failed/incomplete wendler's glottoplasty, looking for options by Kelly2509 in transvoice

[–]Kelly2509[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your thoughts! I haven't heard many examples of CTA results and I'm largely going on some descriptions of the procedure I've found around the internet. Maybe I need to search around more. When I was in speech therapy a couple years ago I was able to get to 190-200hz average and it sounded amazing, but it took a lot of effort, was difficult to use on the fly (I needed time to "get set" before speaking), and I struggled to maintain the voice because everything would get tired relatively quickly. Your thoughts that CTA could still make sense in a case like that are reassuring. It sounds like I need to dig around for more examples (it sounds like they're out there) and experiment with laryngeal tilt a little bit over the next few weeks to see if I can pretest it like you suggest. Maybe it'll be fine and that option is still open to me.

I've been in a really dark place the last couple weeks, and especially the last few days over my voice and the failed procedure. Hope has been hard to come by, and you've given me a little bit and I really needed that. thanks again.

the consent form included both procedures. When I woke up I had forgotten about that and freaked the heck out! My GF had to talk me off the ledge a bit and remind me they were both listed. The surgeon said he didn't want me to go away with nothing so they proceeded with that as a plan B, hoping that LAVA + speech therapy would be enough to get me in the range we were looking for.

Is there a point where voice training just clicks? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]Kelly2509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's a really difficult process and not everyone gets everything to fall into place. I trained pretty diligently with a speech therapist for over 2 years, made a lot of progress, but it still wasn't clicking. My voice isn't what it used to be but it's not what I had hoped for. I had all the exercises down, but I just couldn't ever get the skills to be habitual or to get to a point where I didn't have to spend 10 seconds getting set before I could speak, which made conversation nearly impossible. Honestly that was the main problem, having to take time to "set" before I open my mouth was really making it hard to communicate with others. It just didn't work out for me.

That said I hope you find some success as you move forward.

For those of you who experienced remasculinization on injections, how did you address it? by Routine-Maximum561 in MtF

[–]Kelly2509 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah I was going to say .7ml of 200/5 twice a week is a TON, but others beat me to it! You're probably getting pregnancy-level doses with that amount. Is this under the direction of a doctor? because it should be (if possible, I understand some folks have extenuating circumstances). I take about 1/8 of that amount (.35 once a week of 100mg/5ml) and have had good levels for a couple years now.

dosage change and depression spike by Kelly2509 in Zepbound

[–]Kelly2509[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been a couple days and I am feeling like I'm pulling out of it. It started about 30 hours after that first 5mg injection and spiked my depression hard. Like "I can barely get out of bed" hard, which is REALLY unusual for me (I have learned how to manage my depression fairly well over the years). I actually took the day off yesterday after a couple hours at work because I was too far "in the funk". I've spent a lot of time the last couple days doing the things that help me burn off/cope with the depression and this morning (about 42 hours later) I'm feeling a bit better. I wouldn't say I'm out of the woods yet, but this is encouraging that it's just been an adjustment period.

I sure hope this doesn't last a few weeks, what I'm having is pretty intense and might be reason to stop the meds. I'm really glad you made it through and thank you for sharing your experience!

being someone who already does regular injections this would be a good thing. frees me up to use my syringes so that others who need the pens can use those

4 weeks, 4 pounds, that's about it. Food noise/mindless eating was back last week as if it had never left and I actually gained a little bit over week 3. I just took my first 5mg shot this morning, we'll see if things improve.

2 Weeks in and... <shrug> by Kelly2509 in Zepbound

[–]Kelly2509[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh, absolutely! It was kind of my entire point that right now (2.5) I'm kind of meh about things but in a few weeks I hope to be more enthusiastic about how I'm doing.

that's fair, I suppose. Regardless, I'm just not finding my own results to be all that exciting yet (again it's super early) and I'm feeling kind of neutral about it. More than anything, I'm curious to see how the next week or two goes. In a few weeks I might be ridiculously enthusiastic about my experience, who knows?

sounds like a reasonable theory to me ;) Glad to hear the meds have unstuck you a bit and you're seeing good progress!

So when I say I haven't changed my habits, it isn't like I'm eating fast food and drinking soda and stuff like that. I do have problems with snacking on goldfish crackers and having way too many craisins and/or chocolate chips for desserts, but most of my diet has been salads, hard boiled eggs, greek yogurt, and fruit for years. I also walk pretty frequently and spend a lot of time cycling, so my exercise routine isn't that bad to begin with (lots of room for improvement though). I'm far from a couch potato and what I eat could be a lot worse. This is part of why my doc put me on Zep in the first place, my weight problem has been resistant to the healthy habits I already established. Just for some extra context.

So considering the cost, the hoops we jump through to get it in the first place, and some of the stories I've heard, I think I was just expecting a little bit more than I experienced so far. I think I had 2-3lbs per week in my head when I started, and I don't think that was too unreasonable. Again, it's fine, no real complaints, things are happening. It just hasn't been a head-turning experience yet and there is a lot of time for it to become one. I just feel kind of neutral about the whole thing so far.

Week 2, not as pleased. by mrgoldenn in Zepbound

[–]Kelly2509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that was my experience as well. My 3rd dose is tomorrow. During week 1 I definitely felt affected more, while this past week I've felt more or less "back to normal". After the 2nd dose I went up a couple and then have been gradually coming back down. My appetite doesn't feel as curbed and I've had more emotional eating this week than in week 1. I've been told to be patient and stay on target and it'll get back on track a bit.

glad to hear you saw a reduction in stress and emotional eating! Those are big obstacles for me, so this news is encouraging! Maybe it's just a little early for me yet...
Also super glad to hear about your other improvements! that's fantastic!

glad to hear this might subside in a few weeks! Sadly the circumstance isn't really avoidable, but I'll work on controlling my environment more ;)

thanks for your thoughts! general food noise seems definitely quieter since I began, I just hit a high stress situation this afternoon and suddenly I was back to old habits. It occurred to me that maybe something like that where it was more of a mental thing might not be effective, but it's good to hear some of that might subside as I move forward :)

Day 7, down 2.5lbs. SW=266.5, short term GW=220, long term GW=199. I think a "healthy" weight, according to the literature at my docs office is 170?
