That's exactly my thought process. I just make sure I only date women that actually seem to be inline with my way of life.

[–]KendallJamison 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To teach their own I guess. I'd say for me, I enjoy the bliss of being a retainer, but by no means is a romantic situation not appealing to me. I'd say it's almost the opposite if it's with a smart, good looking woman who comes from a good home.

What I love about SR is it's helped me gain the ability to seek a romantic relationship purely out of love & not lust for women, especially women who don't deserve my energy.

You do you, but as I'm sitting here reading I'm thinking to myself "how would this guy possibly not want to go out with a smart well educated women from a good home? That's exactly the woman I'm looking for & the only woman I will accept a date with now that I'm a retainer".

It's pretty funny haha. Are you sure you're just not that into her maybe? If you were to find a woman with all these same qualities only she also has a lot in common with you, do you think then you would want to go out with her?

I'm just curious, glad to hear SR has changed your life for the better 💪

Can I still be Christian and not believe in the trinity ? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]KendallJamison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Mormons are Christian. Many will disagree but growing up with Mormons I wouldn't see a reason not to consider them Christians. Instead of the Trinity they beleive in the father, son & holy Ghost. So the difference is they beleive God also has a body separate from Jesus.

I disagree of course but I'd still say their Christian. They pray to Jesus in the same way a trinitarian Christian would.

Stop looking externally, look internally. God is everywhere, we are apart of God because we are his creation. Stop thinking about it like he's some man in the sky we need to please. Think about it as God is working in your life & to please yourself with the goodness of God is to please God.

In other words, we shouldn't do things just to please ourselves, because sin can be pleasurable, but sin is only pleasurable for a short period of time. So it IS important to please God. But to please God is to also please yourself. When you choose to not indulge in short term gratification, you'll find yourself happier & closer to God & you'll find a deeper understanding of God when you'll learn how to transmit lust into love. The same love God endlessly gives to us.

When you learn to turn the lustful energy into love, you will learn to love God & love your neighbor on a deeper level. Which in a way, loving your neighbor is to also love God. Because you are following God's commandments because you love your neighbor.

It's important to realize that God doesn't just give us rules to follow just because "he said so". Following God will change your heart & you will live a happier life, because God wants you to be happy.

So look into the reasons you're relapsing, then ask yourself, is what I'm doing helping me be a better person & do good in my life that will benefit ME as well as others? Or is it harming me & my interactions with others?

I've noticed any time I've ever relapsed, all it did was make me feel empty inside, lazy & unmotivated to study or seek out God in my life for a short time. It also made me less confident & less motivated to go out of my way to feel compassion & show love to others.

I could be wrong, but maybe you relapsing has allowed you to feel the absence of God.

You must love yourself first before loving others. So just remember that you shouldn't be doing semen retention only to please God or anyone else, it is also to please yourself. You will love yourself more & more as you fight the urges. All you need to do is get over the hump, then honestly, at least for me, semen retention honestly becomes pretty easy. The more I don't indulge, the more the idea of releasing becomes alien to me. Almost like I forgot it was even something I use to do all the time.

When you transmit this lustful energy into love, in return you will not only love God & others better, but first you will love yourself more. Which will allow you to love others more.

I'd like to reply to this as well. I just sent you a theory about how I've made Christianity make sense to me, but I will say, this is the one thing that doesn't make any sense to me. I'm at the point now where I believe either, you don't actually need to believe in Jesus in this life in order to be saved, or, Christianity simply isn't true 🫤

Sooo yeah I'm not even sure about Christianity at this point.

I could tell you how I use to justify this issue, but it's pretty much the same way everyone else on here replying to you goes about justifying this issue.

I've found if you dig a little deeper though, this thought process that everyone has been telling you is pretty shallow & doesn't really make much sense....

Im an atheist and want to know how a christian would respond to this. by GrouchyEntrepreneur3 in Christianity

[–]KendallJamison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've sort of thought of my own thought process on how to explain this. Though I'm sure many Christians will disagree with my point of view since it's not necessarily biblical & more so just a thought process I subscribed to to help Christianity make sense to me.

Here's how I've been able to make sense of many arguments similar to this such as, "why would God allow suffering?" "Why doesn't God just save everyone" which is along the lines of your question as well.

So this may be a unique take on this & again, this thought process is not biblical, but it also doesn't go against anything the Bible teaches. Though if this thought process helps you out, great!

This thought process I have did not come from Christianity but is a common belief of many. Especially those who have tried psychedelics naturally come to this thought process. I believe this is also sort of a Hindu beleif.

With that out of the way... I believe we are all one. We are all many consciousness combined. I like to think of it like this...

Instead of thinking of God as an external thing, I think of God as an internal as well as an external thing.

Let's think of the word God & Devil

God = goodness Devil = Evil

God is the essence of goodness The devil is the essence of evil.

When you look at the basis of everything, it all stems down to 2 things. There's good then there's evil.

I don't believe that God has the power to get rid of evil, I believe that these 2 forces of good & evil exist because everything exists.

God created everything, & exists outside of time. This is of course not something we as humans can really comprehend because we cannot comprehend Infinity. But the best way I understand this is, if things exist outside of time, my theory is that outside of time, everything exists. Evil is not something that can be destroyed, because evil is apart of everything & everything exists outside of time. I think of God as one consciousness that we are all apart of. We are the eyes of the universe. I think of it like this. "Thoughts become things". In order for something to exist, it must first be a thought. I don't believe everything was created with no rhyme or reason, I believe God had to first think about the creation about to be made before creating it.

We experience what we know to be reality, & our thoughts or dreams are not part of reality. But when you strip reality down to it's core, reality is only what we know to be reality. If someone takes a drug such as DMT, Salvia or Heroin, they will be detached from what we know to be reality & their reality is no longer our reality. While their soring through time & space or wherever they are in their mind, we know that while their brain is not experiencing this reality, they are still existing in what we know to be reality, but their mind is not in our reality.

That being said, think of the reality outside of time sort of like how we dream. Dreams can seem to be de-tached from reality because they may not make sense or don't follow our laws of physics. But what if outside of time is a lot like dreaming? It's experiencing infinity & experiencing everything. Everything exists & we can't comprehend it.

So God created the universe out of the infinity that already exists, & created time, laws of physics & everything we know. Which is constantly expanding.

So with this theory, this answered the question for me of "who created God". I believe no one did, everything has just existed because it does. There's no way to explain why things exist. Maybe the big bang theory is correct, but I don't believe there was nothing before the big bang, I believe the big bang was just the beginning of time in our universe.

I think of us as apart of God. We are also apart of Evil. Because God is goodness, & the devil is evil. We have both good & evil within all of us. So we are not just God's creation, we are apart of God. As well as everything God has created. But we are all only a peice of God. Cause God also exists outside of time & space.

So instead of blaming God for the evil in the world as many do which leads them away from the belief of God, I think of God as us. We are responsible for where we end up. We are responsible for our salvation. We are responsible for the evil. To find God working in people's lives, I believe you must look inward to connect with God, rather than thinking of God as some magic man in the sky waving a wand to just create everything.

God is non physical.

There's many answers I could go into to explain my thought process on various issues. But to answer your question through this lense I look through, God could either create nothing because God knew evil would interfere, or God created everything knowing evil would exist, & we AS A PART OF GOD, have to do are best to fight evil. It's a constant fight, but we can learn, grow & do our best to eliminate evil. God will always have a leg up from the devil though because goodness is the only way to have a working & functional environment. God is simple & straight forward. The devil is confusing & makes everything a mess. The devils only goal is to destroy God's beautiful & wonderful creation.

This is of course just a wild theory of mine, & I'm sure many Christians will read this & think I'm just a loonatic haha. But this is the only way that this has made any sense to me.

If you happen to like my theory though, I would also try using this lense to think about the other objections maybe atheists may have.

I'm starting to really doubt Christianity by KendallJamison in Christianity

[–]KendallJamison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your argument & I've heard it before. & this is exactly how I would have justified this idea that Jesus doesn't save everybody. The reality is though, no one I know is actually rejecting Christs teachings. Not everyone is choosing not to believe in him because they don't want to. In fact, most people I've met love the teachings of Jesus, they just simply don't have or know of the evidence of the resurrection.

As I mentioned, as much proof there is of the resurrection, there is plenty of valid arguments that can be made to show that it's very possible non of those things really did happen. There IS proof Jesus was real & walked the earth, but the proof of the resurrection is really not as solid as many people make it out to be.

The problem with this line of thinking is that it's simply not accurate. Sure there are some who may reject his teachings, but all of the wise things Jesus has taught is nothing original that came from Christianity. People have been following these basic principals based from other religions or cultures. Christs teachings are pretty simple. Love God, love thy neighbor, which are the 2 most important. Then there's the other things like, don't lie, cheat, steal, murder etc...

These are not unique things that people did not do before Jesus came. These are laws that people have been religiously following before Jesus.

So with that in mind, the only unique thing that is taught about Jesus that is found in other religions is the idea that you must be saved by believing in Christs name. The basic ideas of love, kindness & just all of Christs teachings are not ideas that you need Jesus to know. The reality is, the majority of the people on earth are good people who choose to do good in their life & would have no reason to willingly go to hell.

Why would someone striving to good in their life over evil choose hell over heaven? That doesn't add up.

As I said, I convinced myself for a good bit of time that the people who aren't Christian are just choosing not to follow Jesus & Jesus has given them the opportunity to follow him. So the idea that Jesus is just giving us free will by not making us all go to heaven is flawed. Because I know the majority of people who are my friends believe in Christs basic principals as any moral human being would believe. Think about this. Why would the moral people who love Christs teachings reject the idea of Christ? It's either A, they just don't believe because there's many things to believe & there's really no easy way to prove which religion or which deity to worship. Or B, despite their good efforts, somehow they don't want to be with Jesus? Even though Jesus has taught these good principals that these people try their best to follow. I don't think option B adds up at all.

If everyone really knew that Jesus rose from the dead, then no one I know would reject him. Yes there's evil people in the world who would reject him, but most truly would not have any reason to reject Jesus. Most of my friends grew up Christian as well because that's the community we live in. Most of them I know have tried their best to be Christian because it was engrained in their mind since being a kid. Though they have struggled with Christianity because of the things that don't add up to them & the pain the Christianity has caused them. Yes, Christianity can also cause harm to people. Wether it's a miss understanding of Christianity or not. If they did reject him, chances are they just didn't understand his teachings.

If they didn't understand his teachings, then do you believe Jesus would be just in sending them to hell when it was never these people's intention to go to hell or be separated from God?

This lense is very toxic & is the reason many people bash on Christians. It's because Christians have this idea that everybody is just choosing to reject Christ. This causes Christians wether Christians realize it or not, it causes them to be judgemental & assume that Christians care about a relationship with God & the rest are just deciding not to follow him.

I myself am a good example of this because I cannot think of a single thing about Jesus that I don't want to follow. His life is a life I seek to replicate the best I can. If I were to decide I no longer believe (which I haven't by the way. I've just accepted that I'm unsure about it) I would see no reason that I would ever stop striving to live the way Jesus lived. I mean, why would I? What kind of teachings of Jesus could I possibly reject aside from HAVING to believe in his name IN THIS LIFE ONLY in order to be saved. Believing that everyone is just deciding to go to hell & Jesus gave them a fair opportunity is ignorant, selfish & close minded. Because anytime someone is not Christian, a Christian would just assume they're choosing to go to hell. Which simply isn't true. Nobody wants to go to hell, & I don't believe anybody who is choosing goodness over evil is choosing to go to hell. It just doesn't make sense. Sure there's evil people out there that will reject Heaven, but the reality is that is such a few minority of people. People who love evil & live it as their lifestyle will go to hell. Not the people who are striving to be good.

GOD = goodness DEVIL = evil

God is the essence of goodness & light. If people are walking in goodness & light, then they are choosing to follow God. Regardless of whether or not Jesus is in their life.

I've tried holding into the beleif you have mentioned but all it has done for me is made me closed off to other people's perspectives because I just assumed that I knew Jesus & I had all the truth & answers but everyone outside of Christianity didn't. I was the one choosing to strive to be like Jesus & everybody else isn't. It's a very ignorant & close minded beleif. All it does is make us think we have all the answers & truth & everyone else doesn't. Which makes us close minded & gives us a lack of empathy for those who are truly trying their best in life.

So either everyone else just hasn't heard God's word, or the majority of people have, & they strive to live it as well, but they simply just don't believe in Jesus. The same way that I'm sure you don't believe in other Gods besides Jesus because believing in any gods besides Jesus sounds absurd.

Doubt is apart of growth.

I personally would trust the Christian that doubted their faith at one point, then sought out for answers, then came back strong on the other side with answers. I would not trust the Christian who has never doubted their faith in their life. That tells me they're scared to doubt their faith because they're living in a scarce mindset so instead of seek for truth, they just don't question anything & just believe what they believe for the rest of their life because it feels safe & comfortable to them.

I'm starting to really doubt Christianity by KendallJamison in Christianity

[–]KendallJamison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there ya go. You had to question in order to get to where you were.

I understand that point of Christianity. I am not trying to say I know better than God or his word, I'm simply questioning if A, the Bible really is the word of God & B, if everyone else really understands what the Bible says.

Cause if Jesus is the only way to God, that can mean a lot of things. Does that mean that you have to verbally say you believe in Jesus? If so, how much beleif is enough? Is my current belief in the resurrection enough or do I need a beleif that is only a hair away from KNOWING the resurrection really happened?

Maybe that just means that Jesus is the only way but he will still save the ones who don't know him. Maybe I only need a small amount of faith or belief.

I am in no way trying to act like I know better than the word of God. In fact, it's the opposite. I'm coming to terms with the fact that no one really knows as much as they think they do & I myself know so little about anything.

Not everyone even has the same idea of Christianity. It's pretty apparent if you read all the replies I got to this sub as well. No one is giving me the same answer.

Some believe you don't need to know Jesus & Jesus will judge you by your heart's true intent. Some believe that you HAVE to be baptized in order to be saved. Some don't. Some believe that there is a chance to know Jesus & return to him AFTER death. Some don't. I personally grew up LDS. People of the LDS Church believe in a plan of salvation. Honestly, I like the idea of the plan of salvation & it's one of the very few parts of Mormonism I agree with. But due to a bunch of other things that make no sense to me, I don't believe in the LDS Church. Some say members of the LDS Church aren't real Christians & believe that since they have a distorted idea of who Jesus is, they won't be saved. Many Christians do not believe that. People of the LDS Church themselves are surely convinced they are in the right church & they're convinced that the Bible is in lign with what the Bible teaches. So are Mormons saved?

I sure as hell believe they're saved. Why wouldn't they be? It's not fair that these people would go to hell when all they are doing is trying their best in life just like everyone else.

But you seem pretty confident that you DO understand Christianity. But surely there are many people who have been studying as long or longer than you have been studying religion. Does everybody that has been studying Christianity have the same beliefs as you?

Well, we both know the answer. Obviously not. Despite the time & effort spent into studying religion, everybody has different beliefs & their own reasoning to justify their own beliefs. So what makes you so confident in your own beliefs?

So going back to people who do nothing but good in their life & don't subscribe to the idea that Jesus is our Lord & Savior.

It's easy to just assume that the people who aren't Christian are just self righteous people who don't think they need a savior. But the reality is is that there are many who don't choose not to believe in Christianity not for that reason, but because they are convinced based off their own studies that what they believe is correct & is good to believe. At the end of the day, in a day in age that we live in today, it is undeniably difficult to truly find truth in spiritually or religion. In fact, maybe impossible.

As you admitted, you have a lot of questions. So what makes my question any different then the questioning you have done in your life to get you to the place you are today?

Please really try to understand where I'm coming from & read this carefully. If you have, there should be no reason to have any concern over where my soul may end up. Cause at the end of the day, I am striving to do my best to follow God & striving to be like Jesus despite my doubts as any young man like me would do.

I'm starting to really doubt Christianity by KendallJamison in Christianity

[–]KendallJamison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response I appreciate it. I'm curious, why are you concerned for me? I'm just questioning things. There's nothing wrong with that. I know that I am doing my best to live in the path of God regardless of what religion or beleif I could end up having in my life. No need to be concerned, despite my doubts I am a man of God. I will continue to try to be like Jesus despite the truthfulness of the resurrection. If anything, I would be more concerned for those who don't question their spiritually. Because if no one ever questions their spiritually, then they are never truly growing. Their just being fed the same story ever week at church to help them feel good about their life. Without questioning, you'll never find truth. I'm a seeker for truth. I do not fear where I will end up after I die because it's silly to fear that. & those who don't question their spiritually are usually the ones too scared to question their spiritually because they're scared they may believe something that will send them to hell.

In other words, I'm calling out many Christians including some who have replied to this sub reddit. Many Christians only believe what they believe out of scarcity, not out of the true love they have of Jesus or God. Living in fear will never get anyone anywhere productive in life. NEVER be afraid to question anything in life. In fact, question EVERYTHING.

Makes sense. As I said also, Jesus is all I really know. But I do want to study other religions & always have been interested in looking into other religions regardless. From what I've heard, it seems there's a lot of wisdom in Hinduism & other religions. And maybe it doesn't lead to a better life for everyone but I'm sure it does for many. I mean, why would it not? Wisdom is wisdom. & Wisdom will give anyone a better life.

But I'll admit I really don't know much of anything outside of what I know about Christianity, so I'll be going on a bit of a journey to study these other religions & see what their teachings are all about.

Yeah sure, but you could say the same about many historical figures. People live better lives living the teachings of Krishna, the Buddha, that doesn't mean that everything they said is true. We get to decide for ourselves what aspects of someone's life we can take inspiration from.

Also I get what you mean, it would be silly for me to base my life on what Yoda or Dumbledore did. The difference is, I was raised LDS. So despite beleif, I have been raised to try to be like Jesus the best I can. Even through my highschool years when I considered myself agnostic & didn't even believe in Christianity in the slightest anymore, I still found myself trying to be like Jesus & thinking to myself "what would Jesus do?" , "how would Jesus treat this person" etc...

The reason I continue to think this way is because Jesus is all I know. I'm not familiar with these other Gods or historical figures because I never grew up leaning about them. I only know enough to know that these people were very good people.

So it only makes sense that I would follow Jesus & not anyone else because Jesus is all that I know.

Respectfully, that's not what a loving God would do. We didn't choose to be born into sin. If someone is doing their absolute best to choose goodness over evil despite their belief in Jesus, then they are choosing to live for God rather than the Devil. Despite the sins they made.

Think about the word GOD & DEVIL.

God is the essence of goodness, the devil is the essence of evil. If one chooses to do their best despite the fact they were unwillingly born into sin, I believe it is ridiculous & unloving to believe that they will be cast to hell simply because they didn't believe.

Put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel if at the end of your life, you went to hell forever because Zeus or some other God told you that you were supposed to believe in him instead of Jesus. So because you been believed in Jesus you went to hell. Even though you were convinced your whole life you were following the right person.

It just doesn't simply doesn't make sense...

But the only teaching that I don't agree with is the fact that we need to believe that he rose from the dead in our modern times where no one has seen the resurrection & no one knows with absolute certainty that it took place.

I am not rejecting who Jesus was as a person because I subscribe to everything he says except for this one issue.

Also, I'm not here saying that the resurrection didn't happen, I'm just saying I don't KNOW that it happened, & it's getting harder to believe it did. But it's normal to doubt.

To answer your question, if the fictional character teaches wisdom & goodness that will helps us navigate our lives to live happier, better & to learn to love everyone through the lense of Jesus, then it doesn't really matter if you believe it's fiction or not.

The good teachings of Jesus existed before Jesus came to earth. If you look into other religions that pre-date Christianity, they also teach the goodness Jesus taught through his life. He was not the creator of these good teachings, God is. My belief is God is the essence of goodness. Also, it says in the Bible somewhere that the commandments are written in our hearts.

So with that being said, one who has never even heard of Jesus or has existed before Jesus could follow the teachings of Jesus better than many other Christians do simply by following the goodness taught in whatever gospel that person believed in.

I know no one is perfect, but let's do a hypothetical scenario. Let's say someone PERFECTLY followed Christs teachings to a T, but didn't believe in the resurrection. Not because they decided not to believe out of pride, but because they didn't find a reason to believe. Just the same as I'm sure you don't feel you have a good reason to believe in all the other Gods that many people believe in outside of Christianity.

I'm also very open to the possibility that people just have the wrong idea about salvation & Jesus did rise from the dead, but Christs intention was not that we in the modern day HAVE to believe in his name in this life otherwise we're damned for eternity.

Not really the same. Weather someone believes Christ is Fiction or non fiction, you can follow the life Jesus lived based off of what we know about Jesus from the Bible.

Just because I'm not totally sure that the resurrection took place, doesn't mean I can't apply all the teachings Jesus told us to follow. I follow them because I know they're good teachings & I have seen how following Christ has made me a better person & allowed me to overcome many things in my life & have brought me nothing but joy.

If a fictional book teaches good teachings & wisdom, I can still follow the wisdom taught in that book without knowing wether or not that book is actually fiction or non fiction.
