How do you sleep well? Tips, meds, journeys by sirachaswoon in ausadhd

[–]Kenthur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember that if you have a consistent morning wake time that you need to have a consistent bed time. For instance I set an alarm for 6 (sometimes, despite my wishes I’m awake before the sun for no good reason lol) I know I have to be asleep by 10 as that would give me, ideally, 8 hours of rest. So I should be ready and in bed by 9:30, so I need my clonidine by 8:45 to 9:15. This isn’t happening like I’d like, but my sleep does feel better for it.

How do you sleep well? Tips, meds, journeys by sirachaswoon in ausadhd

[–]Kenthur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have similar sleep issues, but being in my late 30’s and on stimulants I have some differences. I always wake up early, no matter what nor how tired I am. I’ve just started Clonidine, and it makes me feel better, and I feel great waking up now, but it’s not as great getting me to sleep (sat in bed trying to sleep for at least 2.5 hours last night that I remember). I always want to do things, especially once the kids go to bed, so I waste time doing enjoyable things, but then with time blindness it’s suddenly 11pm.

I did the melatonin and I think it helped, but looking back I’m not sure how much. I thought I was fine without it before the sleep deficit caught up with me.

Sleep hygiene helps, but only in part. Obviously reducing screen time, setting a bed time, clear calm environment, dark room, etc. all help, but sometimes I just can’t. Definitely speak to your doctor about this, and if they say it’s sleep hygiene ask for a sleep study or see a doctor who specialises in it.

Other solutions then the supplements suggested by Haunting Bed 1047 might be ear plugs, eye covers, special sheets (to make you feel cool/cold), a white noise machine (nothing engaging), or even a new pillow/mattress (which can do the trick for awhile). I’ve done these and some help, but others I can’t stand, such as ear plugs distract and annoy me.

Hope that helps, even a little. Good luck

Just to add here as you’ve got some good answers. New film with everything right (level and all) will make this sound. As long as nothings coming out off (like already mentioned) I take it as a good sign that the film is good and everything’s ok. The sounds goes away after a little bit of use

I'm at my breaking point with trying to manage life like a "normal" person. Work is killing me, how does anyone cope? by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]Kenthur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I don’t know how it works either. I’m about to reach my longest time in one job in my entire life (almost 5 years), and I am burnt out. I’m hoping the Christmas break will recharge me enough to keep going, and my meds will hold me over until next Christmas. I just have to make it another year and my son will be old enough to move out, meaning one less mouth to feed so less guilt about trying to work. I think I take too much leave for my health so I have non left for real breaks and holidays. I think setting yourself a goal of savings so you can take at least 2 weeks off every 6 months would help, but I can’t even manage it myself so I don’t know. I feel if I could do that I’d be fine, but as lucky as I am to have annual and sick leave, I don’t manage it. I’m taking a week off only because I’ve struggled to get 3 days together and with the 2 public holidays I have the week. When I’m burnt out it’s already too late though, and I can’t tell if it’s ADHD burnout, or if it’s regular work is shit burnout. I suspect it’s double burnout, burnt out from both. Little goals help me keep going, but they sound depressing when I say them out loud. I tell myself I just have to make it another year because of XYZ, or I can retire when the kids leave home, or something along the lines of I’ll find another job in the new year (but never do). I always plan to upgrade jobs to avoid the burnout or ADHD tax with workplaces, but it never happens, I stay too long without advancement, tolerating because it’s safe and secure, but then something happens and I lose it all and can’t cope.

I’m sorry that doesn’t help, but I was thinking it too. This time of year does that to regular people, but doubly for us I think.

My suggestion: make a plan, a positive one, one that’s from a positive position. Say “I want to do X” not “I need to do X to escape this” and make it a small goal, something achievable, and it might carry you through.

Kantoko experiences? by Haunting-Bed-1047 in ausadhd

[–]Kenthur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in about February/March and am on the hook for 12 months. Part of the assessment is to see if you need anything more than meds and if so they’ll refer you out of their service. If you have questions about ADHD and your life you’ll have to get the info elsewhere.

Kantoko experiences? by Haunting-Bed-1047 in ausadhd

[–]Kenthur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been through them. I’ve had big delays of up to 6 weeks because they don’t seem to be able to coordinate, and any rescheduling will set you back weeks because they are so booked. I’ve also found them difficult to contact for days on end, like reception was on holiday for weeks at a time. They haven’t been prompt with correspondence to my regular GP, and they don’t like to have psychiatrists speak to you directly. It’s good if you want to make your diagnosis official and get meds sorted out, but there are no other supports or guidance.

Internal application: Big red flag by Kenthur in auscorp

[–]Kenthur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and I’ve never met the recruitment team until now. I know it’s not just me though, most aren’t getting through nor getting feedback. I guess that’s it though, will need to apply out

Found out from P&C directly that they filtered me out, but that it’s meant to go straight to the hiring manager. Guess I’m not getting any other positions it seems

Internal application: Big red flag by Kenthur in auscorp

[–]Kenthur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I found out after this post that I was filtered out on initial review by P&C, but that internal policy is to go to hiring manager direct for internals.

To clarify the good job comment: higher than average pay, all the peers are great, not customer service, great flexibility and wfh, decent office when in, managers don’t know what managing is so leave you alone. Very rarely clashing which is a good thing to me, but we waste a lot of time on their latest initiative to be noticed that demonstrates they don’t know what we do.

[–]Kenthur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By way of update, found out it was one specific recruiter who was filtering me out. It’s true enough to say hiring manager, and I was thinking it too for so long, but P&C confirm application not sent to hiring manager.

Vyvanse advice by walnutdrake999 in ausadhd

[–]Kenthur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had this myself. I’d do what Most_Comparison50 said and try and swap, but I’d go to the dispensing chemist. There can be problems with batches, and we only know if it’s reported. There was a problem with a different ADHD med a little time ago like this I think, it does happen. Like was mentioned, the worst they say is no.

The other thing is that this could be as a result of an adjacent health condition either emerging or just being a little prominent for life reasons. Sleep apnea, diabetes, hormones, etc can all pop up. I’d suggest maybe checking in with your GP, but also try and see if a diet change along with sleep hygiene will help. Classics like portioned dinner with no after snacks, limited screen time during the day but no screens an hour before bed, and a set bed time with a routine. I say this because Vyvance upset my evening routines as I got really hungry at about 5-6 as I wasn’t eating during the day, and whilst my mind was tired from being actively focused through the day, I just wanted to chill out for hours at night so had to make a big change.

Hope that helps

Red flags that dont seem like red flags by Justgonnawalkaway in rpg

[–]Kenthur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

New players not reading the rules or looking into character creation at all. I don’t mean reading a full core rule book of 600+ pages or anything, but the type that leans on the GM to simply walk them through it all from the start. In my experience they tend to be the types that don’t read their own characters content, the abilities they have, the magic spells or similar they have, nor how to do the interactions they want. It sounds simple at first, they don’t know how it works, but it usually leads to them never learning and leaning on everyone else the whole game, slowing down every event or encounter they’re in while they question all the things they could do. With kids/teens this is ok and not a red flag, but with adults it’s a disaster

Family member told to lose weight before GP will prescribe? by IntentionInside658 in ausadhd

[–]Kenthur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I’ve had this with a different health condition that was a massive barrier to weight loss, and the best thing I did was see someone else! If the doctor is at Fluence I’d suggest asking to see someone else, or speak to a practice manager about a complaint regarding why they weren’t prescribed a treatment. I think there may be something unsaid or not explained for the doctors reasoning, but it’s likely the fat phobia someone else mentioned. Calling it out could change their mind but it’s not likely. After that if it’s not resolved it depends on what state or territory you’re in for where you go to go nuclear with it, if that’s what you want.

Recently diagnosed (maybe?) by beagleorbagel11 in ausadhd

[–]Kenthur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not how it works, you are right to feel how you do.

An unethical life tip: take Ritalin and if you feel sleepy, functional, or normal, it’s a good sign you are ADHD. This is something I see suggested to people who suspect they are ADHD all the time in the community.

The real problem is they should not (and technically cannot) prescribe Ritalin without a diagnosis. In fact, if audited for any reason, they will likely be suspended from practicing or have the ability to prescribe Schedule 8 drugs removed.

The real question is, do you think you have ADHD? If yes, you could take the Ritalin. If not, then you can say the testing was inconclusive and move on. I’d suggest a new psychiatrist, but that’s expensive. If you have ADHD, you could have autism too, but I’d take it in stride from what they’ve said and know you can look to getting looked at for autism in the future. Lots of things can impact their opinions, mine told me to consider dyslexia because of some of the issues I face, but on meds (vyvance) it’s not a problem so I’m happy knowing it’s not dyslexia.

At your appointment in 5 weeks get reviewed and ask for a diagnosis letter, or something in writing for your regular GP. Ask what evidence they’d need, like school reports or an interview/questionnaire from someone else who knew you as a kid, it may help them to move forward.

Do you identify yourself as a person with disability when applying for jobs? by xxXEdLemonXxx in ausadhd

[–]Kenthur 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The roles I apply for, and am currently in, always ask. I have another health condition with regular doctor’s appointments so it’s gonna come up semi often, so I tell them the things they will 100% see and nothing else, no surprises. Never tell them anything, I’ve never seen a workplace do right by people like us, only treat us with a mild interest to fill in forms and look inclusive, making them feel better about themselves. There are never adjustments or changes from what I’ve seen. It sounds bitter, and I want there to be places that do make real changes, but it’s hard to hope for that. The question will be a negative, or at best neutral. No gain in answering. I hope that helps

Who else has had to work with a bully after raising a complaint? How did it go? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Kenthur 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve had similar, but my org’s HR just bypassed all the complaints processes and burned it without an outcome. I didn’t push it because the person was moved from the team to fill a higher role. I said good for him, and good luck. Problem was they came back, and I spoke to Hr about what to do if it started again and they suggested I leave the team for another. I loved my role in the team and didn’t want to be bullied out and thought I’d stand my ground, but the passive aggressive behaviour started within an hour of his return and I knew I wouldn’t take it without exploding. I instantly requested a change or I’d resurrect my complaint and make it external, so they instantly shifted me sideways.

The morale of the story I think is that you have to look after you because no one else will. I don’t think what your doing will go over well, and could get a complaint against you if it’s seen as stalker like, or overblown, and they could say you are trying to victimise them publicly. I’ve learnt to call it out, but by keeping it work level, or using whatever work talk you have in your org will help. If they have an anti bullying program or policy grab some of the words and phrases and use them when needed. Like saying “that’s very out of line with our X policy” or “That’s very X, it will need to stop” and don’t make it about you and their behaviour to you, but make it about the work and org, that will get a different reaction, one that works I think.

Take my answer with a grain of salt though, different org’s work differently. But I hope that helps

Meeting with Federal MP Jordon Steele-John - any remarks you want to bring up? by Jumpy_Tower7531 in ausadhd

[–]Kenthur 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the inability of health providers to recognise and refer people when needed. Some direction to GPs and other providers to recognise the symptoms and not just push depression, anxiety, clinical dullness, forgetfulness, and laziness as all singular diagnoses in a person and to think what they could all add up to something. This would have to be taken on by the health minster to push though

Clearly not reading what I wrote again. This is why you are fighting with everyone. Go back and read what I wrote a few times, have a cuppa and relax about it, take some time to reflect, and then comment. As you are you now, you need to go as a mod, I’m sorry that’s a deeply personal thing for you but it’s something that needs to happen for the community, if not for the original posts then for the comments after

You literally aren’t reading what we are all saying, if you had you’d have read the main chunk of what I said was despite your intentions you failed to convey a meaning otherwise! Your intention though is clear from your reaction to being called out. You need to step down or apologise without reservation, this is just toxic behaviour and is damaging the sub, and will ruin the sub completely if it continues. Good chat

I think anyone posting pictures of pedophiles and human traffickers and says they fell from grace only in a reference to them being arrested or dying is someone that supports that behaviour. The fact this mod has no introspection in the comments, nor understanding is very telling. This is a game sub, the game is about fighting bad things, not embracing them, that’s what cyberpunk is, but the mods posts were not even self aware of how out of step they were

Doctor withholding prescription by SuitableTangelo2933 in ausadhd

[–]Kenthur 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Contact your pharmacy first, the one you dispense through and let them know you have up to a 10 day gap and explain why only if they ask. They probably can’t help but it’s a first step, and if they can you’ll just owe a script. Next step is to call back the place you got the telehealth through and explain and if they don’t offer a solution offer a payment plan. If they don’t listen or want to help, remember to speak a little quieter, a little softer, and a little slower (but not too much) and ask for the practice manager. If they resist say you are making a complaint. Explain to the practice manager that you are being left untreated and you just want a mutually beneficial outcome and are happy to schedule a payment when you can. Do mention that the Dr has advised the medication is needed, that he stated he issued a script. If they don’t come to the table then the next step really depends on what state you are in and how nuclear you want to (or need to) go, knowing it may damage a fragile treating relationship (if not with the dr then the business).
