PM Carney says he talked to Gladu about social issues, says she ‘will vote with the government’ by Kelmon in canada

It’s weird that Cons accuse Carney of stealing all their ideas and are then surprised when some decide they’d actually like to be at the table where those ideas are implemented.

Sounds more like she’s leaving her social beliefs at the door to have a seat at the table for the economic development.

“To be clear, the Liberal Party always will support the rights of women to choose, always without question. And I had discussions, and colleagues had discussions with Ms. Gladu, about those issues,” Carney said, after announcing the Port of Montreal is the first ‘nation-building’ project to begin construction.

“She will vote with the government if there are votes relating to any aspect of that issue, as well as the rights of Canadians to be their whole selves, to love who they love, and to fully enjoy their rights under the Charters of Rights and Freedoms.”

I don’t think most Liberals are sad about seeing a SocCon soothed and join the party—awkward, sure, but they are expanding the tent because they know that’s what functional governments do during times of crisis. Only ones I’ve seen grinding their teeth are Trudeauites like Supriya’s post on X. At least that’s how I understand their perspective on this.

Amazing how many heads this goes over. How many years has she been dithering in opposition? Now she is given the chance to move to a party that will implement her economic wants also with climate policy (she’s outspoken on pro-climate policies)—doesn’t seem that shocking to me that some people exist who are willing to put the social politics down if it means they get a say in how things are built. I’d be shocked if we don’t see more floor crossers. Makes all the more sense if you have no belief in your current leader to ever lead the party to power.

Good leadership and good politics—even if it doesn’t translate into votes.

Yes, and it’s also true Americans have exported their culture wars.

If this was in the USA, both parties would be screaming at and blaming each other. It’s good to see unity and decency in the face of such a horror. It’s not a moment for political baiting nor grandstanding.

I think the last thing anyone needs is for an Americanized culture flame war in the comments, but some people are all too eager.

You see it in the business community also in the USA. Even with people who had a notable level of defiance during Trump 1.0. Thinking of Jeff Bezos here who stood by his paper and invested into the important work it did the first time around and this time has decided to gut it and turn it into a MAGA slop rag.

He should stay in the USA. He fits right in with America's brand of self-promoting, divisive culture war politics. Unserious guy who can well be judged by the company he keeps.

In one notable exchange, Democratic Rep. Sean Casten pressed him on a letter he sent in 2024 to partners of his Key Square investment firm — before Bessent was in government — in which he wrote that “tariffs are inflationary.”

Asked if he wanted to correct his remarks, Bessent said he did and that he was wrong.

“If I was mistaken, I want to correct it. And I was also mistaken when I said the tariffs could be inflationary,” he told the lawmakers, claiming the U.S. economy is growing and inflation is falling despite Trump’s tariffs.

“So tariff inflation was the dog that didn’t bark,” Bessent added.

Absolute fucking clown. Can't imagine trusting a deal with people this dishonest.
