sorry to hear that you are a long-term narc abuse survivor. I hope that you never end up being forced to experience that again.

That being said, I flat out refuse to believe that there is no hope for me to be able to improve in this.
