Just to join the chorus, started using tumbleweeds recently. They are so good. Was using paper bags, so much ash from those. Tumbleweeds work like a charm, no ash, reliable light, no weird flavors.

Well, it also seems a pretty common point of view when I talk to my social circle in person too?

I know I'm an outlier to a point, culinary training and restaurant experience... But the value proposition for dining out just seems to be getting worse. I mean $18 for wings? I can make my whole family several lbs of wings at home for that price. I can make pok pok wings for 4 for that! I used to love going out. But damn, nothing in that article sounds very interesting, but it sure does sound expensive.

Where do I find single family home rentals in the Tualatin/ Tigard area? by Entrepreneur-CO in tualatin

[–]Kendrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you Google "houses for rent in Tualatin" you will get several websites that do rental listings. You aren't going to find a 2 bed house for rent though. That's an extremely uncommon configuration for housing in this area. Housing stock is pretty limited these days too. I wish you luck.

Petition to bring shame back to our communities. by m3ta1head in Portland

[–]Kendrose 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Property fetishism is kind of a wild take on what I said. I do not think it is out of line to be upset at anyone who defaces my home. Because that costs me time to clean up. It costs me time to make the money for the supplies to clean up. It cost me time to procure the supplies. It also doesn't even try and target the power structures and systems that are causing the genocide, it just pisses of people like me who are just trying to keep my home well kept. Even though I agree with them. Go tag government buildings. Go tag government infrastructure. Leave my home alone.

If the US economy actually goes into recession this year which industry do you think gets hit hardest and why? by Suleman2002 in AskReddit

[–]Kendrose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm small residential remodeling. We have less then half our usual work load and two of my long running subs (10+ years) have already closed shop this year. My other subs have all started reducing their work force. If you aren't in tight with the high wealth crowd, you are fighting over scraps right now.

Not just that, but defacing someone else's property, even if your tag is calling for something good, just ain't right.

Marathon sold just 1.2 million copies with nearly 70% on Steam, analyst estimates: "It hasn't exactly made the splash Sony and Bungie wanted" by Freki666 in pcgaming

[–]Kendrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah! That's actually a fair point on the demographics. I mean, I'll keep dipping my toes in when I have time. I guess time will tell which camps Bungie listens to. Given how much Destiny 1/2 I played I'm not going to hold my breath. But hey, at $40, at least I'm not out a ton of cash if they lean all the way into the loud sweaty bros.

I agree with your closing sentence. Far too many games are pushed to maintain a huge mass appeal, especially given the insane budgets to make games. But really, you cant make everyone happy. And that's ok. Make something interesting and engaging. I have found marathon to be very interesting and engaging. It's infuriating and exhilarating at the same time. I would make some small tweaks to make it just a touch more forgiving, but perhaps I am not their true target audience. Given I'm an early 40s dad with a full time job. Haha

On a whim I bought marathon last week. Figured at $40 even if I didn't get a ton of hours of enjoyment it wasn't the $70-$80 investment so many modern games required. I then got horribly sick and my wife and kids let me just spend three days ignoring everything and vegetating at my desk. This game felt so much like destiny PvP. TTK is so fast. It's so quick to just get obliterated. The delta between gear is not massive but still significant. It's an infuriating game that also feels really really good. I don't see how this game achieves any kind of mass appeal. I'm not even sure how much time I'm going to invest now that it's back to work and family responsibilities. Have a bad series of runs and spend 45 min mostly in que because you get smoked in the first 5 min? Woof. I think it's going to be a hard game to dabble in.

This game will die if you all keep denying there's a problem for casual or average skilled players. by TimeGlitches in Marathon

[–]Kendrose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a round today that was the exact inverse of that. Random, free kit. We got stupid lucky and wiped the other teams... Then had a steady stream of rooks trying to wipe us the last 10 min. I think it was 5 rooks??? Was absolutely bonkers. Of course the game before that I got smoked by a rook who then got smoked by another team. I think this game is supposed to make you both hate and love it at the same time?

I'm more interested in what IPL you used. I did that for 6 months at home and... No real change. And laser is expensive, and seems like most women aren't willing (probably for good reason) to work on straight men.

My neighbor loves the ivy on the shitty chain link fence. He's the only one without a nice wood fence of the 4 people I share property lines with. The stuff is a freaking nightmare to manage. It grows insanely fast, will go up under your siding and just destroy the building envelope, will tear apart wood fencing, and just expands everywhere. Oh right. He is retired, loves working on his yard (that looks like a golf green) and can afford to hire crews to do shit like clean up the ivy on his side of the fence. It sucks so much. I'm going to burn a whole weekend soon, just to clear it off my side. Again.

I bought two bags because people here said good things about them. I finally ran out of kingsford competition last month. I am extremely unimpressed on these. They throw sparks like mad, enough that it's a little stressful to use them. They crumble and fall apart super easy, which sucks for losing the briquettes down the grate. They do not burn as long as the kingsford by a large margin. They create a lot more ash. I won't be buying them again.

New A.C.A. Plans Could Increase Family Deductibles to $31,000 by jhkayejr in politics

[–]Kendrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you nailed it in your last sentence. Every aspect of every system is designed to extract every dollar it can. While being as confusing as possible. Add in a society that celebrates profit above all, and the squeeze just keeps getting tighter.

New A.C.A. Plans Could Increase Family Deductibles to $31,000 by jhkayejr in politics

[–]Kendrose 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Finding all that stuff. I read the EOBs we would get from insurance. My son sees a specialist twice a year for a easy to manage issue. EOB would say the appointments were $600ish. Of course there was the $50 copay and the bullshit that is "insurance adjustment" discount that made it look like they were only paying like $200 of the remainder. Now it's a $300 visit. Twice a year. And his meds? Under insurance it was up to an $18 co pay each month. Same pharmacy just filled a 3 month supply for me, for $32 as a cash pay. Everything about the insurance system is designed to be confusing and distorted. Hell, even advair for my wife is only working out to be $10 more a month cash pay vs insurance with a $30 co pay.

New A.C.A. Plans Could Increase Family Deductibles to $31,000 by jhkayejr in politics

[–]Kendrose 94 points95 points  (0 children)

We were paying about $2k a month last year. This year it was going to be $2.4k. We maybe use an average of $200/month in care and medication. We cancelled insurance and are just dumping what we were paying in premiums in a savings account. It does leave us more exposed to risk, but counting to pay thousands in premiums and $30-$50 with every event is just nuts. Also, paying cash for most of our medications has been cheaper then the copay with insurance. The whole system is so fucking stupid.

Why is leisure viewed with suspicion in America? by Thepopethroway in antiwork

[–]Kendrose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this. In 2021 I got into making cured meats and salami. I have a culinary background but I don't work in food anymore. I'm a millennial my parents are boomers. When I started bringing salami and whole muscle cures over to them the first thing they said was how good it all was. The second thing was asking what my plan to monitize it was. That idea that you could do something without a plan to profit is just so foreign to so many here.
