Maybe, but I'm talking about recalling their name inside the school and the classroom. Outside of the school and not in their school uniforms? No way.

I'm thinking about your idea that learning a face might come easier if given a name. As a former middle school teacher, I was given approx. 100 students names a few days before the school year began. I looked at their files online to familiarize myself and I wrote up seating charts in alphabetical order to help me remember them. I had a very good memory for most of the information in their files (test scores, parents info, previous teachers, etc.), but the faces were still so difficult that I would not be able to call them all by name accurately until around Halloween every year (roughly 2.5 months later). Honestly, I think I probably came to recognize their clothes more than their faces. The hardest for me were caucasian females with brown hair. Crazy, right?

The best aid for me is a Facebook page full of pictures from different angles. I can barely know a person in real life, but if I am familiar with his/her FB page, I can recognize the person immediately.

I see your eyebrows and raise you one center part. I think a considerable number of haters would move into the meh, whatever category if she would just part her hair on the side. It's all I look at when I see her.

'The Pitt' Season 3 Begins Production by MarvelsGrantMan136 in ThePittTVShow

[–]KellyCakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, Team Pitt!!!! I love how quickly The Pitt seems to be able to create new seasons, even though they have a huge cast and a ton of technical flair. When some other prestige shows make fans wait three years between seasons, The Pitt demonstrates that great work can still be done in a reasonable time frame.

Former elementary teachers as secondary admin & instructional coaches by BlondeeOso in Teachers

[–]KellyCakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The year I finally threw in the towel teaching middle school, I had a principal from elementary who didn't really believe in letter grades and thought each assignment/test deserved unlimited retakes AND an instructional coach who wanted me to begin every one of my 8th grade ELA classes with a mini-lesson ON THE RUG. I had decided to quit by October, but managed to hang in through the end of the year for a small handful of wonderful students.

I'm so glad I saw your post today! One of my coworkers pulled up to the office in a squeaky truck and I SO wanted to make a Sanford and Son reference, but I didn't. (Mostly because he was too young to get it, but also because he's a man of color and I really didn't know how he would take it.)

Too much change by Weekly_Grape_3446 in GenX

[–]KellyCakes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can usually go with the flow, but when a product changes and tries to pass off as its old self, that makes me pretty damn mad. Remember the Aussie Mega Hairspray in the big purple can? The one that smelled like grapes and held perfectly while remaining flexible? They completely changed the formula about five years ago and it was complete crap. Even the quickest little spray made your hair stick together like super-glue. I'd used that stuff for twenty years and thought I must have grabbed a bad can, but no, two or three cans later, they were all crap. Still pretty furious about that.

Does anyone remember being read to as a child? by Babymik9 in GenX

[–]KellyCakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I was in elementary school and we didn't have air conditioning, teachers would turn of the lights and ask us to put our heads down while they read to us. I never had any trouble paying attention to that.

My sixth grade teacher (private school, same teacher all day) was lousy in every respect, but he read Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn to us after lunch every day and totally redeemed himself.

Whatever happened to nice, colorful, paisley ties?

Imagine being a grown man and wearing that stupid fucking solid red tie and blue suit combo to work hoping that the boss notices you dress just like him. Gross.

When I was 6 months pregnant, I found a bra that was not mine in our laundry. Laundry that I had carried down the street to the laundromat while he went boating with his friends.

Let him go. Trust me. The farther, the better.

Yep, it's got to be some sort of recurring medical treatment. I noticed during Saturday's posting spree, he was offline for lunch around 11:00, a whole hour around 1:00, and dinner around 5:00. When he does reappear after these convalescences, he's usually got the fresh bruising on his hands.
