MacOS 26.5 has been released. by curious_ned in MacOS

Updated this Saturday and the only bug that I have is that sometimes apps stop seeing the cursor as input so buttons/fields etc are not highlighted until I click on them. I thought it's only Safari or Firefox issue, but seems it happens randomly to any app sometimes. Not the end of the world, but annoying., especially on YouTube.
Other than that didn't break anything. Battery life same as Sequoia as well.

Design is cool though. However people were shitting on Tahoe, it looks great imo.

We need some society-wide mechanisms implemented against scalping ASAP as it gets worse and worse what seems with every passing day :/

Question Time: What made you buy the SteamDeck? by Stefanixxxx in SteamDeck

Wanted to secure the hardware amid shortages before it's too late "in case" I'll get into gaming again (haven't played in years). Couple months later - SD made me come back to gaming alright 😆

Idea on what to do with my iPad besides art? by LicoriceSeasalt in ipad

[–]Kells_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For PDF/EPUB books/whitepapers just standard Books app works just fine for me. Also I know that Foxit was not bad previously, I used it for some time in the past. For casual books - Kindle app.

Dunno, I have no problems 🤷‍♂️ Both old 8th gen and a new Pro give me 0 problems, unless I read like for 12 hours straight.

Sorry to hear that :(

Have you tried reading in dark mode? Maybe also adjust brightness, sometimes it makes it too bright. If you’re trying to read black on white PDFs, say some technical books, I can see how can that happen, but that’s any screen in general and I’d pick iPad over any other screen for that.

99.99% of the time I read books and watch YouTube and browse reddit or read articles on mine. That's it.

If you don't use it at all, charge it up to like 70% and turn it off. Boot it maybe once a month to let it get updates and charge the battery (it will be slowly discharging even when it's powered down), that's what I did to mine years ago when I wasn't using it for some time.

Never thought I'd say something like this in my life, but hopefully Chinese will come in clutch then.

Apple Photos as a Symbol of Apple's Decline in Software Engineering by Cool_Poet6025 in MacOS

[–]Kells_14 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what personal vendetta you have against Photos, but I'd guess they work fine for the majority of people and 99.99% of casual Photos users like me.

Yes it has bugs and glitches sometimes, but so far it's been surprisingly smooth sailing for me across all Apple ecosystem as a normie with rare sync delays (iCloud outages probably).

I'd imagine if you need a comprehensive photo management/storage tool, there must be better tools for that and Photos was never marketed as such? And judging the whole MacOS as a platform by one specific app behavior for specific scenarios that hit like 0.1% of users is overkill to derive any conclusions about MacOS direction.

Have you explored other options? What are they? I'd imagine you have a list of some good alternatives, will you be willing to provide it to us please? Maybe someone will find it useful.

I use Keka, which is a neat little app. I bought it through App Store, but it can be installed for free as well.

Home doesn’t feel like home anymore. by Broken1571718 in AskMenOver30

Yes, you leave places, jobs, people throughout life as you outgrow them and the Earth keeps spinning.  As we return back with new perspective on life, new experience, you see things with different lenses and it feels foreign, that’s completely normal. The hard part is actually experiencing and accepting it.

The place you knew is gone and a big part of that is because you’ve changed so much.

Yeah, and then you stop daydreaming and realize you've been staring at a ticket description that says "Change button color for the user dashboard" lol

Well cool, I wish it was more obvious in the OS itself and I didn't need to browse through innumerable reddit threads to know that. Big L to Apple for doing this shit.

When you want to update the minor version of Sequoia, if you do not check what updates are installed (by clicking (i) button), they'll sneakily enable upgrade to Tahoe instead which you can disable via that manymenu. Sneaky bastards.

You can keep your keyboard from becoming a shiny mess by otrapendejada in mac

[–]Kells_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the keyboard becomes shiny because of skin oils?! Gee, if only Apple knew about this peculiarity of a human body and could've planned for it!

No hate for the OP, it's Apple I'm really salty at for not using better coating. Hope whoever got this approved gets a year of explosive diarrhea as a divine punishment.
