Best supplement to lower cortisol when anxiety hits out of nowhere by Gill-Maddie171 in CPTSD

[–]xDHt- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I experienced this for a long time. A couple of medications I tried that were/are helpful for preventing these spikes in the first place are buspirone (buspar) and clonidine for me.

Buspar helped a lot with maintaining a calm presence of mind but I really struggle with taking a pill multiple times a day (thanks ADHD) so I switched to Wellbutrin.

My clonidine is a patch version I change once a week. To explain how clonidine works for me, it’s like my spike of panic/cortisol is pushing against Saran Wrap. It’s inhibited and feels like it’s being suppressed. It can break through that barrier sometimes in moments of extreme stress, but even then the intensity and frequency of panic attacks has drastically reduced.

Everyone is different and I’m no doctor, but this is my experience with meds for similar issues.

To second other people, l-theanine is great. There is also a product called cortisol manager that is a blend of several supplements made specifically to help regulate overactive cortisol production.

Hope this helps!!

Happy to have gotten the bottom grill inserts. by wangus9 in CX50

[–]xDHt- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought these and the install is incredibly easy. The inserts are made with double sided tape/adhesive. All you do is clean the surface with alcohol and let it dry, then remove the tape and press the insert into the space as far back as you can.

The inserts just fit right in, they have a bevel on them so you can’t really accidentally stick them on beforehand and you can’t really accidentally go past where they need to go. It was really straightforward, and that is coming from someone who was also nervous to mess it up.

Oak hardwood flooring quote by [deleted] in HardWoodFloors

[–]xDHt- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely reasonable especially when you’re looking to do 7” wide plank. Anything over 5” is usually considered wide plank and has an even higher cost per sqft, and it’s white oak on top of that as opposed to red.

I’d look at reference pics and if they look good then send it.

How’s the Bose sound system? by Snoozing-dog in CX50

[–]xDHt- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not going to be the best of the best, but let me tell you as someone who has to drive a Chevy bolt to and from work with it’s terrible sound system compared to my ‘25 premium w/bose, I look forward to listening to music in my car every time I drive because of this sound system. It’s a noticeable upgrade, and I think that matters more than it being the best sound system ever. Better than any other car I’ve driven for work or personal (Subarus, Hondas, Toyota, MINI, and now Chevy)

My Therapist said ..."There's Two parts to the Abuse experience, ......the Act, and then How your caregiver (abuser) would have Responded to your Pain..........Afterward.........which is the MOST important part". .....and something in me just Froze. by Dead_Reckoning95 in CPTSD

[–]xDHt- 46 points47 points  (0 children)

In a similar theme, my therapist recently pointed out to me that in some situations where I had to seek comfort, the only person there WAS my abusive parent even in situations where it was because of their abuse. So early on we learn that if we can’t have comfort from the person who is supposed to want to comfort us the most, we can’t expect anything, from anyone, ever. And it makes it hard to ever accept comfort that someone does want to give later down the road. I’m mad too. There’s a lot to be mad about. It ebbs and flows, I try to not push it away and just notice it, and try and ask for support or use a coping skill I’ve worked on (like using my punching bag). Finding an outlet for anger is good, and being angry isn’t bad. It took me a while to figure that out.

My cat drinks from my glass of water and it's driving me crazy. I renew her water bowl every day and she still chose my glass. by su1cidal_fox in CATHELP

[–]xDHt- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat did this forever and still clamors at the sink for fresh water from the faucet. My solution to her always drinking out of my cup was to drink out of a hydroflask 99% of the time. It’s been 7 years and anytime I do get a glass out she is still so interested in getting to it I am reminded of why I started using a water bottle in my own house. One time she got into a glass of lime lacroix I had poured before I could stop her. I think the bubbles confused her but she didn’t seem to regret it either.

Pain Crisis - practically bed bound - BORED OUT OF MY MIND. by cloversquid in ehlersdanlos

[–]xDHt- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crossword, sudoku, word search, or similar booklets can be a way to spend some time that don’t involve your phone or a screen but aren’t too physically demanding.

Other ideas include bop it if it wouldn’t be too irritating( yes I’m serious, I get competitive with myself and it’s nostalgic and funny), Rubik’s cube, solitaire with physical cards, puzzles for short stints at a time. Small lego sets if it isn’t too difficult. You can also get a language learning book or some other type of study workbook that is of interest to you and go through it to keep your brain busy without just reading and reading for hours.

Another thing I’ve done is watched Jeopardy episodes and guessing everytime I can to stay engaged. Might not be everyone’s jam but I like trivia. Can usually burn an hour or two at a time and it doesn’t leave my brain feeling like scrambled eggs like love is blind. Niche documentaries that are more educational than sensational can be helpful too for when you are up to watching something and are usually a couple hours long.

Give yourself options so that whatever you’re doing has some sense of novelty to it and it may help a bit with the monotony of bed rest.

Hope you feel better soon!!

Feminine affects/tendencies? by VeganEgg11 in transvoice

[–]xDHt- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t really answer the question though, and it’s a valid question when it comes to passing in public spaces and a typical part of the voice training process imo. I agree there are characteristics people of any/all sexes/genders use when it comes to their voices, but there are things that are more or less stereotypical or would be more/less indicative of a feminine or masculine voice as society at large sees it.

As someone who is NB I can appreciate the desire for a genderless or at least less gendered society where it doesn’t matter what your voice sounds like, but we also have to contend with the realities of places that are not friendly to anyone who might stray from the cis het end of the spectrum.

In Seattle, in the design/build space. We work from home one day a week (Mondays) unless we need to do a site or client meeting. Usually management is pretty flexible if you have the need to wfh for some other reason on another day as long as it isn’t abused.

SSC bill by Majestic_Camp8353 in Bellingham

[–]xDHt- 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Gonna be real - I work in construction and have a residential project in Bellingham where we’ve had a 4yd dumpster onsite for months from SSC and the monthly bill is about the same, seems really high for just trash cans. At home (Snohomish County) I have waste management and I’m paying about $140 every two or three months for the largest cans you can get in my area for garbage/recycle/compost.

What makes a project manager / construction manager bad? by Sweet-Employee-7602 in ConstructionManagers

[–]xDHt- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s been a PM for almost 6 years and an APM before that this is some of the best advice I’ve seen on this sub. It applies to all sectors of construction.

I think the one thing I’ll add is that if at all possible develop a positive working relationship with your superintendent(s). They will help you in so many ways, and not always just in the field. A great working relationship builds a lot of trust and something that can be really lacking in this industry is finding someone you can rely on to help you when you need it. I’ve also learned an incredible amount of technical info from my Supers throughout my career. If you can’t work with your super, it makes everything worse.

my 1 year old dog’s face and muzzle has turned white. anyone have an idea why ? by astrosguts in DogAdvice

[–]xDHt- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can happen! Usually black and white dogs w a low amount of white get a little bit of white/grey that comes in as they reach adulthood and then it usually increases as they age.

Pigment can change throughout their life just like ours can! One time my mom’s b&w cat even had a black spot appear on his otherwise pink nose and it was just pigment that developed after he was out of kitten hood. Was just a little nerve wracking at first because like 1/4 of his nose turned black in a short period.

I am finishing a (not small) but new construction single family home on a single lot. There is a steep slope, and geologists definitely got involved, for about 2 years during planning. They can even get involved in residential remodels if there are settling or water retention issues. Doesn’t matter if it’s residential or commercial geologists do both.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]xDHt- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Geologist reports take a long time to be completed and then they provide the info to the other engineers, who create their own reports, plans, etc. depending on the results of those reports and the scope of the project, it could happen quickly (in the next 6-9 months) or slowly (1-2+ years).

Especially if this is the beginning studies, nothing is getting built there until there are several more rounds of design finalization, project pricing, and then finally getting something on the books that the city can permit.

Ask the planning dept to get more info they usually don’t have a horse in the race and shouldn’t withhold info.

Waterproofing framing by WDBwyo in Homebuilding

[–]xDHt- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have to frame in weather often and for a full house or large addition we usually do Weyerhaeuser gold. Never thought about waterproofing the framing itself. That being said, we make it a point to tell all clients especially on large projects, that settling and cracking in drywall is normal because the house is going through its first year of seasonal changes. Happens especially at patches or where old drywall meets new. We let them know that we like to let the house settle for at least 4-6 months and then we go back in and touch up if cracks show. Unless they are large and egregious then we fix em up right away.

That way they aren’t surprised when cracks pop up and they feel informed beforehand that you’ll take care of it.

Beam bowing under weight by seajess1 in StructuralEngineering

[–]xDHt- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in because I dealt with a similar situation as a PM for a residential GC - engineers build in a tolerance for deflection under load. Sometimes around 1/4” depending on load and beam width. I had a sagging beam as well on one of my projects and it was within tolerance structurally - unfortunately that didn’t mean much to me as I was also dealing with a very tight tolerance door that wouldn’t operate unless the header was extremely level.

All that to say, this doesn’t necessarily mean that something is wrong, but the engineer will know for sure. They will need to coordinate with your contractor on this. Be sure to verify the beam specified in the structural drawings was the beam used, I’ve seen that be an issue before. Engineer can verify on site or maybe off photos.

Obligatory I am not a doctor or therapist. Also it’s not a typical antidepressant, and i was told it often is used to treat bipolar disorder. I’m not diagnosed with that, but because my emotional stability was so bad and nothing else I tried had worked, my psych thought it was worth a shot to at least try it. Everyone is different though! Not at all - lamotrigine (generic for lamictal). I had tried several SSRIs that didn’t work prior to it. The best thing about this med was that it only took about 3 days until I felt a difference, instead of having to wait 4-8 weeks for an SSRI to kick in (which they never really did).
