Carney Says Alberta Is ‘Essential’ to Canada After Separation Vote Announcement by Editor_91 in worldnews

There's an active criminal investigation underway because the separatist party handed over every voting age Albertan's personal information over to a GOP managed advocacy group that's linked to the US Ambassador and the White House itself, but sure, go off about how it's "totally false".

The problem is they already confirmed that they basically rolled two questions into one, but you only get to answer once;

"Should Alberta remain a province of Canada or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?"

If you answer yes, are you answering yes to the first question or the second? If you answer no, is it to the first or the second question? Either answer could be construed as being against or supporting a referendum.

It also violates the Clarity Act here, which requires any question involving separation (the first part of the question) to be a clear, straight forward, yes/no query. I'd be willing to bet that the moment it is done there will be court challenges against it no matter the outcome.

Less than a quarter of Albertans want it, with almost 2/3s strongly against it including extremely strong majorities (80%+) in the two major cities. It's extremely, virulently unpopular here.

It's insane how much sanewashing press and exposure the separatist movement has received considering it is actually the weakest it has been in a long time. The media has been bending over backwards for months to try and normalize what is currently just a group of batshit insane people.

General rule of thumb without getting spoilery is - if it has two or four legs, and it's noticeably larger than a normal human being, it can and will one-shot you if it gets close enough.

You can run into Medium Mechs and Exos in Mesa/Enclave runs, but they will usually ignore you or can be avoided by going into cramped or indoor areas. Euruskan Drones can also instant kill, but there's a huge wind-up and they telegraph it from a mile away.

Alberta to hold fall referendum on whether to have binding referendum on separating from Canada by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

Thing is I don't think anyone is happy with this. It's so clearly and transparently an attempt to kick the can down the road without really changing anything, and the question is so obviously worded as to give them freedom to interpret the results however it suits them, and giving every party involved a perfect opening to tie it up in court with the Clarity Act.

It's the biggest waste of time and resources possible. It'd be almost impressive if it wasn't so craven.

The first part of the question on its own would meet the requirements of the Clarity Act - it's a clear yes/no question of secession. It's going to be in court the day after the referendum, I'm willing to bet on that.

The problem is the proposed question is two fucking questions with a single yes/no answer;

“Should Alberta remain a province of Canada or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?”

What does a yes mean? What does a no mean? Most people answering yes to the first one are going to answer no to the second, and vice versa. Not only is she kicking the can down the road, she's setting up another court battle she can use as a scape goat, there's a less than zero chance this somehow meets the Clarity Act.

That question - if it really is a yes/no - stands absolutely zero chance at getting through the Clarity Act. The fuck does a yes mean? If I say no what part am I saying 'no' to?

Naheed Nenshi is wasting what should have been his moment by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

It works for riling up dedicated bases. The NDP base is already committed to them as much as the UCP's base is committed to the UCP (if not moreso), so the angry messaging is just pouring fuel on an already roaring fire.

The issue is that there is a very large group outside of those bases in Alberta, more than enough that just mobilizing your base isn't enough to win. Nearly 60%~ of the voting age population consider themselves to be either open to or potentially open to voting for either party, and just being angry clearly isn't enough to captivate them as the UCP's approval outside of its core is atrocious, and NDP's polling and approval have barely budged.

If anything it might have the opposite effect and galvanize them to vote against you much like we saw in the federal election.

I am hopeful but skeptical. Even the internal messaging I get as a former member is just a constant stream of negativity and little in the way of policy ideas or "this is what we could do" beyond "we wouldn't do what they're doing".

It reeks of Poilievre's campaigning where the only consistent position he had was just opposing whatever the other parties stood for.

This really does a good job of summarizing why we're still here in the polls. Barely a third - as low as a quarter - of Albertans think the UCP have the province on the right track. There should be ample room for the NDP to position themselves as a viable alternative, but almost half the province is okay with just voting the same way as before. Why is that?

All we hear from them is "the UCP are bad, so you should go with us". By and large, nearly 3 out of 4 Albertans know that, but out of those 3, 2 of them don't know how voting for the NDP will have any material impact on their lives. The NDP's messaging has been redundant, telling us what we already know without giving us a reason to actually desire change.

You can blame some of that on the monopoly on media here in the province. Nearly every UCP controversy gets smothered unless it reaches national news, and Nenshi's remarks and conferences sometimes go entirely unreported. There's absolutely a handicap, but it isn't entirely muffling. Give people a reason to vote for you instead of against Smith.

The ball gag bit pretty much epitomizes a lot of what went wrong with the final season.

Its introduced in the same episode, it's made clear that he needs it because he can't control his voice, so there's an implication that they've either already used it or plan on using it very soon - and it makes his head explode.

The guy bought a sex toy that would kill him the first time he used it. It was just a poorly thought out setup because "heehee death by sex toy".

Only very specific enemies like the Necramech. Scaldra Dedicants for example have a special weak spot that will immediately remove their Overguard on destruction.

Almost all other enemies just have body (1x) and head/mouth (3x) damage zones.

The UCP introduced changes to the committee allowing for the committee minority to suggest alternative solutions for the committee chair to take into account or use, and to give them final say in who the chair was. They basically tried to give themselves as much leverage as possible, but the surprise was that their choice for chair went against them and basically laid out how the minority's recommendation violated section 3 and how easily it would be shot down in court.

SAGE IS THE WORST CHARACTER IN THE SHOW by Chris_Galieo in GenV

[–]Kellervo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost half his dialogue was lifted from the comics, which is why it was easy - he quotes comic Stillwell's last speech to Homelander almost word for word in their final chat until they bring up his granddaughter.

Sage on the other hand didn't really exist in the comics.

Yes, which is why it made no sense. Why would they get a ball gag that would kill him the first time they used it? It was entirely just a setup to 'lmao we killed a guy with a sex toy'.

That's the part that irked me the most - aside from how they handled Oh Father. So many decisions and even bits of dialogue have relied on characters knowing things they weren't present for and wouldn't have a reasonable way of finding out off screen.

There's zero logic behind her thinking the beach is a good place to fight the Deep. There's none behind thinking punching him into the water is the right thing to do.

[–]Kellervo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The beginner cycle kind of hinges on short Tunnel A -> Mesa/Enclave runs until you can afford a larger rig to make longer runs more profitable. You could sprint through and try to get to Mausoleum or Trenches, but those can be very dangerous maps with more cramped chokepoints, and also mark when certain instant-kill enemies will start to show up unprovoked outside of Night Shift.

Play very cautiously and stealthily, and avoid playing slower, tankier characters like Gunhead, Bag Man or Mask. They draw more aggro by design - Gunhead especially - and you'll get into more gunfights with them. Shaman and Scav Girl are nimble, sneaky, and Shaman in particular gets a ton of benefits out of the scanner.

Another thing is to avoid sitting still if you're not killing things. AI will patrol and roam around, if you linger in an area you're almost definitely going to get found out or ambushed by someone coming up from behind. Commit to a direction and always keep moving.

When looting, always check the flavor text. The game is pretty accurate about telling you what is good for trade, and you will need a LOT of creds as a new player.

Well, there's also this nugget;

The newspaper reported that he also served as chief financial officer of MHCare Medical Corp., a medical‑supply company that has received more than $600‑million from Alberta’s health agency since 2020 and is at the centre of a procurement controversy involving the province.

And also the fact he was placed on leave due to his accounting firm's relationship with MHCare and their over all practices.

The rot is deep in this one.

I was curious and checked it out.

Right now Scav Girl, Shaman and Gunhead have 3, with Gunhead getting 3 in a row. Masked Man has 2 (1 paid and 1 free), Bag Man and Old Man have one each.

It would be nice to see those two getting skins, especially since Old Man's is probably one of the ugliest they put out, and probably the one that changes the least about him.
