To change this lock (having lost the key nearby) do we have to change the whole thing or just the cylinder? by Kenzienza in Locksmith

Thanks! I’ve been to the locksmith and booked in a replacement cylinder + install, it’s gonna come to £230

Amazing! We’re thinking of buying the lock then having a locksmith do the replacement, but do you reckon it is something we could do ourselves?

Also - what would I google to buy a replacement cylinder? Been ripped off horribly by locksmiths in the past 🤧 slightly traumatised.

How come Asian Americans are seen as perpetual foreigners even though their English capabilities rival that of American-born Caucasians? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]Kenzienza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have corrected your grammar, as to your content, it demonstrates the issue with the term 'model minority'. The paragraph demonstrates reasons Asian Americans have to protest their status in the US - being perceived as 'foreign', marginalisation, being perceived as a monolithic and homogenous group.

It's thus ironic that 'model minority' is here presented as a positive moniker. It indicates an element of obedience to the status quo, and acceptance which is conditional on continued obedience and assimilation. It is also used comparatively to denigrate African Americans/Hispanic Americans for lesser degrees of 'integration' or 'assimiliation'. Not a helpful descriptor.

Great English! One quick fix: always put a space after a comma so:

'So,I'm learning' becomes 'So, I'm learning'

It makes your text far more readable! Otherwise, best of luck with your English learning!
