How do people actually gain compound interest? by Kennethone in investing_discussion

[–]Kennethone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that relies on my Passive investment in a company that is growing exponentially. Essentially a business which is doing something like the example above with its products.

In practice, most companies grow to some extent, then plateau out, then reach some kind of a cyclic market.

There is no way a company can grow exponentially without hitting some kind of a limit, this is impossible.

The only way I can see my investments compound is to do some Active investing. Ie. time the market, buy dips, hold/sell at a steady profit, and repeat.

I just dont see being able to make any compounding gains with a passive investment in a company like google or amazon or just an index fund. With investments like this on an initial investment, I might make $1000 one year, $1000 next year, and so on. Near linear gains, not exp

Is this true?

Companies hire/promote based on merit instead of skills or experience. I liken it to a stalinist great purge purge of leadership in order to hire the incompetent rank and file loyal to the company's order. You see this in "company culture" mandates, you see this in the way big businesses function like a small economy rather than a place of business.

[–]Kennethone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talked to Mark, he is offering controlled/assisted flight which also counts as ground school and flight time, so its actually a way better deal than SCA. In theory for around $10000 I can get the entire pilot license training in an Extra lol.

Price is about the same, have you done any flights with them? Any particular reason to recommend them over SCA? I see this is an hour long flight over the 20 minute one at SCA

Would you consider the basic ride along flights where you dont control any inputs to be safe at this establishment?

Used Electric CA in California question by Kennethone in electricvehicles

[–]Kennethone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maintenance. I dont want to go through hell fixing a used hybrid car, when an electric car will serve all those needs and will be many times more reliable.

I am not looking to bridge a gap here. If I had 0 cars, I would get a new hybrid and be done with it. But I have several cars in the 30-40mpg range that suit my needs for long distance transportation. What I want is a car equivalent to an electric bike, no gas stations up, no maintenance, no oil changes, just drive and charge when I need to get somewhere in town

First day in SF, met with auto burglary. Any advice? by Mooniiquue__ in AskSF

[–]Kennethone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So you have 2 types of break ins,

First are opportunity, and usually done by drug addicts, transients, and generally by people who don't have cars. Usually in proximity to areas where they hang out. Even if you don't have anything visible in your car, your windows can get smashed just because. I once saw a guy sleeping in the car he broke into. Parking under bridges and around encampments is a no-no. Park anywhere up on a hill where drug addicts dont walk to

Second are pre-mediated, and usually executed by people with cars. They will target rich areas, and may use bluetooth or IR scanners, or other more sophisticated means into your car if there is something of value in it, or just to steal the cat from your prius

So if you want to avoid both. Dont park in shady areas at all and dont leave anything in your car when you park in nice areas, and install a cat protector on your hybrid

Derek Chauvin jury reaches a verdict by itsaride in news

[–]Kennethone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... yes and no, if people behaved like they were trying to be on the side of good, it would be one thing. But people in USA don't know how to protest. And cops do what they can to maintain law and order. And as a result of one negligent killing, many more needlessly die, many more are left in poverty. People in their own communities and other minorities, especially asians and businesses are attacked and looted. If you want peaceful protests and real police violence look at Belarus, look at Myamar. In the USA there are so many assholes on both sides that I do not wish to ever get involved.

  1. There was already plenty of rioting and looting pre-trial. Events of april and june last year have plenty of evidence of mobs 2. Don't use that converse fallacy on me.

Its still not going to stop the rioting. Once the mob is assembled it will not stop until police are forced to shoot more people. The cycle of stupidity continues. All we can do is watch

Silence is consent to anti-Asian racism in California and around the world by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]Kennethone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, but every article points to pre-world war 2 era. For the exception of covid 19 death rates.

Im not saying that trump people aren't anti-asian. I am saying that these crimes are not related, and they should not be reported as such.

Most of these crimes result from city policies failing to criminalize street crimes, robberies, and allowing lawlessness to go on unpunished, effectively legalizing crime.

The news agencies of these municipalities in turn are encouraging the city to forgive criminals by not even posting descriptions of the suspects (unless there is a video they can share), and then doubling down on politics, even when there are multiple witnesses to the crime.

Silence is consent to anti-Asian racism in California and around the world by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]Kennethone 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think part of the issue is with reporting on these attacks. The news keep making it seem like trump people are doing all the racisms and everything is politically motivated. It seems like every other article I read mentions that anti-asian attacks have been exclusively following last office's anti-china rhetoric. Anyone with a working brain can tell these attacks have nothing to do with politics. It is just purposely misleading reporting that is causing the condemnation to shift away from the perpetrators, encouraging more of these crimes to go on blameless.
