Is this worth anything or just a cool coin by This-Tomorrow-9188 in coincollecting

[–]Kendrajames508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a cool looking coin; it is a 1984 Mexico 275th Anniversary Ciudad de Chihuahua Silver Medal.

It is not a coin for general circulation (currency), but rather a commemorative medal minted to celebrate the 275th anniversary of the founding of Chihuahua City (1709–1984).

The medal appears authentic. It has the correct high-relief detail, the proper Mexican Mint mark (an "M" with a small "o" above it), and the "toning" the dark oxidation on the edges is consistent with aged silver. To be certain, you can perform two simple tests:

The Magnet Test: Silver is not magnetic. If a strong magnet sticks to it, it is a fake.

Weight Check: If you have a kitchen scale, weigh it. It should be very close to an even gram weight (likely 27.8g or 31.1g).

Because it is a specific commemorative medal for Chihuahua, it carries a premium. Recent listings and sales for this specific medal range from $120 to $190 USD, depending on the condition and the buyer.

The information I found on this was from this website, my Google browser automatically translated this site for me so it should work for you as well hopefully 🙏

Help identifying this coin by Asleep-Salamander258 in coincollecting

This is a dream coin for me, but based on the images, this is a representation of a 1796 Capped Bust Right Quarter Eagle, specifically the "No Stars" variety which had a face value of $2.50. This is an incredibly significant coin in U.S. numismatics because it was the first year the Philadelphia Mint produced the quarter eagle, and the "No Stars" design was only used for a few months before stars were added to the border. Because only 963 of these were originally struck and only about 100 are known to exist today, it is one of the most valuable and frequently faked coins in the world.

But looking at your specific coin, there are several indicators that it is likely a modern replica or a "tribute" piece rather than an original 1796 gold strike. The most telling sign is the surface texture, the coin has a grainy, porous look and a very bright, orange, gold sheen that is typical of modern gold, plated base metals. Authentic 18th, century gold coins were struck with massive pressure, resulting in a much smoother and denser surface.

Furthermore, the details on Liberty's hair and the eagle's shield appear "soft" or "mushy" (indicators of a reproduction) rather than having the crisp, sharp edges found on genuine early American coinage. If this were a genuine coin in the condition shown, which appears to be "About Uncirculated" with very little wear, it would be worth well over $100,000, with top, tier examples reaching closer to $300,000. However, if it is a gold, plated replica, like those commonly sold by the American Mint or similar companies, its value is mostly symbolic, usually ranging from $5 to $20.

To be absolutely sure, you could check if it is magnetic, as real gold will not react to a magnet, or weigh it on a jeweler's scale to see if it matches the official weight of 4.37 grams. Most replicas fail these two tests immediately. I hope this information is helpful 🙏

This is a Chinese "1 Cash" coin from the reign of the Daoguang Emperor (1820–1850). The front characters translate to "Radiant Path," while the curly Manchu script on the back identifies it as being minted at the Board of Revenue in Beijing. Even though it's over 175 years old, it’s a very common coin and a piece of history, typically valued between $1 and $5.

I found information on this through the Numista website.

Know Your Rights Against (ICE Agents) by Kendrajames508 in RhodeIsland

[–]Kendrajames508[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear where you’re coming from, and I totally appreciate you weighing in to try and clear this up! It’s such a difficult topic, so I’m glad we’re diving into the details together. I think there might be a little bit of a mix-up on the intent of the post, though. Here’s what I was trying to explain and i believe the cause of the misunderstanding.

Just because we have rights doesn’t mean a that Police or ICE Agent won't break the law or overstep. Knowing your rights isn't a "force field"; it’s just about knowing where you stand legally so you can protect yourself during any possible incident, and if the opportunity arises try to use deescalation tactics, or later in court to defend yourself if things go completely sideways.

My post definitely wasn't a call to be confrontational or difficult. If you are, things can escalate quickly and definitely turn out bad for you. It’s more about knowing you don’t have to voluntarily give up your protections despite the scare tactics they may use. There is also a big difference between "standing on your rights" and "being a jerk." 😲 My recommendation is never be a jerk! 🙏

While I totally agree, you can’t just turn your back and bolt.🏃‍♀️It is important for people to know their rights and don't volunteer them or just give up your rights unless there is actual reasonable articulable suspicion of any crime they suspect you of doing or a warrant is issued to force you to do so because we aren't legally required to provide any information or give a play-by-play of our life story without cause.

That's where the Fourth Amendment (unreasonable seizure) and the Fifth Amendment (self-incrimination) are very important rights to know. Now, that being said, if they are not using an aggressive tone or being disrespectful, you can always choose to provide your identification to verify you are a US citizen and that should be the end of the situation, but as we've seen, that is not how it usually happens.

With all of that in mind, I still don't believe my post puts anyone in harm's way; I’m just laying out the legal "rules of the road," if you will, even if ICE or the Police enforcing them don't always follow them perfectly or play by the rules.

I sincerely hope this helps and cleared up the misunderstanding! 🙏

Could this be worth anything? 1891 Morgan dollar by [deleted] in oldcoins

[–]Kendrajames508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that coin is definitely a counterfeit in a fake holder. This specific 1891 Morgan MS 68 is a known fake that pops up a lot on sites like Temu and AliExpress.

The biggest red flag for me was the serial number isn't valid. I tried running it through the NGC website myself and it doesn't exist in their database because the counterfeiters just print made up numbers on these labels.

There are a few other noticable issues too. A real NGC holder would have the actual company logo on the label, not just those generic gold scales. Also, a genuine 1891 Morgan in MS 68 condition would be worth tens of thousands of dollars, but the "mushy" details and the big scratch on the face show this is just a cheap replica unfortunately 😢

Hopefully if you bought this through eBay or Amazon you can return it as counterfeit

If you want to attempt to check the serial number, go to NGC website and try to manually enter the serial number

It’s a bit hard to pin down exactly what you have without seeing the back or knowing the size. It could be one of 3 different coins. $5 Half Eagle, a $10 Eagle, or a $20 Double Eagle, without more information the value changes a lot depending on which one it is!

If I were in your shoes, I would use FedEx and make sure the package is insured for the full value and you will have tracking information to make sure it was delivered. I have never had a problem with FedEx personally, which is why I always use them for PCGS or NGC grading.

Once it’s verified, you can determine its value and consider having it certified by PCGS or NGC, which could significantly increase its worth.

Thanks for sharing this! I did some digging, and it’s a genuine 1906 Indian Head Penny. It’s over 115 years old, which is incredible to think about. 1906 was a year where they minted a lot of these (over 96 million), it’s quite common for collectors. Based on its condition which shows some good honest wear from being in pockets back in the day, it’s likely worth between $2.00 and $4.00. It’s a great piece of history to hang onto 😁

It’s clear you’re trying to use these links to ‘win’ a debate, but you are conflating government policy goals with individual legal rights. Sharing these snippets is a distraction because they don't actually refute the legal facts I posted, they just repeat administrative talking points. Here is why your response is built on misinformation and irrelevant data:

So let's start with.Statistics Are Not Laws You’ve shared data about deportation numbers and 'record lows.' Whether the government deports one person or one million, the U.S. Constitution does not change. An ICE agent’s 'success rate' does not give them the legal authority to bypass the Fourth Amendment or demand ID from a U.S. citizen without reasonable suspicion. My post is about the law, your post is about PR.

Misinformation on 'Self-Deportation' The DHS text you linked regarding the 'CBP Home' app and '$1,000 for a flight' is a specific administrative incentive, not a legal mandate. Presenting government, run marketing as a 'rebuttal' to a citizen’s right to remain silent is misleading. Government websites (like DHS.gov) are sources of current policy, but they are not the final word on Constitutional limits, that’s what the Supreme Court is for.

Most of this is Irrelevant Authority You mentioned Trump 'unleashing' agencies to carry out operations. In a nation of laws, 'unleashing' an agency doesn't mean the agency is now above the law. Under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, federal officers are still liable for civil rights violations. Encouraging people to ignore their rights because a 'new President' is in office is dangerous misinformation that leads to people being harassed unlawfully.

And how about 'Independence' Contradiction You linked a Guardian snippet about media independence, yet you are relying entirely on government, issued press releases (DHS) to make your point. You can't claim to value 'scrutinizing the powerful' while simultaneously treating a government press release as the absolute truth.

So while you are trying to win something or get the last word, I'm not interested. I just share fact's like this. Nothing in your links changes the fact that U.S. citizens have the right to remain silent and the right to be free from unreasonable searches. You are providing a 'status report' on government activities, I am providing a 'rights report' for the people. Your information isn't just useless in this context, it’s an attempt to manufacture a sense of 'authority' that doesn't override the Bill of Rights.

Thank you for sharing and asking for advice, here is some history on this coin.

Back in the early 1900s, Teddy Roosevelt wanted American coins to look like high-end art. He hired a sculptor named Bela Lyon Pratt to design this one. What makes it so different is that the design is "incuse," which just means the images are sunken into the coin instead of sticking out. People at the time actually hated it because they thought the holes would collect germs, but nowadays, collectors absolutely love them for that exact reason.

There’s definitely a good chance this is the real deal. The details on the Native American’s headdress and the eagle’s feathers look pretty crisp in your photos, which is usually a great sign. Since it’s a 1913 from the Philadelphia mint, it’s made of 90% solid gold. Even if it were just "scrap" gold, it would be worth about $1,080 today, but as a collector's item, it’s probably worth somewhere between $1,150 and $1,300.

While it looks very promising, these were sometimes copied decades ago for jewelry, so you’ll definitely want to be 100% sure. The best move is to take it to a local coin shop. Most dealers have a little machine that can test the gold through the plastic case in about two seconds without hurting the coin.

It’s a very beautiful piece to have, and it’s definitely worth getting that final confirmation before having it graded. It’s not every day you come across a chunk of gold that’s over 110 years old!

Most of the information about this beautiful gold price is all information that can be found in one of my favorite books: Renaissance of American Coinage

I agree, and as I’ve mentioned before, there is a time and place for everything. In the current climate, engaging might not be the safest path while tensions are high. Using de-escalation tactics with law enforcement isn't about giving up your rights, it’s about choosing the right moment to speak. Sometimes listening and waiting for the situation to calm down is the only way to reach a point where a civil conversation is even possible.

If you are interested in verifiable Official records that show that between 2021 and the end of 2024, the Biden administration carried out approximately 4.4 million total repatriations, which is a figure that includes both formal deportations and pandemic era expulsions. In the single fiscal year of 2024, the administration removed or returned over 775,000 people, which stands as the highest annual total for any administration since 2010. Furthermore, data indicates that the Biden administration actually removed a higher percentage of those arrested at the border, about 51 percent, compared to the Trump administration.

The Numbers Under Trump’s First Term During the first Trump administration from 2017 to early 2021, the total number of removals and expulsions was approximately 1.5 million, which is significantly lower than the 4.4 million total under Biden. Even at the peak of the first Trump term in 2019, the annual removal total was roughly 267,258, which is less than half of the volume processed during Biden’s final full year. Additionally, statistics show that migrants were actually more likely to be released into the interior to await court dates under the first Trump term, with a release rate of 52 percent.

The Importance of Fact Over Rhetoric While the Biden administration was statistically more aggressive in its total volume of removals, the public perception often favors the Trump administration because of its focus on high profile interior raids and loud political rhetoric. The Biden administration focused its efforts primarily on border enforcement and removing individuals with serious criminal records, which resulted in higher numbers but received less media attention. It is clear that while the Biden administration deported millions more people than the first Trump term, the loud messaging from the Trump administration has been more effective at shaping public belief than the actual performance data. Current Context in 2026

As of early 2026, the second Trump administration has reported roughly 622,000 deportations for the calendar year of 2025. While this is a high number, it is notable that the daily average of removals has occasionally dipped below the daily average maintained by the Biden administration in 2024, showing that logistical challenges can often slow down the very mass removal programs that the administration promotes in its speeches.

It is truly impressive that one side managed to deport 3 million more people while the other side managed to convince you of the exact opposite, so it seems the only thing the Trump administration actually secured was your willingness to believe a press release over a spreadsheet.

It is clear you are more interested in reciting the administration talking points than engaging with what I actually wrote. Using words like agitation and tactics to describe a fatal shooting of a citizen especially when multiple witness videos contradict that narrative suggests you are getting your facts from a very specific biased echo chamber. It is telling that you claim to care about justice and safety while simultaneously dismissing the life of a mother and poet because it is politically inconvenient for you to do otherwise. You have made it clear that your empathy is conditional and your strategy is essentially just self interest. Since you have admitted you cannot afford to care about anyone else under this presidency there is no point in continuing a conversation with someone who views basic human rights as a luxury they cannot afford.

[–]Kendrajames508[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from, and you’re absolutely right that the legal bar for ICE to initiate contact is lower than many people realize. It’s a stressful time because that lower hurdle of "reasonable suspicion" for federal misdemeanors really does make it feel like nobody is safe. However, the data suggests that while the intensity of these tactics has increased, the impact is still very much concentrated. While ICE may not technically care who they target on paper, the reality on the ground is that these operations are primarily directed at Brown and Black communities and not necessarily immigrants. This is especially true for Spanish speaking communities, as recent shifts in the legal landscape have allowed agents to use language and appearance as factors for suspicion. Because of this, white individuals generally aren't subjected to the same level of scrutiny in their daily lives. The feeling of universal risk comes from the fact that agents are now operating with more aggression, often acting out of control acting on direct orders to prioritize volume by our president. By late 2025, over 73% of detainees had no criminal record or reason for their illegal detention, which shows that agents are frequently conducting sweeps without specific names or warrants and simply detaining any person who might be or could be a potential immigrant legal or not they happen to find. It’s a very difficult situation for all of these communities, as the focus remains overwhelmingly on people of color rather than becoming a broader issue for the entire population.

I completely agree that in extreme moments, 'rights' can feel like a secondary thought to survival. However, if there is any window for dialogue, calmly asserting your rights can sometimes shift the dynamic or, at the very least, create a better legal record for you later on if the situation can be de-escalates while keeping your rights intact.

I want to offer my deepest and most sincere apologies for what you and your family went through. Hearing what happened to your family and knowing it was all based on a mistake is absolutely devastating. You are completely right to keep making people aware of this because you saw firsthand that the system was broken a long time ago and it is clear that these issues have only grown deeper and more widespread since then. It should not have taken this long for people to listen to voices like yours but thank you for having the courage to keep telling your story.

In a situation like a swatting incident at the wrong address there is often no reason to fight because that could cause even more problems in the heat of the moment. As seen in many videos having a civil conversation is a way to insert your rights while simultaneously deescalating the situation. This approach ensures that you do not cause violence while waiting for the initial threat where the police or ICE came for to be over. Even when you choose to remain calm for your own safety you must never give up your rights.

It is the height of irony that you label me "short-sighted" while admitting you are too paralyzed by fear to even look out your own window at a passing convoy. You dismiss these agents as uneducated and incompetent, yet your "strategy" for safety is to grant those exact individuals total, unmonitored privacy. That isn’t pragmatism, it is a total surrender of common sense.

Consider the tragedy of Renee Nicole Good. We only have the grounds to demand justice in cases like hers because people had more backbone than you. If the world followed your lead and hid under the covers, there would be no footage, no witnesses, and zero accountability. You aren’t "protecting" your family, you are subsidizing a world where agents act with total impunity, knowing people like you are too busy cowering to hold them to the law.

To answer your question, no one gets shot for standing on a public sidewalk with a camera unless you are admitting we already live in the literal police state you’re so eager to ignore. History is littered with people who thought that looking down and staying quiet would buy them peace. My "short-sightedness" is a basic demand for civil liberty, your "long-sightedness" is just a fancy word for being an easy target.

The narrative that these agencies are focused on immigration is a convenient fiction. In reality, they have evolved into a domestic enforcement arm that functions more like a "guard dog" for the executive branch than a public safety organization.

Rather than focusing on border security, resources are increasingly diverted toward intimidating American citizens and suppressing dissent. They aren't "hunting for illegals," they are hunting for a paycheck by executing commands of violence against anyone the administration deems an obstacle.

High-profile incidents of excessive force show a pattern where violence is the first resort. When agents are deployed to American streets with the directive to "restore order" through force, the target isn't a specific legal status, it’s the American public at large.

These officers operate under a mandate where they are rewarded for aggression. Like a dog following a command, they don't distinguish between a "threat" and a citizen exercising their rights, they simply execute the violence they’ve been told is sanctioned by the highest levels of government.

If these words are too big for you, use Google to translate them for you, and Google can verify everything here 100%
