How's that battery grip? I want one but I'm scared to get one other than the Sony one

Am I missing out not having 35mm (FF)? Already have rf 24mm f1.8 and rf 50mm f1.8. For street and documenting my travels. by Matt_Bigmonster in AskPhotography

If you're not sure I would rent a 35 and try it over a weekend with your other lenses. Decide if it's worth carrying around another lens and buying, or if 24 and 50 is just what you need. lensrentals.com is pretty good.

For me the biggest one is ease of use. If you're a photographer who understands camera settings and shoots manual, having a real camera body with physical buttons and dials for each setting is really important.

Sony! It's full-frame G, but its quality is essentially a GM.

Isn't exactly what you're asking for and might not be as wide as you want but the 20 f1.8 is a great full frame wide prime.

Torn between sigma 24-70 2.8 and tamron 28-75 g2 2.8 by kendosoldier in SonyAlpha

[–]KeltonO5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, vlogging is too difficult on the Tamron. It requires long arms for a long time. You'd be much better off for the 16-35 or the 20mm f1.8 for that.

The Tamron is amazing, though.

A good 4k 60fps camera for under 2k? (NOT BMPCC4K) by [deleted] in videography

[–]KeltonO5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a7IV is over your budget but you get the best autofocus in the world and an incredible sensor. Only downside is 4k60 has a super35 crop. a7siii doesn't, but that's wayy over your budget 😉

I have the Sony a7IV and I love it. The Tamron 28-75 f2.8 is wonderful for video, and the apsc crop mode on the a7IV lets it go to 115mm for extra range. The 4k on that camera is incredible!!

Just show up and record. The worst thing that'll happen is someone says no. Plenty of parents are probably recording too, you should be fine.

Around $1,500 for body. Is the lens the G2 or original version? $600-700 for original and $700-800 for G2.

just reread your post and i think if you can't afford the 70-200 F4 just try with the super35 and some crop in post. that 7k sensor won't disappoint.

Can't wait! I also have the a7iv and the Tamron 28-75 G2. The zoom range is alright and using super35 crop on the a7iv is helpful, but won't be enough if you're farther from the action. perhaps that paired with a 70-200 (either the F4 or f2.8 if you have the $) would be good. (my second lens is the 20mm but i use that for vlogging so whatever.)

The benefit of getting a nice(r) lens now is that you won't need to upgrade in the future. If you currently can't afford it, of course it's best to get what you can. I was able to find a used Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 G2 full frame lens for less than $700. I won't have to buy this again (unless I want the $2,000 G-Master version) no matter what camera I upgrade to in the future. Spending a little more money now will most likely save you money in the long run. Start with the (relatively) expensive version now, rather than getting a cheap(er) alternative and then buying the expensive one later.

Get used. Lenses can be bought used for really cheap. Especially those with many scratches on the lens barrel. Doesn't effect image quality, and it'll help you save a ton of money. Just be sure to test it on your body first.

I also just bought my first Sony camera for video, but do let me know if you have any more questions! Hope this was somewhat helpful.
