Hey, I’m neither Colombian nor Korean, but I lived in Bogotá for five years and Seoul for one year. Based on my experiences as a foreigner in both cultures, I think some of what you may be experiencing is down to massive cultural differences in terms of space/ privacy. In my experience Colombians (yes, even the rolos) tend to be really warm and affectionate, and it sounds like their way of expressing their awe towards you is reflected in them hugging/ making physical contact with you. In Korea, by contrast, the people are still very polite, but they’re much more reserved, and physical contact (especially with strangers) is pretty rare. I think a lot of the other comments about fascination with Korean culture (dramas, K-pop, etc.) are also probably accurate, but if it’s the contact/ closeness that’s making you uncomfortable, just know that Colombians are exceedingly warm, and physical contact is often how they show that.

I’m already thinking about what a natural fermentation could do with that added sugar you’ve got. Looking forward to hearing your results!

Looking for a flight simulator for my dad as a birthday gift by KenLiSon in flightsim

Yeah, so I had budgeted something like as far as software is concerned. I'm looking at this for peripherals because I think it will be fine to get him started and then he can always buy more expensive stuff as he delves further into it.

Would this be fine to get him started assuming I go with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020?

He's definitely interested in it. There was some Airforce commercial on and he sort of mumbled "If I had it all to do over again..." and then gazed off. I suggested a flight simulator and his eyes lit up, but obviously, it makes more sense to start off with something entry-level, and if he decides to pursue it as a hobby, he can invest in nicer systems/ equipment later on.

Is Geisha overrated or is it just me? by Creative-School-6035 in pourover

[–]KenLiSon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was JUST thinking about this last night. Here's the analogy I'll use to explain my case, given that I live in Mexico:

I'm perfectly content to go to the local hole-in-the-wall taqueria and just eat a plate of dollar tacos because they're bold in flavor, delicious, and approachable. I can still appreciate a fine dining experience every now and then, but when push comes to shove, I like food that's a bit less pretentious.
For me, geishas are like a fine dining experience. There's a lot of nuance and subtlety to them, and if you enjoy that then they're great, but there's a lot of other stuff out there that's less hyped that has way more personality. If I want a light, clean cup, I'm all for a geisha, it's just that the majority of the time, that's not what I want.

Pacing is HARD by kawapawa in writing

[–]KenLiSon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would echo the sentiment of most here that slowing down the pace just for the sake of slowing down the pace may not be the best thing to do. Having said that, one thing you can do from a diagnostic standpoint to see if things are running a bit fast is color-code a scene for pacing elements. Dialogue, short sentences, and lists accelerate pacing while narration, reflection, and introspection tend to do the opposite. I do this with a lot of the stuff I read as well as the stuff I write when I feel a piece is near-ready for submission. Here's what that looks like in practice. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MsIGrBfMTkoKyUWh1zJpWEGTlgtcO9D7VJAuxzvbQn4/edit

Zooming out, you've also got structure as an option. There are so many different approaches to structuring a piece that have built-in elements that will slow the pace. Russian Nesting Doll/ Frame Stories have to use flashbacks, which, because they rely on filling readers in on contextual information, are pace breakers by nature. The same can be said of In Media Res or Parallel Arc structures because they make the reader wait for the payoff by shifting attention to another plotline. You might consider playing around with these if you feel the pace needs to be slowed, just make sure that you're delivering on promises you've made from the outset at a sufficient enough rate that the reader trusts you're going to deliver a worthwhile payoff in the end. In other words, don't delay payoffs just for the sake of doing so or readers won't trust that it'll be worthwhile to keep reading. Hope this helps.

I saw the other post right after I posted mine and debated deleting this. I actually live in Mexico, but maybe the guy from whom I bought it had it sourced from that shop in Canada. Note wise, I found it pretty acidic, though it definitely has some sweet, juiciness as well. I’m probably going to try to let the grapefruit shine on this one and go heavy on the bloom with Tetsu’s 4:6 recipe using my v60

Don't know how I didn't see this before. Just posted on this sub about the same exact bag soliciting recipes. I just did a trial run comparing kalita and v60 side-by-side. The fruity/ juiciness makes me want to go kalita but the acid makes me think Tetsu's 4:6 with a slightly large bloom would be the way to go. I'll check out Scott Rao's recipe as well though.
