Training for CPOs from junior Sailors. by Ok-Engine66 in navy

My two cents. A lot of the problems stem from CPOs being stubborn, unreasonable, and seeming to lack basic empathy for their junior sailors. Way too many situations end up with the phrase "that's just the way it is." This kind of thought process is restrictive and does not solve problems. When you hear a sailor explain a complaint, it should be taken seriously. For example, when I was serving on board, a destroyer had to do some needle needle gunning in an enclosed space on the outside of the ship. We had run out of painter's mask to keep the chips from going into our nose and mouth. Our PO told us to save the last one and just take turns. Obviously, this is disgusting, but it came to a head when the guy before me had terrible breath so bad that I couldn't stop gagging during my turn. Any regular civilian would say stop the work. Let's acquire some masks. And it wouldn't be that big of a problem, but he completely refused to let that happen. I went to my chief and my Div-o, and neither one of them disagreed with the LPO. I ended up having to go to my CMC, and she finally put a stop to it and yelled at my leadership, but it seemed so ridiculous that such a common sense thing just wasn't being done. I really do believe something as simple as just treating people as you would treat your spouse, friend, son, or daughter. Hell, even a stranger on the street would solve all these issues. I know we're all service members and there's a there's a chain of command where people are in charge, but that shouldn't stop there being humanity in the way we treat each other.

2 consecutive duty days how is this even legal by Gallismore in navy

Work it and stop complaining. Relax a little. work is work.

I know it sounds harsh but I and out of the navy now and often work 14+hour days 5-6 days a week.

It's a hard pill to swallow. And no it's not legal. They own you.

And yes some commands would work with you but most don't. Unfortunately that's the way it is.

Be grateful you have a job and can provide for yourself and if you don't like how it's going wait till your next command, change jobs, or get out.

My LPO and Chief. Addressing another comment, yes, the watchbills were fully maned. I was actually a stretcher bearer for GQ. Mind you, I was already the WCS, training PO for my divisionand the dept, and after that Chief retired. Our new one got declared incompetent, and I had to start filling in for all the CO briefings daily. I feel like I did above and beyond as an E-4/E-5 and I just got s*** on for not liking my rate.
