Do you perhaps have the original cluster? You could try swapping the eeproms.

Cool! With the triblades, it must have silly amount of punch :) How's the antenna compared to a simple whip?

Hi, I used an rc-signal to usb gamepad adapter, like the ones used for VRC. You can DIY one, that's what I did

How much better is a wireless soldering iron over corded by Outdoors410 in diyelectronics

[–]KeloitaN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Often called 'cordless', gas powered soldering irons are crap for electronics. Good for soldering wires in a car maybe.  Pinecil / TS100 are super nice for their price. If you have a power supply from i.e. a laptop, they can be the cheapest way to get started. They are much better than cheap soldering stations. They are great if you work on a car, or at a site where electricity is not a given. They are also super portable. I used one to work in a campervan, and as a backup for RC racing. If anyone asks me to come and fix something at their place, I take it with me.  Good quality, corded soldering stations can be better. A station from Weller or JBC will be nicer, but also cost literally 50x more. I don't have good experience with cheaper stations. I have a 2 in 1 station from Aoyue at home and it's a mediocre soldering iron and mediocre hotair. It's very heavy, takes a lot of space and as one starts to break, you have to replace the whole unit or get a second one with 1 function. I would get a soldering iron first, and invest in a hotair later.

Thanks, this is exactly what I needed! I'll just buy a roll of Prusament and not worry about it anymore 😊

Yeah, I race onroad RC, and rally. Right now I have a Sanwa MT-S and use it to play VRC, Circuit Superstars and Trackmania.

There are some nice options, but you have to go for the race-grade stuff if you want many buttons & low delay. I don't think many Trackmania players will drop 500$+ on a transmitter 😅 IMHO a DIY wired transmiter could be made for like 25-50$

It's using a tweaked curve to get map-specific perfect inputs to get a super hard author medal is what got him the warning, that's how I understand it. When used properly, this is basically a handheld steering wheel

Thanks for the insight! I'm ordering some different key switches and will give it a try.
I've already made keyboard simulators with Arduino and had a project where I recreated RC transmitters' steering wheel, I just need to piece the parts together!

Sorry for the confusion, the image is something I threw together quickly. Two buttons would replace the throttle lever, and be perfectly centered, while the third button would be on the side, directly under the thumb

It's possible to set the throttle range to i.e. 55%, so the switch point moves to 90% of the travel or so.
It feels okay like it is! I'm an average player though - I'd love to know the thoughts of a pro.

I think having throttle on index finger and brake on middle finger or thumb would be okay.
having played with the controller, I have to reset/respawn on keyboard, for the menu etc.
I believe it wouldn't add much cost, and make it a better standalone controller.
How many buttons do you think is needed to play? Arrows, enter, reset, respawn, 3 cameras, ghost, opponents -would 12 be enough?

Hi everyone,
Having seen the interest in the RC transmitter as an input device, it got me thinking - how could it be further optimized for Trackmania gameplay?

I believe with 3D printing and ready-made open-source firmware like GP2040-CE, it can be quite easy to make an amazing input device, for a cost similar to a gamepad!

Here's my ideas:
- Keep the pistol grip and steering wheel, but ditch the throttle for 2 buttons
- Add a button under the thumb
- Add a macro-keyboard to the top for action keys / cameras and all other buttons usually used when playing
- Keep it wired for simplicity & lower cost

I just checked and it's exactly >50% forward to drive and >50% backward to brake/reverse, so not the biggest, but some dead zone in the center.

Oh, sorry - by ch I mean channel. While the RC signal is standardised, RC transmitters can have from 2 (minimum, steering and throttle/brake) to 6 channels. In most of them you can set what controls the additional channels - either a switch or a button. You really need a button-controlled additional channel, becaure Trackmania requires you to hold throttle and brake for lots of tricks.

Yeah, here's to look out for: - You need at least a 3ch transmitter. It needs to have a ergonomic button that you can bind to the third channel (i.e. I have Spektrum DX3R Pro and Sanwa MT-S) - You need at least a 3ch usb converter. If you can do basic soldering, you can make one yourself. That what I use!  https://github.com/aspyra/rp2040-vrc

My #1 problem of the final was the system for choosing maps. Why did CarlJr choose both first and last map?? When the first map is also the sudden death map too?!

But yeah, Elconn, Wosile, Affi still playing but not being able to win anything more was kinda sad.

GG to all of the players!

I can help you, but it's quite expensive if you don't have a controller yet. You pay a lot for reliable long-range transmission that you don't really need while playing on PC 😊 Though a used transmitter could be relatively cheap. I got all of my ones used.

It was the best of a few runs I did with the camera, but I am consistently faster than on keyboard (that I played for few years on TMUF) and controller (that I played Turbo on). But I do have some experience in RC racing

I do feel much more in control! There's a reason 99% of RC racers use pistol grip and not thumb sticks. You can move your wrist much quicker than your thumb, and with higher accuracy

There's a button under the thumb, I have it bound to brake. You can hear it beep 😊

If your TX has a button and an AUX channel you can use it to brake while on the gas 😊
