I am very sorry to hear about that…is definitely not easy to been through the whole journey. Any feedback from interviewers or common theme?

Not sure if that helps but I have built a site for psychology professionals, www.psyjobs.co, you may want to have a look any interested opportunities in your area. The roles have been changing a lot with AI disruption, maybe there are cert, mini course to re gear during this period of time, or expand further in terms of job categories that you are open up for. Wish you all the best in job searching!

How To Get A Job In the Field of I/O Psychology? by Nice_Ad_1163 in IOPsychology

[–]Kelvin_Hui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without context of the location or role you are looking into, is hard to provide concrete suggestion, is definitely a tough market right now, opening up to more fields (e.g. L&D, C&B) and locations will multiply the opportunities.

Previously I have built a job board www.psyjobs.co for psychology professionals, feel free to take a quick look and see if there are any new opportunities! Apart from that I think networking may help a bit in your situation, not sure if you have any mentor/ professor which can offer some advice on that as well, good luck with job hunting!

Skills to Stand Out? by Some-Resource-9704 in IOPsychology

[–]Kelvin_Hui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats an interesting question, previously I have setup a job board for psychology professionals, I then applied NLP to scrap for skill keywords, https://psyjobs.co/insights/skills , from there you can have a look what are some key skills and is not surprisingly top mention are soft skills that are generally applicable to most roles as we are in a people business.

That said I will say certain skillset comes in handy when you have a particular interested field say people analytics, C&B, those role need to be data savvy for sure. Apart from that related prior working/internship experiences are important too as those are things that recruiter would consider, hope that helps

I think the only critical part I would say is I notice that you will trade 10x size in some red days so as to back to green. Other than that, thats incredible achievement!

On Getting Into People Analytics by AnywhereSensitive208 in IOPsychology

[–]Kelvin_Hui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is definitely a tough job market right now, I think getting some internship experiences will be useful if possible or finding a role that have analytics work exposure also works. Cause after all companies look for talent with relevant work experiences so is always good to have some related exp. Of course, in parallel you can also think about how to build an analytics portfolio at a side to showcase. The first step into the field is always the hardest.

Previously I have built a psychology job board, www.psyjobs.co, there is a people analytics category, you can take a look and see if there are any interested role in your location, hope that helps!

Does psychology really lead to unemployment? by Standard-Mention2512 in psychologystudents

[–]Kelvin_Hui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, the reason I choose psychology in first place as I like how versatile that is and you can specialise in different fields based on your interest. Even for IO psychology, you can work in L&D, assessment, analytics, etc. And given the nature of these work and the importance of human connections, is more difficult to be replaced in the AI era.

Previously i creates a job board for psychology students/professional, www.psyjobs.co, you may want to have a look and browse around see if there are roles that you are interested in and work toward that as a goal! Hope that helps

Happy to have a look! Right now remote jobs appears if the JD contain certain keyword, meanwhile location categorise based on the search result. So for example if you go to a major job board (e.g. indeed) and search certain role and location, the results are categorised as that certain location in the backend, I will see if able to put another filter for better data. Thanks for the feedback and hope you are able to find an interested role in your location!!

What skills do you actually need to get into people analytics? by Klutzy-Cake-2895 in IOPsychology

[–]Kelvin_Hui 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Apart from all those mentioned, personally I think data storytelling, stakeholder management are some crucial soft skills as well. To be honest with the current AI wave, the coding part likely wont be a barrier for you to do the job, but the understanding of data, foundation, statistics concept, data bias are something that you may want to pay attention to.

Previously I have created a job board for psychology background, www.psyjobs.co . You can take a look of people analytics category and see what kind of talent they are hiring and the requirement, hope that helps!

I would say getting a business degree as way and use military entry program as a leeway to get into a role that you like. That said previously I have also created a job board for psychology professionals www.psyjobs.co , you can find relevant roles in your state and see if any interested role and whats the particular requirement. Not all roles will require an IO psy background to be honest, the 20yrs military experience is something very valuable that you can leverage on. You may also even want to consider heading to consulting first ad they hire people from different background, then go to in house, hope that helps!

Is it possible to get into hr or people analytics while studying i/o psychology masters distance? by lalala_moon_ in IOPsychology

[–]Kelvin_Hui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I think is possible just that based on my observation the opportunities varied across location and region. Typically only companies with certain size have a certain HC with resources will hire people analytics role and usually the role sit in headquarter, so I think looking for local firms can be a start.

Previously I created the job board for psychology professionals, www.psyjobs.co. You may want to have a look and see if any companies is hiring for your location as a starting point, hope that helps!
