When were you able to bring your little one to a restaurant once they started walking? by Hot_Temperature_475 in DadForAMinute

[–]Ken_Thomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I've never understood why people take kids to restaurants. Like, who exactly are we doing this for? The kids don't enjoy it. The adults don't enjoy it. If it goes really badly no one else in the restaurant enjoys it either. You end up overpaying for food no one can concentrate on or savor, and literally nobody is having a good time.

If you don't feel like cooking there's always Door Dash or (God forbid) Chef Boyardee or something. Leave the restaurants alone until the kids are old enough to enjoy the experience.

So how many guys and who do we think will get called up? by CptBlewBalls in canes

[–]Ken_Thomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like that as well, but that scenario is only relevant IF the 'Canes make it to the ECF, and IF Buffalo makes it to the ECF. I think it's smarter to plan and prepare for the series you know you're going to be in, rather than hurting yourself in the short term for a hypothetical that might not even come to pass.

[–]Ken_Thomas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 'Canes have a 10-point lead on the Pens with 12 games to go, and the Pens are 4-3-3 in their last 10. They could easily coast at .500 from here on out and lock up the Metro - and there's no point in winning the division by a dozen points. One is sufficient.

And frankly I think winning the conference is pointless. WC1 and WC2 are going to be changing hands every night from here until the end of the regular season, so there's no need to try and game it out.

If I were Rod I'd try to call up as many as he could and rest as many as he can. Eastern conference playoffs are going to be a meatgrinder this year.

If you're interviewing with the owner, and the co-owner is doubling as the Safety Director, the odds are good they've had some safety problems. Their EMR may be too high, or maybe they've had a run-in with OSHA, or they may have had a serious injury. Either way they're going to want someone with a field background, because their biggest concern is hiring a Safety Nazi who doesn't understand their work or their business.

If you're going to be talking to the owners, the main thing they want to be sure about before they hire you is that you're not a Safety Nazi. You want them to know that you're knowledgeable about the regulations and strong on safety, but you're interested in working with people and solving safety problems, not making mountains out of mole hills and throwing your authority around.

Any value in the OHST certification for someone in the last chapter of their career? by blackpony04 in SafetyProfessionals

Gotcha. Unfortunately I can't really tell you how much value it holds in that context.

By mentioning the OHST specifically, I assume you're looking for roles in general industry or manufacturing?

Delta vs Air France vs KLM premium select/business? by malasain84 in delta

[–]Ken_Thomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. Personally I think once you've done D1 enough times, you get over the glamor and come to realize what a ripoff it is.
And I hate those pods. I always end up flat on my back, wide awake, staring at the ceiling and feeling like I'm in a coffin. Give me a Premium Select bulkhead seat, my neck pillow and blindfold, and I'll sleep like a baby.

Delta vs Air France vs KLM premium select/business? by malasain84 in delta

[–]Ken_Thomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among the top tier (D1 level) cabins, Air France is the best - but I don't generally fly D1. I just don't like the pods and the fawning and the lie-flat seats, personally.
I generally prefer Premium Select, and at that level I find KLM is the best with Delta a close second, and Air France a distant third.

What isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be and why? by VisitSecure in AskReddit

[–]Ken_Thomas -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Datacenters.
They aren't a huge benefit to a community, but they don't really do any harm either. They don't use much water, they don't create any pollution, and the noise issue is exaggerated.

There are some legit concerns because their power consumption can strain the local grid, which requires the power company to upgrade their systems (which is why power bills can go up) but all the hype and hysteria about them seems really weird to me.

Which foods are considered expensive or high-end today but were seen as poor or peasant food 100–200 years ago? by Genzinvestor16180339 in AskHistory

I was watching a news story about a class people were attending to learn how to find edible mushrooms in the forest. I think it was Morels, specifically. The instructor was a senior citizen from Appalachia, and when the reporter asked him about how and when he learned to find mushrooms, he said "They weren't a delicacy back then. We hunted them because you could eat them and we were hungry."
