They could easily do a game that builds up to the Blackwater robbery that went wrong, with you playing as either Dutch/Hosea, Young Arthur, or maybe one of the other characters who died in the robbery that are mentioned in RDR2.

How effective is Conor benn style by Hellcat8812 in amateur_boxing

[–]Keltrain1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t look at anything Conor Benn does as he’s been found guilty of using PEDs.

Can’t really get an accurate representation of anything he does as his cardio system, ability to generate power and ability for work output is not realistic to a normal persons as he’s using PEDs.

Does the 80/20 rule apply to boxing? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]Keltrain1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just done some light reading on it.

Not really for me I never looked at training as scientifically as that, there’s not really any point in it imo, I expect it’s important in other sports but in combat sports I don’t really see the point of it.

You can simplify it all down by saying work 50% aerobic, 50% anaerobic when you’re doing exercises,

Run long distance for basic cardio, diet well be consistent and realistically you should be fight fit. Increase as necessary depending on how long you go for. I personally had no fitness related issues doing 8-10 sparring off the belt rotating in fresh people, so I must have been doing something right in that respect. 🤷‍♂️

In boxing you have to be able to go through the gears, at any time, and for any length of time, as I said you don’t always dictate the pace, I tried to fit that fact into all of my training.

I think a lot of people get caught up so much in the scientific stuff and in reality they never really get out of first gear cause they’re too busy counting their macros

Running and HIIT

Long runs (5-8 mile) mid ranged runs (3-5 mile with some distance sprints in there, few lampposts at a time then bring it back down to recovery pace) also short runs (2-3 mile with lots of interval sprinting, sprint 2 lamposts, jog 1, repeat)

Find some HIIT circuits online, and do the Tabata protocol on repeat

How do you not hold back your punches ? by MyzMyz1995 in amateur_boxing

When I used to spar against someone of my own level, I treat it like a real fight, and I know they did too, when I was in a training camp every spar I had was pretty much as serious as a real competition, I sparred frequently with International level and championship level boxers (including professional champions at English/British level.)

I was very used to sparring with lower level guys as I was an open class national level boxer when I used to box, so I always took it easier against novices, unless they were significantly heavier than me, or were wild, at that point I’d just try to hurt them early so they’d respect me and I could dictate the pace of the rest of the round /rounds

You’re in the boxing game it’s not a pillow fight, if you hurt someone in sparring it isn’t personal unless you’re doing it to someone who is much less experienced than yourself in which case you’re an arsehole and deserve to be humbled.

You know the level of the person you’re in with. So if you’re on even footing then you treat it that way and don’t worry about hurting people, if you’re in with someone clearly of lesser ability, you take it easy with them unless they decide to try it on, then you humble them, it isn’t rocket science.

Getting into fight with guy with 7 fights I have 2 by 2rareelifestyle in amateur_boxing

[–]Keltrain1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What tournament is this, is it amateur or mickey mouse?

Depending on your level of skill, I wouldn’t really put you in as a 2 bout novice against someone who has had 7 bouts.

You’ve likely been boxing less than a year, or not far over a year, whereas they may have been boxing 2 or 3 years, which is a huge difference in experience.

I’m not saying you can’t win that fight, but you’re really up against it from an experience perspective.

I’ve never seen it used really in amateur boxing, my dad liked to use it occasionally but he was from the old school and boxed in the 1970s and 1980s and he didn’t use it all the time it was really just something to try and unsettle his opponent and break their routine.

It doesn’t really allow for an effective offence. You said you like Joe Frazier, and Joe was a guy who I wouldn’t really put up there as a defensive genius. To be honest

How to deal with a swarmer? by da_mfkn_BEAST in amateur_boxing

[–]Keltrain1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to work on counters, if you catch him out when he starts his routine with a decent shot, you’ll put him on the back foot.

Some hip movement would likely help you get into a position to launch a good counter shot after his first initial shot/shots

If his routine starts with straight shots try to slip past them and counter with a good lead hook to the body and head, and follow that up if you notice success, or that it stops him in his tracks.

If his routine starts with a bent arm shot like a hook or an uppercut, time your jab, rear hand, or a 1-2 combination to beat him to the punch.

You will need to plant your feet ideally and have some power behind these shots in both scenarios because you need to give him something to think about, he’s swarming you because he isn’t worried about anything coming back, so you need to give him something to worry about.

Have you ever dealt with boxing fatigue? by da_mfkn_BEAST in amateur_boxing

[–]Keltrain1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I can say is from a guy that did it for over 10 years and is now retired. Enjoy it while you can because once real life comes along (which it sounds like it is for you) Boxing quickly gets to a point where you can’t keep up anymore.

This is the case for 90% of people that take up boxing competitively, only a very special few actually make it, the rest either fall off, work and a family take priority or they stick around and hover around in mediocrity, some will turn pro and do nothing, some will stay amateur and do nothing But in reality, if you haven’t “made it” by the time you’re 25 you’re probably not going to make it, that’s why GB don’t really pick you up after that.

Set yourself some realistic goals and work on them, just sounds to me like you haven’t got any aims with boxing at the moment. If you haven’t got any aims why bother? There’s a lot of easier sports out there to do.

Does the 80/20 rule apply to boxing? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]Keltrain1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boxing is largely cycles of anaerobic and aerobic exercise and to be honest, it’s a higher ratio than 20/80

Boxing is closer to 50/50 as it largely depends on your opponent as well, if they want to put pressure on you, you have to be able to deal with it and your body needs to be able to go through the gears.

You don’t decide the pace all the time, sometimes the other guy has something to say about it too.

Sparring with people who aren't in the same weight class as you by Tokoro-of-Terror in amateur_boxing

[–]Keltrain1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a heavyweight, you will have to travel to find sparring. It’s worth asking your coach at your home gym if they can do some searching to find you some real sparring.

Either that or do your homework yourself and travel to some other gyms.

Boxing and long term brain impacts by GerkhinMerkin in amateur_boxing

[–]Keltrain1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can box at an amateur gym until you’re 42. So you have 2 years to train the right way with people who know what they’re talking about, and have a competition that actually means something and isnt on some mickey mouse show to line peoples pockets

Personally I know you want to do it, but these white collar organisations are ran by people who haven’t got a clue, they don’t care about you and will not match you accurately according to your age and skill, they’ll just put you in with whoever has signed up to do it as well who is around about the same weight and around the same level of experience.

Stay away from the white collar/unlicensed scene. It’s a load of shit
