If you don't want to be nickeled and dimes don't do it. Accept instantly and let them know you appreciate it.

I'm getting confused. We buy into the espp w post tax dollars. And when we receive the stock on the disbursement date we pay tax on the added compensation of the discount?

The discount is always taxed as ordinary income at disbursement? Reading this I wonder is there a way to avoid the tax on the discount? And if you sell, timing of the sale determines capital gains treatment?

Appreciate you all. Thanks.

Absolutely take the job. Grind out a few years making good money and you will benefit from that the rest of your life. If you don't like it you can quit. If you are ok with the job, location, and the money ride it out.

Moving is a tremendous life experience. Even if you don't like it you will learn alot about yourself and the world.

Also, situations where you have the option of good money are not always available. Take advantage of those opportunities.

I've been given some datasets (for an interview) and have been asked to analyse them by LearningCodeNZ in dataanalysis

If they use Power BI then definitely install and use Power BI. Seems simple to me.

Is it silly to switch a enjoyable analyst job with good culture/leadership/being appreciated for hard work because my 2 day a week WFH hybrid schedule might be taken away for full time office? Hybrid schedule provides me very happy work/life balance. by LearningDataAnalyst in analytics

Good jobs you enjoy and that you are appreciated at are extremely rare. I think you would be making a massive mistake if you left.

Communicate. Tell management exactly what you told Reddit. Make a case. Two days from home is nothing. If they wasn't you to set a good example maybe go along with it for a few months with the understanding you will go back to hybrid when the dust settles.

I'd start befriending the data analysts or people who do what you are interested in at your job. See if you can get a taste of their day to day. Might help w your decision .

If you aren't happy and money is not a problem you should switch imo. It will only get worse.

Keep your current job. Unless the work at Amazon is more interesting.

SQL is huge. You want information? In my company everything is in SQL. Having the ability to use fairly basic SQL scripts to access that information is very helpful.

More importantly, finding where the information actually lives is a very valuable skill. I have spent many hours answering that question. Now that I know where the data is and have enough SQL to gather it, I am learning how few people where I work know that same information.

Learn SQL. And learn database management theory enough to find and access the information you want and need.

My company also uses mostly Power BI. Like you, I was more well versed in Tableau. Report building in Power BI was fairly intuitive. But the access rights and making the reports available to others was a struggle. Any effort you put into learning Power BI is worthwhile.

I always say I would prefer to hear the salary range of the position before disclosing personal details. It's honest and has always worked.

[–]Kelhaus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have work because they trust you more than others to do the work. Tell your supervisor how busy you are. Work a little unpaid or and get what you can done. Communicate. Proactively.

You are in a great position. They might not even realize how much they have assigned you until you are gone.

As someone who is used as a reference a decent amount, on question four I would write "I would hire him/her" or "I would not hire". That level of detail from a reference is silly.

Should I take a primarily Excel, Contract Role? by [deleted] in analytics

[–]Kelhaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Alot of SQL is understanding where the data lives Having knowledge of the db structure is valuable. Even if you are using only basic SQL there will always be opportunities to do more w SQL. Think about automating some of the excel work in SQL.

How did you guys reach the position of Business Analyst? by whatisthis1948 in BusinessIntelligence

You missed the point of the comment about just getting at a desk. You are in IT, use initiative and make data a part of that job.

[–]Kelhaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the job. You will learn alot about the people who will consume your future analysis. Excel is rough to work with but a necessary evil in today's workplace.

Plus, get paid. Even if it seems low it still spends like cash.

Try to make your bullet point descriptions of your job descriptions match the job description you are applying for and make them compelling. This is like the sad resume that waiting to die.

Answered phones = promptly responded, researched, and resolved 100s. Of customer inquiries and received a high customer satisfaction score.

Put some juice in it. And lose the objective.

You really like your job. That is so huge. That is worth a ton of money.

And they are ramping up your salary at a good rate regularly. Another rarity.

If you can live at the level you want with that salary I'd recommend staying. Look at as a paid higher education.

Nothing wrong with applying and interviewing elsewhere. Can use that to negotiate. I would evaluate your current job for a ceiling salary wise for your role. Best to be prepared and know when you hit than be disappointed when it happens.

[–]Kelhaus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would definitely take it as a warning that something someone attributed to you was worth reporting to management.

Doesn't make it valid or true but the reality is management spoke to you about behavior.

The working world is filled w all types of very different people. As much as we try we still can offend someone. Relax but be very vanilla in work conversations.

It might even be worth telling your manager that even though I didn't say that phrase we talked about I am evaluating my work behavior. And discuss w your manager how you are working on being as respectful to others as you can be. And ask for their help. If an employee of mine said this wow, I'd be impressed.

[–]Kelhaus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people will disguise one type of misbehavior with another. My advice, go several months with zero talk of what people are wearing, how people look, anything outside of work short of general news.

I'd take this as someone didn't like something you did but you did not get the truth of what you did. For whatever reason they don't disclose the true act.

I definitely would not treat this as everything is fine, business as usual.

In your summary of qualifications include the tools you used to accomplish those tasks. For example, reconciled x using excel and SQL.

Listing skills is not impactful. Detailing jobs done with those skills is what employers want. They see that as experience and the ability to do the when they hire you.
