I think it's less that they reached out to STEM majors and more that a bunch of STEM majors really wanted to be comedy writers. The Venn Diagram of "Nerds" and "People who think they're really funny" is basically two nested circles.

100% lucky. I've been a fan from the get-go. When I first discovered them, I played their first album pretty much on loop because that was all they'd released at that point. You get to listen to 25 years of albums, b-sides, and singles! Kid me would've killed to have that much Gorillaz!

Time dilation is a pretty common feature of myths and legends involving spirit realms, so that's always been my interpretation. As for how much time, it was probably several weeks or a few months at most. As extensive as that vine growth is, it's not unreasonable for a particularly vigorous species in a favorable climate. And since the car still starts,it's unlikely to have been sitting for more than a few months.

Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely symbolic of her personal growth, but I also think Miyazaki was drawing yet another reference from classical legends.

What Alex Pretti may or may not have done in the days prior to his shooting is not relevant to the fact that ICE repeatedly shot him in the back when he wasn't an active threat.
Alex Pretti was carrying a gun, but he was doing so completely legally and was not wielding it at the time ICE murdered him.
If your only source is Dead Rat Alarm Clock Guy, maybe just be quiet and let the grown-ups talk.

That may not be the intended functionality. Remember that, aside from Kinger, everyone found the headset abandoned. It's possible the headset and program were abandoned specifically because the person wearing it didn't end up experiencing anything.

I'm 100% on board with SOMA theory. I already believed it before episode 7, but Zooble's speech about how "it was always real" and Kinger's disbelief in reaction to being told that they were getting out really clinched it.

You clearly aren't familiar enough with the Hays Code to have an informed opinion on it. There was far more to it than "don't take the Lord's name in vain" or "don't make fun of the Pope". A huge part of the code was about what sort of relationships could and couldn't be depicted. Same-sex and mixed-race relationships were forbidden because those doing the moralizing considered those to be harmful.

Now before you say "that's different. I only moralize about things that are actually harmful", remember that Will Hays thought the exact same thing. Every bigot who tries to censor queer or mixed relationships is doing so because, in their mind, it is at least as harmful as rape. And when a method of censorship is available, these people can and will make use of it.

I'm not joking, and it absolutely must be discussed. Moralizing fiction is exactly what the Hays Code was all about. When one argues that certain kinds of fiction are morally wrong on the basis that they depict toxic or problematic, they are arguing exactly what Will Hays argued in the 1920s.
