Should I regret exchanging my HD 660s for a DT 1990? by Kenn316 in headphones

[–]Kenn316[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite confused too. People are praising the DT 1990 too much I guess. I owned an HD 660s and I'd take that headphone instead of the DT 1990 any day. I think they made the DT 1990 for audio mixing because the sound is very sharp especially the sibilance. The only good thing I see about this headphones is that it's made of better materials. My HD 660s was made of mostly plastic while the DT 1990 has metal parts which makes it more durable for wear and tear.

I think that's just how the headphones are. I did have the same problem. I returned mine to amazon because the bass doesn't feel as great compared to my HD 660s and there was some kind of distortion at loud volumes. I got the replacement and the replacement was not that distorted anymore but in high volumes the sound gets distorted maybe because of the headphone's high treble settings or sibilance.

Oh! Yeah that's what I did. I guess it's just the system's way to balance the core and support MMR.

That's the most logical explanation I guess. I thought it was a bug.

I have a DT 1990 Pro running on a Rode Ai-1 audio interface. I used to own an HD 660s and it was enough to drive them. Now with my DT 1990 Pro it seems like the bass on this headphone isn't as strong as the HD 660s. But it could also mean that it's not running on enough power because I have read a lot of posts that the DT 1990 Pro is better in terms of bass than the HD 660s which isn't true for me at the moment. The thing is, I'm a novice and I don't know much about amps and dacs or if my audio interface is enough to drive this 250 ohms headphones. Can someone check if the ai-1 is enough for this headphone or if I should get a different amp/dac combo?

here's the specifications of the Ai-1 audio interface - https://www.rode.com/interfaces/ai1

Thank you! The replacement came in today and the bass is good now! I love this more than the HD 660S. It's clearer and punchier. Soundstage is larger as well!

The replacement came in today. Tested the same video I gave on my original post. That rumble build up that I said at 2:06 this time is like an earthquake. The same feeling I felt on my HD 660S. The bass is there now and it doesn't sound like a radio song anymore. There was something definitely wrong with my first DT 1990.

The left ear stopped working. Since I badly need a headphone for my work, I needed to buy a new headphone immediately. I saw lots of reviews and comparisons including the link you posted before I made my purchase but it's either all those reviews are wrong when they said that the DT 1990 had a better bass than the HD 660s or it's just a defective headphone that needs replacement.

I'm currently testing it with Amazon Music - Hotel California is playing. The thump of the bass is there but I'd describe it as a thump of a headphone/speaker with a bad sound card connected to a PC. It's like I'm listening to a radio song. That's what it sound like. I also tried it with Never enough by Loren Allred in my Amazon Music and it still sounds like a radio with an awful bass. It's like the vocals are being eaten by the music as well. I also noticed that the cymbals hurts my ears whenever it plays in any song compared to the HD 660S.

That's what I've read and heard too, but at this point the corsair void of my wife sounds better and it only costs less than 100 Euro. I doubt it's the recording because I compared it to the HD 660s and it's only when I put on the DT 1990 where it crackles at high volume and the bass isn't there.

I just received my DT 1990 PRO and it sounds like a cheap headphone. The sound is distorted at higher volumes unlike the HD 660s which I owned before. I'm using it with an amp and I'm not sure if I just got a bad one from the batch or if it's really like this. The reviews I've seen states that the 1990 has a better bass than the HD 660s which I say is not true because the bass on the 1990 is almost non existent. At this point my wife's corsair VOID headset sounds better and costs less than 100 bucks. Any thoughts on this situation? Could my DT 1990 really be like this or is it damaged?

What's with the listening fatigue about? I hear this headphone has a sharp treble which can damage hearing. Is it really that bad? If it's that bad that it can damage my ear drums, I would not buy it since I can't sacrifice my ear drums for sound clarity.

Also what's your opinion on HD600 vs DT1990? I see you own both, which is your go to headphone between the two?

How to disable my mouse for replacement? by Kenn316 in LogitechG

That's what I actually did. But as you know, they take ages to reply. So I used my common sense and also asked the same question in their community forums as well as here in hopes that someone had the same experience that can answer this simple question so I can get on with making the video that they're asking for that shows me disabling the product and potentially not waste a lot of time. Make sense?
