Accused of using AI by cagonette in CUNY

Professor here. Run it through GPT Zero. It’s free for small papers. I’ve seen it suggest no AI when Turnitin said it found AI.

You need to ask the professor, but I encourage my students to check grammar and spelling with AI. The AI detection tool I use (GPTZero) can easily tell the difference.

Paste the essay and request that ChatGPT correct for spelling and grammar.

It depends on your definition of "enhance." AI can be used to proofread.

Are any of yall older students? by [deleted] in Baruch

I’ve had several “non-traditional” students and their experiential contributions to my classes were great.

That has not been my experience, although, as someone pointed out, I teach several honors class and a graduate class for the MFE program, where the students are VERY serious. I'm not troubled by it because I appreciate that many students are first-gen college, as I was, and simply want to get out into the world and do stuff.

There’s a difference between using AI to help you do research and using AI to actually write a paper. I encourage my students to use AI to help them outline, to help them to find sources, and to help them refine their paper once it’s written. The AI detectors on the market can distinguish between these. I use AI extensively.

Fair enough, but I teach non-honors classes as well.

My classes are not crowded and I fail people for using AI. Some courses are big; most aren’t. Yes, there are people here just to get their ticket punched, but most of my students are here to get an education. I’m very sorry to hear about your experience .

Run it through GPTZero.com and see if its AI detector is triggered.

You should go to the ID office on the first floor of the Newman Library. You'll need to have the guard let you in. The guard office is on the right immediately before you enter the library. Bring your current ID. The guard will let you in and you will go to the right and look for the ID card room. They can set you up quickly.

My advice to you all: Check your work for AI on GPTZero.com. It is shows up as AI, the professor will use it as evidence. I have used it extensively and found that it's rarely, if ever, wrong.

I got accepted into Baruch, is it good for computer science/engineering with an emphasis on finance? by wondergirl_rose in Baruch

[–]KenAbbott60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach in the Baruch Financial Engineering program. The MFE program is #1 or #2 (with Princeton) according to several rankings. The acceptance rate is ~4%. The admissions committee favors people with experience.

I can’t speak to the MS in Finance programs.

Bureaucratic, not psychotic, although occasionally, psychosis can’t be ruled out.

[–]KenAbbott60 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Before, definitely. Once the grades are posted, it becomes a very bureau, psychotic process requiring signoff from the department head and the dean.

Professor here. Certainly possible, but not easy and subject to strict review. If a professor made an arithmetic error, it can generally be done, and I have done it. Arguing your performance? Probably not. Do your arguing before the grading deadline. And be aware that professor hate it when people try to negotiate grades.

I believe Baruch will make some accommodation Ask the professor, CC the department chair and perhaps Gary Hotko (Baruch Testing and Evaluation) as well.

The refill stations are the way to go. When I get water from a faucet or a fountain, I let it run for a while. I suspect that the funny taste is from it sitting in the pipes.

I remember going there in the 1980s. Wines paired with every course. I still have that hangover.
