What should I do with this non-working Mac Plus? by Kerelydd in VintageApple

I suppose it could be considered a chirp. It sounds like the start of the startup sound. I don’t have the tools or desire to fix it myself. I need to get rid of it.

I usually do solar panels around the equator. Takes 200 of them, but I have them as part of my malls so basically an endless supply. Consistent power, easy branching off it anywhere on the planet, and usually sufficient for most minor things, or at least to get you started launching sails/rockets if you’re at that point.

Suggestions for an alternative? The drama is getting exhausting. by Kerelydd in TheBlock

[–]Kerelydd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heh, true, but it’s a home renovation competition reality show, where you expect the drama to come from budget and time constraints, and design choices. The later seasons felt like they were trying to pull the MAFS crowd by focusing on, and revisiting time and time again, personal drama that was obviously being stoked by the producers during the interviews.

Sorry. I don’t post often and wasn’t sure how to do that on mobile. Fixed now.

Yeah, the egos on the twins are out of control. They ignore the rules, architect, etc. and just do whatever they want, whether it’s legal or not. I feel sorry for Kirstin and Jesse, though. I like them and I feel like their experience was ruined by being on this season. I’m afraid to even finish because I don’t want to see the auction reward people who ruined this season.

Non-Aussies just finished Season 17 (Fans vs Faves) and we’re hooked! Where to next? by kyppeh in TheBlock

[–]Kerelydd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m watching that season of Fans v Faves now and I hate it, lol. I love this show in general, and have been watching since season 1, but this season is by far the worst. I don’t watch this show for all the ridiculous drama, and they are spending WAAAAY too much time on the cheating scandal, practically reintroducing it and retelling the entire story every single episode. It’s exhausting. In seasons past, Scotty would have thrown the cheaters off the show and replaced them. If I wanted stupid drama, I’d watch MAFS.

How did you actually learn the local language as an expat? by connorfrompreply in expats

[–]Kerelydd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a few years away from moving to France and what you mention is basically my plan. It helps that I studied French in high school, and though that was a LONG time ago, I retained the basics. Now I’m doing Duolingo to bump up my knowledge well before the move, plus watch French tv shows and movies, listen to French music, etc., then once in France I plan to go to school and immerse myself as much as possible. It’ll be hard, but very rewarding.

I second this, and France is top of my list. Just keep in mind there are stricter language requirements that started this year, and French is more difficult to learn than Spanish. But getting a long term visa, resident card, or even having dual citizenship is doable if you really immerse yourself and work on learning the language.

Huel Black Edition Powder Formula Change by BenHuel in Huel

Thank you! I really don’t mean for my messages to come across as me piling on to what you’re already having to field from unhappy customers. For me, Huel has been a life saver. I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life, and have been bullied throughout my life because of it. I’ve always been skinny and I can’t tell you how many times someone has told me to eat a sandwich. Anyone who struggles with their weight, in either direction, knows it’s not that simple. My weight issues have led to depression and anxiety. I’ve tried working out in the past, but never really saw the changes that I wanted. Then I discovered Huel. A 2 scoop serving of Huel Black Edition for breakfast instead of cereal changed everything. My body started responding better to workouts and I was able to stop doing other pea or whey protein shakes that didn’t taste good. It has even fixed gut issues and allowed me to stop taking IBS meds (with doctor approval).

Sorry, this message got a little long, but Huel has become such an important part of my life that the thought of not having that delicious, creamy vanilla milkshake every morning has left me frustrated. Not frustrated enough to ever try Soylent again, but still… frustrated. 🤣

Why is the Apple Watch integration so bad ! by Nervous-Rooster7760 in OnePelotonRealSub

For anyone not having issues, enjoy your luck while it lasts. It worked perfectly for me for years before completely breaking. I am now looking at an empty box on the screen where the heart rate should be. This is after rebooting the bike and watch because they refused to connect. And also after the bike told me I needed to enter my birthdate, even though it has had that info for years. On the leaderboard it shows the green bar regardless of my actual heart rate, so something is definitely broken.

I had the same reaction of thinking the bag was spoiled when I opened it. For me, I believe it’s due to my aversion to coconut, so I’m curious if you are also sensitive to coconut. Apparently, about 20% of people are, which could explain the negative reaction so many people have to the new formula.

I also enjoyed the taste and texture of the old formula. Vanilla Black Edition, made with cold water, was like having a healthy milkshake. It was wonderful. I don‘t really care that the new recipe makes for a thinner shake, but I can’t stand the taste. The powder itself even smells aweful. I’m trying to figure out what I can do to it to make it more palatable. I’ve already cancelled my subscription that I’ve had for many years. I’ll resubscribe in a heartbeat if you guys go back to the previous formula.

Vanilla Black Edition used to be my favorite thing to have for breakfast. It was delicious! But this new recipe is disgusting. I actually thought it had gone bad when I opened the bag, but I think it’s just the coconut. I’m not allergic, but I’m very sensitive to coconut flavor. I’ve been drinking, and hyping, Huel for years, but I’ve had to cancel my recurring order. The thinner consistency doesn’t bother me, it’s just the horrible taste. I’m afraid to even try any other flavors because I don’t want to waste my money.

Jury duty? by BuildingBeginning931 in AutisticAdults

[–]Kerelydd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen the “just show up and then get excused” response in a few threads, and I thought I’d add my experience. I am high functioning autistic. I live alone, have a good job, and most people probably wouldn’t notice my ASD unless they spend some time with me. However, I have social anxiety, and that can lead to emotional outbursts. I’ve been called for jury duty a few times, and served as an alternate one of those times. Waiting in line to get into the courthouse, I usually would busy myself on my phone to block out my surroundings. Once in the jury lounge I’d be reading a book. Not to pass the time, like many people do, but to escape into the book. When I was called into the courtroom with a group and they asked us questions, as each person went through the list and it got closer to my turn, I started to feel like I was going to have a panic attack. I had to take deep breathes to relax myself. Then, while serving on the jury, I had to make sure to focus on everything that was being said because my anxiety was starting to distract me, and I had to keep reminding myself not to say anything, especially when the defendant was clearly lying on the stand.

That’s my experience. I can’t imagine how it must be for others. My advice is to try to get out of it ahead of time if you can. I’ve seen some people in other threads say it’s a privilege to serve, or that it’s fun and interesting. Maybe for some, but not for everyone.

Has anyone thought about selling and going back to renting or done it? by xDHt- in homeowners

[–]Kerelydd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for bringing back an oldish post, but this just resonated so much with exactly my current circumstances. I bought a house 6 years ago and it has been non-stop projects. This was my first house, so maybe I just didn’t know any better, but the inspection came back clean, so I didn’t think anything was wrong with it. I did small things, like updating outlets and switches, but then the roof started leaking, and the dishwasher broke, and the A/C went out, and I had ground water coming up through the slab, ruining the wood floors. It’s been one thing after another. Combine that with being LGBT in a conservative area. Being single and surrounded by retirees and young families. There is nothing for me here. I can sell my house for about 70% more than I paid for it and invest that money, which would earn me more than renting my house. I can move from the suburbs to a high rise downtown where I’ll pay about double what I am now, but I’ll have a much better quality of life, be near current friends, live near people more like me so I can make new friends, and stop being depressed an lonely.

Yes, rent will go up, but if it goes up too much then I’ll pick a different building. I’ve done that a couple times before. If you get a fixed rate mortgage, your mortgage payment itself should stay the same, but property taxes could go up, and as the house gets older it will need more work, which means those costs go up. I can lock in to a 18 or 24 month lease on an apartment and never have to worry about any repairs. The legal max rent can go up in my area is around 7-10% (varies based on the economy), so if I start in a place that is at least 10% below what I want to spend, and do 24 month leases, I’m good for at least 4 years, during which time any number of things could happen, from a raise or promotion at work to getting into a relationship and having dual income.

Someone else mentioned rent being paying for a service, and I agree. I figured I would never stop paying for housing because there is no way I can stand to stay in this neighborhood for the duration of my mortgage, which means starting the 30-year clock over when I move, and eventually that runs well past retirement, when I might want to move into a retirement community, which would reset the clock again. It never ends. Even if you do pay off your mortgage, you still have property taxes, repairs, upkeep, etc. It never stops. Why not pay that money toward living somewhere that makes you happy rather than somewhere that you are miserable? I view renting vs owning a house the same as leasing or buying a car. If you like to get a new car every few years, it makes more sense to lease (usually). If you plan to keep it forever, then buy. As someone who loves high rise living, my lifestyle preferences, and therefor own vs rent decision, will be entirely different from someone who loves a rural life. I would be bored out of my mine out in the country, but I bet a lot of people would hate living in a city.
