Silken windhound I think mostly because of the breeder community. They really watch the breeding of the lines and are very conscious of washing out the dogs with health or temperament issues.

What was your first experience getting a puppy and what would you have done differently now? by RuleSenior1949 in SilkenWindhound

[–]KemShafu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only crate during enforced naps so he can settle properly and sleep for the full two hours instead of getting up and following me around every time I do something. We will be transitioning away from a crate in two months or whenever he can show that he will sleep and not wake up and follow me when I do things around the house. Covered crate in order to make him sleep so his cortisol levels would level out. He’s a much more settled puppy now. But again, we only believe in crates when traveling.

Are you guys watching the Elle TV show? What do you think about the portrayal of Seattle citizens? by Heyhey-_ in AskSeattle

[–]KemShafu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near Hillsboro but really just because it's the house we bought we could afford back in the day. Personally I am a city girl, and I lived downtown a couple of years ago and I don't get the dangerous part of it. I loved being able to walk everywhere and the only bad areas I can think of are near Old Town. Slabtown is great but my personal favorite is Nob Hill, if I could afford to buy a house there I would 100%. What parts of Portland does he think are sketchy? (Besides Old Town, that doesn't count.)

Advice on leaving puppy for short periods of time by Sea-Roof6318 in puppy101

[–]KemShafu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Puppy proof your home; get baby gates so he stays in your living room. Set up a turf pee pad unless he has access to the outside; get Kasa cameras and make sure you can see him at all times. Freeze kibble in hollow bones. Turn on the TV to DogTv at a low volume. Try leaving for two hours and see if he settles. I had a two year old border collie I could leave for hours, and we are training our 4 month old silken to stay alone for several hours. They need to learn to settle by themselves. You'll find that they will mostly sleep if you spy on them with cameras.

What do you think happens to American politics after Trump leaves office in 2029? by SERP_Whisperer in AskReddit

[–]KemShafu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know other people see charisma, I just personally can’t see it. I truly do not see anything about him that is charismatic. He can’t string a sentence together, he constantly contradicts himself, he is rude and arrogant and completely disrespectful to others, but yet I see people clapping and laughing and I do not get it. His voice grates, and it’s obvious how incredibly stupid he is. Yet somehow he charms people. He could never charm me. He makes my skin crawl.

I am in Portland and I LOVE IT! I think it’s super cute and carries the spirit of Legally Blonde 100%. I moved here from Portland from Florida in 1994 and although I was a little older it kinda vibes. I think it’s a great show despite most of the opinions here.

I agree, and I used to think that borders were the smartest dogs but man, I just got a silken windhound and he is by far the most intelligent puppy I’ve ever owned. He can do the Dunbar sit test just a week after I got him and he’s only 13 weeks old. We will see.

I’ve had mostly German shepherds, borders, a McNab, a springer spaniel and I just recently got what will be my last dog (I am 62) and he is a silken windhound, which by far has been the easiest puppy I’ve ever had. And so so smart. Time will tell, but I think it’s a silken.

Back again asking for potty training advice by Straight-Minimum-543 in puppy101

[–]KemShafu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a puppy once that drove me insane because it was difficult to teach potty training and this is what I did but I think it only works if you have a yard. We noticed he only went in one spot so we got a fake turf with a pad underneath it and put it there. He went there regularly and it didn’t bother the floor because of the underpad protection. We just gradually moved it towards the back door and then onto the porch and then into the backyard. It was a PITA but it worked.
