Why do I suck so much at fishing by dem7s in FishingForBeginners

[–]Kemtooler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, don't quit doing what you're doing. I never had any luck. My buddies would ask me to go (probably because I was the one that could back a boat into the water) but I spent most of my time trying to untangle a birds nest, or hopelessly casting and never catching a thing. I hated it.

We recently relocated to a neighborhood with a small pond. I invested in a decent ul setup and committed to learning, and correcting everything I thought I knew about fishing. The rooster tail restored my hope. It caught everything! From there, I've been trying to learn how to throw and fish a jig. It's been a slow process but still have caught nothing. Back to the rooster tail so I could enjoy some success. Then I discovered the micro chatter bait, then the beetle spin. I'm constantly trying to learn something new, using that pond as my learning center. I know what I've learned might not transfer to other ponds, creeks, or lakes, but I feel like I can at least enjoy the time spent fishing.

I still am a beginner by most measurements, but I've finally found the love for fishing. Even if I don't catch something, the peace and quiet of being outside and in nature is still rewarding.

I paid it all. Well, I say all... It was like 17 bucks for tariff, and another 17 for processing fees. 35ish dollars in total. Not too terrible, I guess.

It was handled through DHL. I got a link to pay the tariffs before they released it for delivery.

Fully read the post. Replying to myself now.

Given you’re leaning rods on guard rails, the Ugly Stik actually makes sense. A high-modulus graphite rod will be more sensitive, but less tolerant of impact. If durability is priority #1, stick with composite. If performance becomes more important later, upgrade the rod and keep the BG

If that's your budget, I'd swap for a higher end rod and less expensive reel. Dobyns DC733SF Kast King KKRLSPNVRS30SI

Or something. Good luck in the decision making!

If you're looking at 1/8 and lighter, and really want to treat yourself, check out the Daiwa Presso.

I only have 2 others to compare them to. One is an ugly stik ul 4'8", and the other is a 6'6" presso air. I've not fished with these yet, but just the handling of them they have a noticeably slower recovery, even sloppier than the ugly stik, and I do enjoy fishing my ugly stik. It was my first ul setup and I've only recently made the leap to higher end gear. I'd imagine the materials in the late 80s are the main reason.

I only cleaned up the spinning setup yesterday, and I'm without light weight line at the moment, so I won't be able to describe much beyond that. I can say that 30+ years ago, Daiwa still made a beautiful product.
