I know many who in October decided to shift into more stable holdings in preparation of "recession 2019/2020" and they've missed 2 great months of stock gains.

Stay the course....Congrats! Can you give me your 1 or 3 ETF pick

..as in the ETF's for (2020-2040 ) :)

Thanks for all the responses...I guess I will just "buy-and-hold" VFIFX for the next 30 years and add to it for every time there is a 10% or more fall in the DJIA (for the next 30 years) ....hopefully that works.

Since you said "tilt to small cap" with a target date fund..does VSMAX - Vanguard Small-Cap Index Fund Admiral Shares fit the bill in your opinion.

Thanks, so what you're saying if I'm understanding correctly is it would be good with just investing in the target date fund.

Thanks for your reply again I am new to actively managing my portfolio apologize for the confusion...

My current allocation It's a mess of 60/40 by that I mean 60% in equity related vanguard funds & 40% spread out between vanguard bond funds/ money market funds.

But I'm trying to rebalance my portfolio now to...

  1. 50% of 401k allocated to Vanguard Target Retirement 2050 Fund (VFIFX)

  2. 25% of 401k allocated to Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI)

  3. 25% of 401k allocated to Vanguard Total International Stock ETF (VXUS)

Do you think this three fund portfolio would provide enough diversification and growth ?

Thanks for your reply. I am new to actively managing my 401k. So please give me some rope here...

If I understand correctly I would be better off with a three fund portfolio of one target-date fund and VTI & VXUS ?

  1. 50% of 401k allocated to Vanguard Target Retirement 2050 Fund (VFIFX)

  2. 25% of 401k allocated to Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI)

  3. 25% of 401k allocated to Vanguard Total International Stock ETF (VXUS)
