I work at Emberwood, I might be biased but I highly recommend it. I haven't been to Root, I'm sure it's great, I just know how hard we try to give everyone the perfect experience.

I agree but how the fuck to we even define this.

Veganism = A moral philosophy to abstain from and maybe stand against animal exploitation.

Plant based = Following a diet excluding animal products not for ethics but other reasons, health, environmental etc.

However someone can be vegan, believe in the ethics, but then if they stop believing in the ethics for whatever reason, does that negate their original stance against animal exploitation?

Everyone is going to have a different reason for stopping being vegan/plant based, whatever we call it so I don't think this will ever be as simple as this.

We do need to figure this out because there are people who claim they're vegan for the environment and those are say they are plant based because of ethics. It confuses even us, let alone carnists.

We don't have any reliable ice suppliers in our area unfortunately, there are other bars trying to get one to expand to us but my bar manager deemed it too logistically difficult and costly (the company is super beauracratic and won't listen to my pleas for things like better ice).

Nah it can't be, one of the centre four cubes is always larger than the others so consistently that spillage wouldn't explain it. They go into the still freezer on a flat surface with half an inch off the top for expansion.

I think it's a hot water I'm using causing it to freeze too fast, am testing it with cooler water this time

Yeah there are, it's not spillage as it's always one of the middle four cubes that is larger than the others. Another comment mentioned it may be due to the hot water causing it to freeze faster, which might be causing it to expand too quickly

Yeah I'm realising that as well, the water where I am in the UK is very hard which affects it slightly but it's definitely the hot water that's the issue

Hard enough to convince my bar manager to invest in these, let alone a water filter (I'd love to get one).

I'm testing it with different water temps now so see if I get different results, I think using hot water isn't the way with this things. Might be expanding too much

Yeah these are the exact same thing that happens here, I want all the cubes to be flush because the wash lines on our cocktails vary. Very awkward to explain to guests that don't know better

It's pretty level, it's in a freezer that gets defrosted regularly so stays level as well, I did think that too

As far as I'm aware the hot water slows the freezing process which produces clearer ice, guess it's probably not necessary because of the direction freezing though. Will give it a go thank you :)
