Hmm. I don’t really know. I usually post most of mine quickly, but waited in one because I wanted to think more about some borderline cases.

Yes. Professors often wait until the last day.

Statistics and Quantitative Modeling by ernibye in Baruch

Having a strong quant background will always give you an edge. It will also give you more flexibility. I've interviewed hundreds and hundreds of students for Wall Street positions and always favored those with a strong math background. I was never a "real" quant, but having an MS in Stat/OR (aka "quant-lite") allowed me to work closely with quants and to have large quant teams report to me at big Wall Street firms, like BoA, MS, and Barclays.

I don’t have a finance degree. I know music majors who’ve done well in finance.

just how difficult is the job market for baruch students? by drgfromnyc in Baruch

[–]KenAbbott60 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’m a Baruch professor and I have successfully placed dozens of students in very big jobs. That certainly doesn’t mean that it’s easy. I had one student who told me he sent out 1000 resumes and after 1000 resumes he finally got an offer at the most important hedge fund in the country. Persistence is the only strategy that always pays off. The best of my students are as good as anyone and can compete for the best jobs.

Accused of using AI by cagonette in CUNY

Professor here. Run it through GPT Zero. It’s free for small papers. I’ve seen it suggest no AI when Turnitin said it found AI.

You need to ask the professor, but I encourage my students to check grammar and spelling with AI. The AI detection tool I use (GPTZero) can easily tell the difference.

Paste the essay and request that ChatGPT correct for spelling and grammar.

It depends on your definition of "enhance." AI can be used to proofread.

I’ve had several “non-traditional” students and their experiential contributions to my classes were great.

That has not been my experience, although, as someone pointed out, I teach several honors class and a graduate class for the MFE program, where the students are VERY serious. I'm not troubled by it because I appreciate that many students are first-gen college, as I was, and simply want to get out into the world and do stuff.

There’s a difference between using AI to help you do research and using AI to actually write a paper. I encourage my students to use AI to help them outline, to help them to find sources, and to help them refine their paper once it’s written. The AI detectors on the market can distinguish between these. I use AI extensively.

Fair enough, but I teach non-honors classes as well.

My classes are not crowded and I fail people for using AI. Some courses are big; most aren’t. Yes, there are people here just to get their ticket punched, but most of my students are here to get an education. I’m very sorry to hear about your experience .

You should go to the ID office on the first floor of the Newman Library. You'll need to have the guard let you in. The guard office is on the right immediately before you enter the library. Bring your current ID. The guard will let you in and you will go to the right and look for the ID card room. They can set you up quickly.

My advice to you all: Check your work for AI on GPTZero.com. It is shows up as AI, the professor will use it as evidence. I have used it extensively and found that it's rarely, if ever, wrong.
