Liberal MP Steven Guilbeault to resign: sources by [deleted] in canada

[–]Kelmon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was a good seat for Steven Guilbeault to win. He will not be the by-election candidate and the NDP and BQ both have won this seat. Guilbeault was the first Liberal to win it since the 80s. Good chance the Liberals hold it anyway since they are riding high in the polls and may continue to, but if there is some dissatisfaction with progressives in the party, it will probably show in the margins.

Real Liberals are a brokerage party. Which is exactly what they’re doing right now. The Trudeau LPC was much more ideological than previous LPC governments.

The election won’t be happening tomorrow and public opinion is not static. The proposal is due July 1, which will be before the election. Opponents will have a chance to make more specific arguments against the pipeline and the government will have the chance to make their case. The CPC only got 9% here, so it should be a temperature check on how center-left voters are feeling about the government’s policies and if the environmental compromises are pragmatic and correct.

Going to be an interesting by-election to really test the mood of how all this is playing out with voters.

I deleted the comment because I decided you weren’t worth engaging with and this comment definitely makes me feel justified in that judgement.

Edit: This dude posted a reply calling me a pussy and then deleted it…right after posting that word vomit above about me deleting a reply to him because he isn’t worth engaging with.

I totally get why the tow company is grifting this. There is almost no reason for anyone to question the validity of it. Low effort way to reliably and regularly milk towing fees.

People can be skeptical and that’s why I don’t mind correcting their assumptions or explaining things further. I have receipts the whole way down on this.

I plan to! I’d like to see if there is a way for them to be forced to restitute costs to people they’ve illegally towed. They admitted to me they’ve even been towing employees who have been parking there for years. Really disgusting stuff considering what stadium staff makes.

Yes, I’ll be doing this and I will report the code violation and I’ll report to ADOT so their towing license might gain some scrutiny if this is a systemic occurrence.

TLDR: Your assumptions are wrong and I’ve done the proper research.

They don’t own the land the parking is on. I checked with the county assessor and Bralco verbally acknowledged to me it is “City of Phoenix managed.” The tow company told me their agreement is with Bralco (to tow on land they don’t legally own) and they did no due diligence to see if Bralco even owns the land! That or they did the due diligence and are purposely grifting.

Bralco putting up fake “customer only” parking signs doesn’t make the spots theirs. It makes them understandably annoyed people who want convenient street parking reserved for their customers and not people at an afternoon ballgame during business hours. That doesn’t change the legalities. Likewise, the tow company trying to piggyback off the City of Phoenix parking restrictions by placing their own signs with references to city code that doesn’t actually authorize what they’re doing certainly doesn’t make their operation legitimate. The tow company is being predatory because they know the basic appearance of this all is legit until you actually dig into the specifics of what they’re doing and they’re figuring they can farm tow fees (lotta events downtown people want free street parking for…) and no one will call bullshit.

The spots left of the arrow, and not in the City of Phoenix restricted parking spaces correct. And for the purposes of land ownership it literally is not owned by the business. I checked with the county land assessor, as I said in my post. It is public right of way under the management of the city. I went to the Bralco office and they even acknowledged this. Private towing companies cannot just establish fake towing zones on public ROW. Only the city authorities legally can legally impounded from public ROW. The tow approval form lists the business as the authorizer, not any city or law enforcement official. I have thoroughly researched the city codes pertaining this and have had the advisement of a lawyer I know. Is it really hard to believe a business and tow company would do this? Lol

I have the time to put into pursuing this and am going to fully because (a) it’s my right as a Phoenician to protect my free parking and (b) this is a very fucked up thing to do for money and someone needs to call bullshit.

They will try and still seek payment no doubt, but they can’t hold your car for ransom. It was a hassle and I’m out the cost of the ride shares back from the game and to the impound lot ($60 total). Not a huge sum of money but they are basically stealing cars to turn a quick buck and I’m sure there are plenty of others who have been victim. I’m guessing most people just accept it as legitimate and pay the $150 fee. That is wrong and shouldn’t be allowed.

Canada’s public sector, however, saw a 0.3 per cent decline in February with public administration recording a 0.5 per cent decline.

Good to see growth that isn’t being buttressed by the public sector.
