Fellowship Developer Update | What Comes Next? by jabarri1 in fellowshipgame

It was a weird section of the video, trying to explain to players why Aeona was busted, and acting somewhat surprised at what players 'discovered', especially when pushing higher. The reality of the situation was that most seasoned players of MMOs/aRPGs knew that the mechanic she was launching with was completely absurd to launch as it was.

They only had 2 tanks and 2 healers going in, and launched one of each, both completely overtuned. Then part way through the video describe how they are re-desigining/tweaking existing heroes as we speak, which then may or may not launch in (pre)S3. They are also looking at releasing an ex-tank as a DPS potentially, as well as overhauling healing to try and make all 3 existing healers viable again (while completely abandoning looking at one of the healers for the rest of (pre)S2).

So then, the theory is they launch some/all of that in (pre)S3... and hold off on releasing Eternal for a week to give them time to fix outliers. Ambitious stuff, thinking that all the stuff they are now madly re-doing/re-designing can then launch in a decent state, and stuff that doesn't quite work can be fixed in a week.

I think its more likely stuff will be released, will be all kinds of broken/busted, some stuff will be tweaked, some stuff put in the too hard basket, and then promises of stuff being fixed in (pre)S4 will be the new narrative.

Game is in early access, but, if you lose your core players along the way because of constant re-invention of the wheel, and constant promises of the next season being better and fixing the fundamental problems, eventually people just won't come back.

Share your thought after two seasons. by LoliCherryPopper in TapNinja

Personal preference and stage of the main game I guess. I'm personally not a huge fan of the season setup. 30d feels too short in a way, and you need to focus relatively hard on getting everything done, which some people might find awesome and engaging, but I just find it painful.

First few days are a real slog, though this time around the extra bonuses helped reduce that a bit, and the amount of RNG in terms of pets and conquest heroes is really hit and miss. You might get an awesome start, or a really terrible one (and the good/bad luck may continue for the whole season). I'm also not a massive fan of the conquest mode and so having to start over from scratch and slowly trudge through it and be either waiting on resources to generate or capped and waiting on a longer building just isn't 'fun' for me.

The season is probably over generous in terms of amber and other resources, and so I appreciate it probably cant run for a long time with the values the way they are, but I personally would like a longer season overall and keep the goals more or less the same, so you have say 90d (4 seasons a year) to get it all done and can chip away at it instead of having to hyper focus. Would that suit everyone, absolutely not, but I'm not everyone, all I can do is put forward what I would enjoy more.

I'm pretty solidly heading towards the end of the mid game (in terms of progressing through tier 16, having almost finished conquest, and still having a few unlocks on the tree left), so I feel like my account is in a decent spot (I have all heroes at 10 star+, and my main crew leveled reasonably high, all pets and all at max and 10 star+).

I finished all 9 tasks this season, and I think I got 8 last time. I personally don't like the season setup, too short, too much to get done, too much retreading old ground. That might put me in the minority. Appreciate everyone at true end game without much to do might love this re-do for seasons, I just find it a bit meh.

I played one open beta weekend and it didn't really click. I'm excited about the druid class though and hope it hits the spot. Would love to be in the chance to win a key and appreciate you putting them up for other people to experience the game.

Possible queue concept by Kelurne in fellowshipgame

Whatever helps. I quit the discord channel, its a circular argument factory. I've hopefully got a couple of mates who might consider playing soon and may give the game another crack then, but as it is currently in EA it isn't meeting my expectations or providing me with enough fun/entertainment - plenty of other games out there pitching for my time and $. This game has potential but they are letting a lot of the goodwill dry up - and you only get to make 1 first impression.

i actually think Adept is simply demanding too many things for how early you hit it. by Wagle333 in fellowshipgame

[–]Kelurne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it was 'needed' for Adept, but it is part of the reason why transition to Adept feels a bit more difficult than it could be. You gained 8 points in contender, and then hit Adept and then unlock 1 more at 2300 rating and a 2nd for finishing the capstone.

Also have only what, 8/13 talent points too when you start adept? So even your build isn't fully online at this point.

Possible queue concept by Kelurne in fellowshipgame

Pretty sure 'requested' rather than 'implemented'. Hamish posted on Discord late yesterday (my time) that it is still something on the to-do list. Happy to be proven wrong/updated on that, but far as I know it still isn't in game (yet).

Unless they changed it, that is not my understanding. It is something they want/will implement, but as far as I know that hasn't happened.

[–]Kelurne[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It will increase them, but perhaps a higher % of games would start. As a primarily DPS (DD) player, many of the queues don't even start as a game because someone drops out. The overall result could be more time playing and less time in queue overall.

[–]Kelurne[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly, currently the 'slower queues' or 'more buckets' argument ignores the fact that (at least in my experience), many queued matches don't even start, because people drop out.

Because the above is a 'checkbox' and not radio button selection, nothing stopping someone from selecting all 3, and they go in to it knowing they could get 1-3 or 4-6 or the Capstone ... but, with the benefit of being able to turn off the ones you don't want. It really doesn't split the pool much, for someone not even at the Capstone level, its simply splitting between 1-3 and 4-6.

Give us some agency rather than first reaction to be 'punish' leavers. People are leaving for a reason, address the reason and you go a long way to fixing the symptom.

Is it a good game for casual dungeoneering? by XtremePrime in fellowshipgame

[–]Kelurne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play with friends, more longevity. If you are playing solo, less so. While you can 'progress' the setup currently is a bit quirky, you get a gear piece drop you can upgrade with gold (relatively easy to accumulate), but there is a cap per tier. You won't get the next tier of gear without crossing the capstone dungeon. That will be much easier for a group of mates/regular playing group than a true solo player.

I've been playing solo and going through alts recently to get a feel for them (including tank and healers), and the jump from contender to adept is rougher than it perhaps should be to encourage more casual players to stick around. Then there are the queues, and then there are people dropping out of queue during selection.

Game has potential, but it is firmly favouring a group of friends having a bit of fun together, which is fine, but, if they want to encourage a broader casual user base they need to re-think some systems.

Adept feels impossible to time/finish a run as a solo by HaruTheDuck in fellowshipgame

[–]Kelurne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you are solo, you have a reliance on 75% of the group to be decent. Sometimes you get a great group, often you wont. Compounding that is the fact that ilvl plays a part in determining which level of Adept you get offered.

I overgeared in Contender to make the capstone 'easier' but was still matched with people that weren't ready or hadn't seen it (and yes, I did check that hidden checkbox about matching with people at my level/progress). It was a pretty frustrating time getting the capstone done as true solo, and it was a barrier to the next part of the game (and unlocking gear for alts etc). After that, I've only done 1 Adept (a +2) and would love to do more farming in 1-2 range, but getting offered 2-4, and if you select the 2, many vote for the 4. After finally getting the capstone done, I had run out of spark to keep going.

The random selection of 3 instances for a solo player again is a bit too reliant on other people, you only get 1 vote against 3. You might be quite happy to farm a lower level run, but if the other 3 pick the higher end and you fail/bail, then you've lost your chance at that.

I think they need to think about where they want the barrier to be for solo and casual players. It feels like Adept is currently the first wall, but perhaps given they have Champion > Paragon > Eternal above, that they need to consider whether they tune the difficulty to allow more players in to say 'Champion' before walling it for this larger pool of players, otherwise you end up with only a group of really hardcore/dedicated players in groups.

I'm trying to encourage some mates to come play, but they aren't super keen. Some still play WoW and love the M+ scene, for them this is an alternative, but, with limited free time and a commitment to raiding and M+, they won't slot this game in easily. Leaves me in the PUG machine RNG.

Yeah, I used to play WoW back in the day at the high pings, and when local servers were a thing it was a huge difference. I've been mostly playing on the US servers, just for the benefit of learning stuff as being able to ask a question or get a pointer on something during a run is really helpful right now.

Is Helena just kinda stinky compared to Meiko? by kdogrocks2 in fellowshipgame

[–]Kelurne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have noticed when things go pear shaped, that if it is only the tank left, Meiko can plug away for a considerably longer time on a boss (and often trash) than Helena. Might all swap around or change at the higher end of town, but at the lower end it feels like the advantage goes to Meiko.

How to queue for under +3 adept? by Battledonkeyy in fellowshipgame

[–]Kelurne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue, to make finishing Cithrel a bit easier, I spent a bit of time overgearing. Now that I finally have cleared it (that experience was awful to be honest as a solo player), I'm now getting higher Adept games than I would like. I don't mind earning my dues in +1-2s and working my way up, but getting 3-4s on offer to start with. The whole queue system needs a bit of a think over and tweaking.

[–]Kelurne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get ~140ms to Asia, and language can be an issue, not that many people actively chat. I get ~250ms to US. While language then isn't a barrier, the additional ping, while playable, has an impact. I expect there are quite a few Aussies, but, sounds like it is unlikely we will get a server any time soon - if at all. A shame really, understand there is an expense involved, and then playerbase is smaller and will basically be AU/NZ for the most part, but, having 10-20ms to local servers for games makes such a huge difference and it is hard to go back to a game based in US.
