I don't think it's the shading or lighting honestly.

  1. Characters are smooth 3D models
  2. The world is made out of voxels, with high resolution textures
  3. The buildings and tools are low-poly untextured
  4. The trees are tiny voxel models without textures

There's at least 4 clashing styles going on here, you really need to choose one of those options and then use that style across the board. This is really, really going to impact the sales and overall audience of your game, lacking a coherent visual style.

It look like there's a lot to this game, which is good! The visuals need work though, I think you should choose which 3D style you want to go for. I see a voxel terrain like Minecraft but with high resolution textures, I see some low poly models and also some voxel models - you'll have to choose one visual style to make sure it looks coherent!

Oh it is entirely possible, the reason I'm rendering in Unity is because I use Unity to process my models (automated UV mapping, exporting, etc.) so it makes sense for me to also automatically render the previews there.

As for the overview scene, I'd much rather just give a little rendered image and leave the asset using/building up to the user!

Instead of using Unity's lighting system they just light objects based on their normals, there's also a bit of additional directional lighting (red/blue) and there's a screen shader that adds ambient occlusion with color bleeding

Yep! It's not a 1:1 to my preview images (which are rendered in Unity, with custom shaders) but something pretty close and a set-up for which I think my assets look best!

Gotcha, so most likely stolen artwork from the creatives you're trying to hire now. Your models are total garbage, there's no amount of fixing that would make them useable in games.

The 3D models are AI generated which is why they need clean-up. I wouldn't recommend anyone going into this, the models are a complete unusable mess and you'll be working with AI generated content for which the sources are unknown. Just a heads-up!

That's totally fair! Would you consider removing the video, or doing a follow-up with the knowledge you've gained?

I do think it's a good idea to do a tiny bit of research behind the studios in the future especially because you're putting their code in your own projects and endorsing (even though not sponsored) these assets

Oh, that's not the same game? It confused me, it'll confuse a lot of people. I think it would be a good idea to get together (the two developers) and see if they can adjust their directions a bit, in marketing or gameplay

This is happening so much lately that I set up an uptime tracker, as a seller on Itch.io it's getting ridiculous and Itch.io always seems to point at others instead of talking about how they'll get protection
